Mitch certainly took advantage of the benefits of having the medallion around his neck. More than a few times he would enthrall some cute coed into his entertainment servant for an evening or a weekend, making her pleasure him and his sluts. The artist used both the Archimedes method and acid reaction to determine that the medallion was over 99.9 percent pure gold, more pure than either method could determine. Knowing this would be bio-inert, Mitch went to a local hospital.

There he enthralled the head of thoracic surgery to learn who was the most skilled surgeon at the hospital. In the subsequent meeting he enslaved the fellow, a hotshot gaining national recognition for his abilities. Mitch shared his wish, and the surgeon came up with an appropriate suggestion. Mitch had him list his preferred team members, nurses, technicians, anesthesiologist. One by one he enslaved them all, making arrangements for a generous slot in a surgery room. Mitch even enslaved all the shift nurses who would be caring for him afterwards. Using the power of the medallion was becoming second nature for Mitch. Little conscious effort was required.

The surgeon had suggested a pocket just below the spleen. Surrounded by adipose tissue, the medallion would not be felt and wouldn't shift around. The surgery was performed without a problem. Everything went smoothly. The surgeon attended personally throughout the recovery. Mitch healed faster than any patient he had ever seen. The wound sealed in two days, forming a thin scar before the week was out. After two weeks the wound was fully healed, there was no outward sign of surgery. Follow up scans showed that his body had enveloped the medallion in connective tissue, giving it a comfortable, permanent home inches away from his heart.

Mitch was no longer burdened by carrying the medallion around his neck. No danger of losing it, no likely theft, it was hard to say whether he possessed it, or it possessed him. The power of the medallion would be at his instant need until his death. He had all records of the surgery purged from the hospital records. He carefully wiped the memories of all slaves and servants at the hospital before turning them free. His two wives were the only humans alive who knew of its existence.

The Medallion did in fact induce some subtle changes in Mitch and his servants and slaves. For Mitch the changes became considerably stronger after he had the medallion embedded in his chest. Karen had selected a Dr. Rogers at the University medical school to work with. Mitch enslaved her to ensure total discretion. (He gave her a few new sexual appetites while he was at it.) They devised a set of experiments to study the physiological and psychological effects. Karen needed access to a study group. Jill had come up with a plan to secure the seed money to establish Mitch's fortune. Mitch suggested a way to weave both plans into a well deserved vacation. Mitch hit up Bart Cubbins for some travelling cash. They packed light and jumped on a plane for Miami.
