Chapter 7
Things were going well for Danny; he had returned to slipping Aunt Sarah the normal Liquid Bliss during her nighttime routine and had been able to continue the routine of slipping into her room after bedtime, fucking her, then slipping back to his own room unnoticed. He'd even managed to get her alone a few times behind his parents backs, fucking her in the local movie theater a few times, then another time when she'd taken him out to practice driving. After all of these, she still gave no indication that she realized he was having his way with her as much as possible.
One day, while talking to Mike, his friend let him know about a new discovery he had made. "So, it's called 'Echo', Danny. It's basically a way to record thoughts and memories, then play them back. Pretty neat, huh?"
Danny was intrigued. "How does it work?"
Mike chuckled, "Well, it's a bit complicated, but basically, it uses a combination of nanobots and neurochemicals to map out the brain's neural pathways. Then, it records the electrical impulses that correspond to specific memories or thoughts."
Danny's curiosity was piqued. "That sounds... interesting, Mike."
"That's not all, though. This is the relevant part for you: When combined with Liquid Bliss, it has a crazy effect... you can basically tell someone what they're thinking, and later, that thought will be imprinted inside their mind. Some real 'Inception' shit!" Mike said, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Imagine being able to plant ideas in someone's head, make them think they came up with an idea all on their own. The possibilities are endless, Danny. Think about it - you could make Aunt Sarah think she's been dreaming about you, wanting you, needing you. She'd be putty in your hands, all the time."
Danny shifted uncomfortably in his chair, the idea both thrilling and unsettling. "I don't know, Mike. That's some dark shit. I don't want to mess with her mind like that."
Mike rolled his eyes. "Ok ok, cause fucking her every night and making her forget about it is totally normal... But you know the issues you have with your parents? This could totally solve that!"Â Mike insisted, leaning in closer to the camera. Your parents are always on your case about something, right? School, chores, your so-called 'unhealthy' gaming habits. What if you could make them think you were the perfect son? That you were studying harder, helping out more, even enjoying some wholesome outdoor activities? They'd be none the wiser, and you'd finally have some peace and quiet to do what you really want to do."
Danny hesitated, considering Mike's words. He had to admit, the idea of having his parents off his back was tempting. It seemed like they were always popping up anytime he had an erection and wanted to get Sarah alone. It would be great to get them to want to take a vacation or take up a hobby or something. Anything to keep them out of his hair. But the idea of manipulating their minds like that still made him uneasy. That seems like a slippery slope. "What if something goes wrong? What if I can't control it?" He asked.
Mike waved a dismissive hand. "Nothing's gonna go wrong, dude. We're testing it extensively. Plus, it's not like you're gonna be doing anything crazy. Just a little nudge here and there. Suggesting an idea, not forcing it."
Danny still wasn't convinced. "So what's the catch?" Danny had known Mike long enough to know something like this had to have some sort of catch like it turned your hair a weird color, or made you see little green men, or was instantly lethal... it couldn't just be perfect.
Mike must have sensed his hesitation, because he leaned back in his chair, his expression turning serious. "Look, Danny, okay okay okay. So there is one small issue:Â Echo has a bit of a... side effect."
Danny raised an eyebrow. "I knew it. What side effect?"
Mike scratched the back of his neck, looking uncomfortable. "Yeah, well, it's not a big deal, really. It's just that, when you use Echo to plant an idea, it creates a... a kind of mental reverberation, if you will. Basically one idea goes in, but another idea comes out."
"So what the hell does that mean?" Danny asked, now intrigued.
Mike continued. "So it's still being tested, but like, the person just forgets something. It's not always clear what they'll forget but sometimes it's a person's name, or a phone number, easy shit like that."
"And other times?" Danny urged.
"Okay, so just once, a woman totally forgot who her husband was... but dude she was really old already and I'm pretty sure it was Alzheimer's that did the heavy lifting there." Mike said, laughing nervously.
Danny's eyes widened. "You're kidding me, right? That's not funny, Mike. That's terrifying."
Mike held up his hands. "Hey, hey, hey, calm down. I'm just saying, it's a minor glitch, that's all. And it's only happened that one time. Plus, think about it -- if anything, it could be useful."
