Grabbing her bag Lori checked to make sure her purse was in it (more importantly her cards), then grabbed her mobile phone and keys.
"Remember you're taking the kids to their swimming lessons after school. Their stuff is all out for you. I'll get the shopping" she told her husband.
"Don't forget the wine," he retorted.
"I won't, don't forget the kids" Lori shouted back to her husband,
She heard him laugh as she closed the door. Dressed casually in her purple workout top and charcoal three-quarter length workout bottoms.
At thirty-six years old, Lori had spent a lot of her time working out since the birth of her two girls. Eating healthier as well she now sported a nice toned size 8 figure with 34C breasts. She was in better shape after having her two girls than she had been in her early teens. But she was also fully aware that she was in better shape and prettier than the other mothers at school, or any of the clubs the kids were in. Even the other wives of the lawyers her husband was a partner with didn't intimidate her.
She fobbed open the doors of her BMW walking around to the driver's side door as she pulled her shoulder-length brown hair with her distinctive blonde highlights back into a pony tail; slipping the black bobble from her wrist over the hair to keep it secure.
She jumped into the 4x4 and started the engine before putting on her Dior, glossy, burnt-brown sunglasses and headed for the supermarket.
Arriving at the car park she began to cut along the front of the building. She was happy the place looked quiet, and decided on a row that was one level up from the shop exit. As she signalled and then started to pull into a space, she had to slam on the brakes as a man stepped in front of her.
Instinctively she tooted the horn and he turned around. She held both her hands out and mouthed, 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING?'
She noted he was around her height; about five feet, five inches, with a very slim build. Unhealthily thin she thought. His skin was pale, and his hair was shaved on either side with the top long and wavy; it was black, but greying fast. She noted if it had been spiked it would have gave him a punk look.
She judged him to be around fifty years old, and not an attractive man by any means.
He continued to stare at her and she met his gaze without blinking. He then took a step back onto the curb.
She pulled her sunglasses off and dropped them onto the passenger seat. While she drove past him he continued to stare. As she got level with him her eyes met his. She hadn't noticed the pale sparkling colour until she had removed the tinted glasses; for a second she was lost in his eyes. She didn't feel scared, just relaxed... then, she had to quickly snap out of it regaining control of the car.
She pulled into the space and quickly stepped out of the car; she looked back to the curb only to see he was gone. She looked around the rest of the car park to see him, but there was no sign. With a sigh, she went back into the car, got her purse and locked the door.
As she crossed to the store, she again scanned the car park; nothing.
After collecting a shopping cart, and before going in she stopped again, taking in the whole car park to look for him and those eyes again, before giving a greater sigh and going inside.
She hazily began her shopping. She tried to convince herself she was looking for the guy because she didn't know if he was angry about the exchange, but she really knew she wanted to see those amazing eyes again.
It wasn't until the third aisle that she realised she had put random stuff in the shopping cart, while she'd been more concerned with looking all around for someone or something, than with paying attention to her list.
She felt herself start to sink, the type of sinking feeling you get when worried about something, or when something is bugging you but you can't put your finger on it.
Then he was there, standing at the bottom of the aisle. She bit her lip and slowly pushed the trolley towards him. He stood watching her, and she was excited by it; this guy, this ugly guy was exciting her!
Rising to her full height, she realised she was the same size as he was. She swung her hips and sauntered towards him.
Looking around the aisle, she saw that only two older ladies discussing a product were in it, and they were at the other end.
"Hi."
She wanted to say something cooler, and cursed herself for not thinking it through.
"Hey." His voice was deep and coarse, like someone who'd been a heavy smoker for a long time.
She quickly jumped back in, "Look, sorry about the car park thing."
