Selene stared in the dark corner of her bedroom ceiling, her wide eyed expression switched between surprise, fear, and apprehension.
A dark moldy stain had formed high up on the wall near the textured ceiling a few weeks ago and had grown slowly day by day. Selene had heard voices the first night she moved into the recently renovated apartment building, but thought they must be other tenants talking. She had intended to complain about the thin walls to the landlord.
Selene stared intently for a few moments, then nodded her head quickly, "Yes master, I understand." She scurried around the room making sure all the windows were unlocked, then went to the front door and undid the security chain, and flicked the deadbolt to unlock it, lastly she pressed buttons on her alarm panel to deactivate the alarm system. On her way back to the bedroom, she grabbed her pair of scissors, and the sharp knives from the kitchen and placed them in a box and put it inside a cabinet above the refrigerator, then she used a large cable tie to secure the handles together making it impossible to open without something sharp.
Back in the bedroom, she went into the closet and pulled out several items and laid them on the floor beside the bed. She was about to kneel down when she flinched and blurted out, "Sorry master, I forgot." and turned back to the closet. She rummaged around in her racquetball duffle bag and found a tube of balls. There were three well used blue balls in the tube, she pulled one out and put the rest back. Slamming the door to the closet, she returned to the hard tile floor beside her bed and knelt down in the position she had seen in a magazine many years ago.
Her heart was beating fast and her mind was racing. She felt scared and excited at the same time. The light thru the open blind was fairly bright and the room was well lit, but the corner high up near the ceiling was abnormally dark and shrouded in shadow. Selene waited for almost an hour in the position, on her knees, legs spread far apart, her hands on her knees, fists clenched. She could feel the painful hardness of the tiles against her knees and ankles, but dared not move. She kept her eyes focused on the objects in front of her. She suddenly looked up to the evil dark spot.