Danny sighed, considering Mike's words. Well I appreciate the information, but I'm good for now."
......
A few days later at dinner, Aunt Sarah made an announcement, clinking her wine glass with a spoon and standing up from the table. "I've been offered a job in Seattle, guys. It's a great opportunity for me, but it means I'll have to move away."
"That's great, Sarah!" his mom said, smiling. "But it's so far away. Are you sure you want to do this? It's no problem having you here, right guys?"
Danny and his dad both agreed with his mom, Danny being careful to not seem overly enthusiastic. Really, he was incredibly disappointed, if Aunt Sarah moved away, there went his access to ridiculously easy hot sex... He'd grown accustomed to basically fucking Aunt Sarah as much as he wanted now, spoiled even. It had been a dream come true, but loosing her would be a nightmare.
"It's a big step for sure. I asked if they could do remote, they said they'd potentially entertain the idea, even up to a few years, but I think it's better if I just cut ties and go." Sarah seemed determined, her mind having been made up. "I think it's time for a fresh start, you know? A new city, a new job, a new life. I've been stuck in this town for too long, and I think it's time to spread my wings."
Danny's heart sank. He knew he should be happy for her, but all he could think about was how much he was going to miss their secret nights together. He tried to keep his voice steady as he asked, "When are you planning on leaving?"
"I have to be there by the end of the month," Sarah replied, taking a sip of her wine. "I know it's sudden, but the company wants me to start as soon as possible."
Danny nodded, trying to hide his disappointment. "That's... that's great, Aunt Sarah. I'm happy for you." He forced a smile, but his mind was racing. He only had a few weeks left with her, and he was determined to make the most of it.
After dinner, Danny excused himself and retreated to his room. He closed the door behind him and leaned against it, letting out a sigh. He couldn't believe that Sarah was leaving.
But what if she didn't want to?
Mike's sales pitch on Echo came flooding back to him. The idea of keeping Sarah close, of making her want to stay, started to take root in Danny's mind. He knew it was risky, but he also knew he couldn't just let her go without a fight. He went to his computer and got on a video call with Mike.
"Hey, Mike," Danny said, trying to keep his voice casual. "I've been thinking about that stuff you told me about, Echo. I need to know everything about it, and I need to know it yesterday.
Mike let out a whoop on the other end of the line. "Hell yeah, Danny! I knew you'd come around. You won't regret this, man!"
....
Mike broke down Echo for him, explaining what it was, how it was made, how they stumbled across it in the lab, and how it would react with Liquid Bliss. Most of the technical chemical mumbo jumbo went right over Danny's head, but he got the gist of it. Echo was a mind-mapping substance, a way to navigate thoughts and memories. When combined with Liquid Bliss, it could plant ideas in someone's head, making them believe they were their own thoughts.
"Alright, so how do I use it?" Danny asked, leaning in closer to the screen.
Mike grinned, "Well, first you gotta get her to ingest a combination of the two chemicals, I'll send you breakdown of all the numbers and amounts. That's the gateway drug, if you will. Once she's under, you can use the effects of Echo to plant whatever idea you want in her head."
Danny nodded, his mind racing with possibilities.
"Okay, so I give her the stuff, wait for it to kick in, then use Echo to make her want to stay, right? Sounds easy."
Mike held up a finger. "Not quite. You see, Echo is a bit finicky. It needs a trigger to work properly. Something that'll make her receptive to the idea you're planting."
Danny thought for a moment, then snapped his fingers. "Her job offer. She said she could do remote work for at least a little while, maybe I twist it, make her want to stay here and work remote."
Mike clapped his hands together. "Exactly! Now you're getting it. That would probably work, until her company actually makes her move to Seattle. It just has to be something that will sort of jar the person, so you present it in a way that will sort of unsettle them. Now, about the eighteen hour rebound time..."
"What eighteen hour rebound time, Mike?" Danny asked.
"Oh... I must've missed that...." Mike's voice trailed off.
"What's the eighteen hour rebound time, Mike?" Danny asked, furrowing his brow.
