On Earth and in Earth's universe, there are no real demons, only tales of them. There are no angels or gods. There are beings that exist in the unseen spaces of reality but those forces are all but completely unknown to Earth's many denizens. However, in the Aetherlands, demons are as real as man or beast. They yearn for power and crave obscenities of all kinds. One Such demon was known as Apokrafix. While ruling his domain Apokrafix was killed in battle and simultaneously summoned to Earth through a very old grimoire spell found by a very unlikely spellcaster named Lewis Smith. Lewis was a middle aged man living in a low cost apartment working a nine to five job filling forms and hating his life. Lewis was often overlooked and mistreated at work and this led him to spend all his money on his last ditch effort to gain any power. He purchased an old book that he hunted down in a hole in the wall pawn shop in the worst neighborhood owned by a mean old man. He took the book home, carefully read it and translated the Latin words via search engine translating tools. After a few days of practicing his pronunciations, he lit some candles, reached out into the aether and pulled in a demon using his body as a vessel.
Apokrafix entered his body all at once. One moment in the heat of battle against a would be hero and the next standing in a dark candle lit room in the body of a magicless man named Lewis. After an agonizing few moments for Lewis, the two minds were able to communicate. Lewis explained the reason for his summoning, Apokrafix told him he'd give him power beyond the limits of his mortal mind but in return he'd have to let him harness his body fully. Lewis agreed under one condition, he wanted to fuck all the mean women in his office that looked down on him or mistreated him. Apokrafix bellowed a laugh at the man's simple desire and agreed. Once Apokrafix was looking at the list of names that Lewis had written down, he knew he'd have a long way to go.
"So you're telling me, all I need to do is repeat 'Power Word Control' and that will make any person obey any command I give them?" Lewis looked at himself in the mirror, talking to Apokrafix in his own mind.
'Yes, and you do not need to talk out loud for me to hear you.' Apokrafix grumbled in Lewis' head in response.
"Yeah, but it seems pretty weird to just think a thought to you." Lewis tried to explain while still staring at himself. When Lewis looked in the mirror now, he didn't see his own reflection, he now saw a shadowy figure, a demon. Apokrafix made a noise that sounded like a hand hitting a forehead. "What are the full rules of the spell, do I need to be around the person? Or can I just call them?"
'What do you mean, call? Is the person here in your shitty apartment?' Apokrafix didn't know what a cell phone was but somehow knew his apartment was shit? Lewis sighed.
"No, no," Lewis pulled out his cell phone and unlocked the screen. The screen was bright amidst the dim lit living room and made Lewis and Apokrafix flinch.
'Stop that dastardly light, it is hurting us!' Apokrafix shouted inwardly.
"No, it's just bright, sorry hold on." Lewis turned down the brightness of his smart phone and started tapping apps on the screen. "See, this is a cell phone. I can call or send a message to another person's cell phone and they will hear me or see my message and maybe respond." Lewis thought about all the women who never returned his call or texts in the past and sighed again.
'No, you must be by the person and they must be able to hear you. The spell will wear off in 24-hours time. When the spell has ended the person you've cast the spell onto will know you've manipulated them against their will and likely want to harm you. This spell is very invasive to the mind. I would caution you before using the spell. Make sure to think about who you use the spell on and when. If your body dies before I can fully seize control, we both will die.' Lewis listened and took mental note, although he was sure he wouldn't need to remember, Apokrafix would surely warn him of these rules. Lewis shrugged half-heartedly.
"I see, is there a spell less invasive but capable of the same outcome?" Lewis put his cell phone into his pocket and started blowing the candles out and turning on the light in his living room.
'There are untold numbers of spells in the multiverse. However, this is the spell I'm giving you to use. This magic is powerful and corrupting. Until I know you can handle the crumb of power I've provided you, I will only allow that spell to be cast. Your success is my goal and I will not let you fail us.' Apokrafix was solely looking out for his best interest but that didn't stop Lewis from smiling.
Lewis yammered more to the demon in his head while he cleaned up his apartment until he heard a soft knocking at his door and some giggling from the other side. Lewis tensed up as if he was caught doing something bad but then went to his door. He awkwardly opened the door with the chain still keeping it locked from would-be robbers and saw two young blonde girls, his neighbors. He'd recognized them from the first day they moved into his building. When he first heard someone moving into the apartment next door he found many excuses to walk down the hall when they were out there in order to look at them, they were beautiful.
"Hello, neighbor, my roommate and I were trying to get a bottle of wine opened but then we realized we didn't have an opener, could we borrow yours?" The first girl asked. She had braces on and deep olive green eyes. The other one had blue eyes that sparkled like the ocean.
"Power Word Control!" Lewis awkwardly shouted at the girls who suddenly shifted in stance and froze still standing in the hallway.
'Very subtle.' Apokrafix jeered Lewis for his panicked spell casting. 'They are girls, not monsters.' To Lewis, they may as well have been the same.
"Shut up!" The girls stared at him with glazed over eyes and shut their mouths tightly as commanded. Lewis noticed the girls' reactions and his eyebrows lifted in response. "Tell me your names?" He did his best to think of test commands.
"My name is Piper." The girl with braces and deep olive eyes responded first.
