"This should be the place," Ava remarked as she stopped her car, somewhat uncertain, and looked at the jagged exterior of a small, secluded shack sitting by the road to their right. "Can you check that again?" she asked, turning around to look at the man sitting behind her.
"Yup, it's the place," Ethan quickly confirmed.
"Told you. It's just some dumbass getting his rocks off by baiting people on paranormal sites like that to go on wild goose chases in the backwoods," Maya bitingly remarked. "Dumbasses and you, I mean."
"Might be," Ava admitted as she opened the driver's door. "Time to check it out then. It's not like we're missing anything by being here, anyway," she added as she stepped out.
Standing a couple of feet away from the car, she waited for her friends to get out. She was genuinely curious about how the two will interact here. Usually, they barely talked together, with Maya being much more annoyed by Ethan's presence than he was by hers, with the two of them mostly just talking to her whenever they were out.
It was pretty weird to her, since by all rights, she should be the outsider, being a 27-year-old slacker still making her way through college, while the two of them were 21-year-olds already on their way to get through their college before she finally did. It didn't matter. They simply preferred her presence to the presence of the other one. She sometimes wondered whether one or both of them didn't have a crush on her to act like this. However, Ethan was planning to propose to his girlfriend, and although Maya did seem to prefer women slightly, she had admitted to her that she was now trying to get a boyfriend for a change, and in fact already had a guy she was hanging out with occasionally for the past few weeks.
Not to mention that at their age, they should already be mature enough to deal with stuff like this like normal adults. At least she hoped so.
Though, if there was even one thing that could get them to rethink their group dynamics, she was pretty sure that getting them to accompany her on a two-hour car trip for her to buy a magic camera from a stranger she met on a dying paranormal-focused forum she visited just about once in a week, which was nevertheless enough to make her one of its most frequent visitors, was exactly that.
A smirk appeared on her face when both of them exited the car at the same time.
"Do you at least know the guy's age or something?" Ethan asked as he walked towards her.
"A little late to ask that, don't you think?" Maya commented, annoyed, while keeping a distance of a few feet away from him after they caught up with Ava.
"Well, you didn't even think about it..." he countered, while expectantly looking at Ava.
"OK," she replied, just to shush him.
Ava sighed to herself.
"Nope. I know as much as you guys do. I hadn't texted him since I got the last message I showed you," Ava admitted. "All I know is that this guy should be there and that he's offering this camera. Though he sounds like he's much older, older than me I mean."
Now, it was Ethan who sighed, earning a quick, annoyed look from Maya.
"Let's just find out what's this about," Ava decided, turned around, and walked in the direction of the weird, run-down, jagged house, which now looked more like a tiny warehouse for some company that didn't matter how beaten down a place was and just needed a place to put their stuff in, than anything a human being would be staying in.
As she came by the door, she noticed a sign that looked like it was recently put there.
BUYERS ONLY!!!
"Huh, interesting," she remarked, much more lifelessly than she had expected.
"Told you, it's some total weirdo," Maya commented at the sight.
"He is, but at least he's here," Ava replied. Cautiously grabbing the door handle, a faint smile appeared on her face when she saw that the door was unlocked. "Wait for me a moment," she said, opened the door and slipped through.
There was no hallway or any other liminal space awaiting her and connecting to different rooms. Instead, she had entered straight into an office space, with beige and white walls, furniture and appliances randomly placed all over it, windows covered in paper with the only illumination coming from the lights on the ceiling, and a counter in the corner with an older man standing behind it.
By the time she had noticed him, the man had already run his eyes all over her. Seeing the pretty young brunette that had just entered the building, the man quite obviously liked what he saw. She was about 5'8", just a bit shorter than he was, with shoulder-length dark hair nicely complimenting her dark eyes, an overall shapely figure despite being rather thin, and despite the baggy T-shirt she had on, he could tell that she had a decent bust as well, which was what he loved the most.
"Hi, you're SpecialSales373, right?" she asked. "Can I call you that?"
