What started out as a humiliating day only got worse. He picked a corner to use as a bathroom. This time, he had to squat to leave a significant sized bowel movement. By it's consistency he could tell that his body accepted the dry dog food Ashley had been feeding him.
The bugs in the area were horrendous. The uneaten scraps of his breakfast attracted the first of the pests. Flies would land on him and he would shiver and shake his body to get rid of them, but they would return just to taunt him. The chains keeping his arms within a confined radius of his body would not allow him to reach much of his side or back torso. The round, ball shaped stainless steel mitts proved to be useless as fly swatters.
He had to recognize that at least Valerie and her husband had provided comfortable accommodations for their dogs. The shade from the trees kept the ground a comfortable temperature throughout the day. The cages were big enough to pace in. The house Valerie lived in was not visible due to the bushes and foliage growing so liberally in the area. There always seemed to be enough water which John could drink through the tube in the ball gag by sucking it up like a straw.
The day passed slowly. Then he heard human speech coming up the pathway. Two voices. Valerie had mentioned a visitor coming.
John sat unmoving, watching the pathway to see who it was. Maybe it was Ashley to take him home...
No. Someone else. He didn't know her.
Valerie had redressed into a summer outfit. Spotless white shorts and a wrinkle free white shirt. She wore a white cap over her auburn hair. The Hollywood sunglasses gave her a theatrical flare. Missing from this morning's feeding, the industrial sized wedding ring once again encumbered Valerie's left ring finger.
As he was apt to do, he checked out the new comer to his embarrassing predicament. The woman just wore jeans and a white T-shirt. A working class outfit in comparison to Valerie. The T-shirt had a logo printed just above her left, small breast but he could not read it. She had the body of a young woman apt to gain weight with each consecutive year. Her short fingernails indicated she was a hands-on type girl, the kind of person to do things that others might pay to have done.
The blonde haired girl looked through the cages in passing with a smile. Then she got to him. She looked in nervously at John, her smile taking on a fake, forced grin. He could make out the logo on her breast now. It read: "McKinley Animal Clinic."
Oh, shit...what has Valerie done now?
"Mrs. Hagen," the girl said turning to Valerie, "I don't know about this."
Valerie looked in at John and then escorted the girl away from the cage by her elbow. He could still make out some of the words they were quietly saying. He could here Valerie addressing the girl as a Doctor Russell.
"I could loose my license to practice veterinary medicine."
"You're taking this far to seriously. Remember though who got you that grant so that you could get through school?"
Then John heard something about how much business the Hagen family has brought the McKinley Animal Clinic. Not to mention the large donations to the animal shelter.
The two women would glance over their shoulder occasionally at John. Valerie stepped in front of the blonde and began to use her fingers as power points to get her message across. The girl bobbed her head up and down in understanding.
They finally turned back to the dogs. In what must be a ritual of sorts, or possibly it was merely based on seniority, they started with the first cage on the other side of the path. He being the least senior dog there, he would be last...again.
Dr. Russell scratched the dogs and made friends with them first before she began administering the vaccination. She smiled and giggled at the dogs like a true animal lover.
Valerie unlocked the padlock to his cage. Dr. Russell stepped in. Valerie patted her on the back and said, "It's okay, he's a dog."
Dr. Russell closed her blue eyes and took a quick, labored breath. John surmised that Dr. Russell was not only opposed to administering veterinarian medicine to a human, but the look and feel of this BDSM scene was out of her league. She did not appear to want to become part of such sexual deviancy.
She turned and walked out. "I won't do it. I can't"
"Then you are fired."
"What? You can't fire me for this."
