The Story of John & Emma Hall
Two months later....
Emma Hall was desperately in love with her husband John. They had been married for nearly seven years and lived in a modest home near the spaceport on Vega 2.
And yet... some of the passion was gone from their lives. It was to be expected, Emma supposed, that they would no longer treat each other like newlyweds. John was attentive but distant. Whenever she sat on his lap and kissed him he kissed her back and took her in the bedroom for sex. But she was
always
the one who had to ask for it. Most of the time he ignored her unless she talked to him. She tried to tell herself it was normal and natural, but she had her doubts.
And then someone came to her and stoked the embers of her doubts into bright flames.
She was shopping for food in the supermarket one day when she thought she saw someone out of the corner of her eye. This spurred an unconscious recognition. She had been getting the feeling that she had seen someone out of the corner of her eye for the past few days. But when she looked, she saw no one.
Emma looked again, saw no one, and then turned back to the cereal shelf, and almost jumped out of her skin when she saw the tall man smiling at her.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," he said.
Emma gave a relieved smile. The man seemed so gentle, and handsome!
"My name is Caldor," he said, extending a hand.
Emma automatically shook his. Caldor's hand was warm, his grasp firm, and she felt a tingling go down her spine. As he smiled at her, she felt a wetness between her legs.
"I'm... I'm Emma," she stammered.
"You are a beautiful woman, Emma," said Caldor, a deep voice that gave her chills.
Emma's eyebrows shot up. Caldor was trying to pick her up!
"Thank you," she said, pretending to stare at cereals.
"A pity your husband does not appreciate you."
She turned to stare at him. "How... how can you know that?"
"It's written all over you," said Caldor. "You don't bask in the love of a man."
"Well, that's where you're wrong," said Emma, lifting a box of cereal from the shelf and holding it in front of her breasts, like a shield. "My John loves me very much."
"Does he? Does he really?"
Emma turned to Caldor and frowned.
What did he really know?
"Is he enthusiastic around you? Does he tell you how much he misses you when he comes home from work?"
"My John... he's a reserved kind of guy," said Emma, hefting the cereal box in her hand.
"But he wasn't always like that, was he?" Caldor said. "He's changed. He's lost interest in you, Emma."
"No!" Emma cried.
"Try an experiment. A very little experiment."
"What.... what do you suggest?" Emma asked. As she spoke, Caldor gave a smile.
She is starting to obey.
"Nothing much. At dinner tonight, don't say a word."
"What?"
"Not a word. See if John talks to you."
"Of course he'll talk to me! He loves me very much!" said Emma.
"Just see what happens." Caldor lightly ran a finger over Emma's shoulder, causing her to shiver. And then he was gone.
**********
Emma knew that Caldor was being silly. Of course John would talk to her! It just so happened that she was the one who started conversations with him
every
night. But if she didn't start talking, he certainly would talk to her!
She prepared John's favorite for dinner, Space Chicken with mushrooms. When he came home she turned and smile at him. Usually at this point she would fly into his arms and kiss him and ask how his day was. But she just smiled at him. John raised his eyebrows at her and turned away, without saying a word.
Emma lay their dinners on the dining room table. She sat anxiously waiting for John to come. She wore her yellow sundress which John had once called very fuckable, and shifted in her chair as she waited for him to shower and change. When he finally appeared moments later he looked down at his food, raised his eyebrows, and sat down and began to eat. He had his Pad in his hand and glanced at it as he ate dinner.
Emma tried to hide her disappointment. Surely John would say
something
. But minute after minute passed and he said nothing, absolutely nothing. He was so lost in his Pad! Emma went to get dessert from the kitchen. It was chocolate moose. She had to restrain herself from reminding John that it was his favorite. Instead, she set it out in front of him and waited and saw it.
John gave her a glance, then glanced at the dessert, and dug in.
Emma's weak smile turned to a frown.
Finally, unable to stand it anymore, she said, "How was work, Honey?"
And then her husband finally started talking to her as if realizing she was in the room with him for the very first time.
*********
Emma was taking a walk during lunch in the little park next to World Government Office Building #54. She turned a corner in the path and nearly jumped when she saw Caldor, apparently waiting for her.
"How did you know where to find me?" she said.
"There's a lot of things I know about you, Emma," he said, in such a deep, confident, sexy voice which made her tingle again. He asked a one word question. "So?"
"He... he didn't say anything." Emma's head hung down. "I didn't think it would be that way! But... he's a busy man. He has a lot on his mind."
"Apparently not his wife," said Caldor. "He's thinking of leaving you, you know."
Emma's eyebrows shot up. "How can you possibly know that?"
"Because I know you, Emma Hall, and through your memories I know your husband, John Hall," said Caldor. He took a step towards her. That's all it was, a single step. It felt menacing, and yet also...
exciting
. Emma's pussy lips got moist.
But Emma, her heart pounding, held her ground. "He loves me, I know he does!"
Caldor gave her a cocky smile. "Really? Does he ever leave you, to spend time with his friends?"
"Yes! Actually, he is going tonight to watch an assball game with his male friends." Emma gave Caldor a sharp glance. This seemed too much of a coincidence. Somehow, she was sure, Caldor already
knew
.
"You know that sexy nightgown you have that really turns him on?"
"Yes." Emma no longer asked how Caldor knew what he knew. He simply
