Preface
The names of places, organizations, and people are fictional. If anything/anyone shares the same name, it would be a coincidence.
The story is not completely filled with sex scenes. Only chapter 3 has particularly erotic content.
Being a male writer, I could not pretend to accurately depict the female characters' thoughts and emotions. I apologize for anything that appeared to be too much "how men write women".
The form is a combination of diaries, correspondence, and reports. I have tried my best to make the format understandable within the limit of plain text.

Chapter 1: Away from the Blue Sky
[Diary of Madison Monroe, MD]
June 14, 2022
Today, I participated in two autopsies as an expert consultant. Both of them were determined to be police officers on duty. I do not care to repeat the technical details here as I exhausted that part of my mind today in the autopsy room.
In summary, victim one was shot, then stabbed fiercely through the heart; victim two was shot in the back of his head, execution style. Both victims had defensive wounds, indicating that they had fought the assailant.
It shocked me that life would pass away just like that. The officers weren't dead yet for 5 hours when we examined their bodies; there was zero sign of life. Even as an expert of human body, I could not pin point what make us recognizing life vs. lifeless. But the moment I saw the bodies, a scary chill sank my heart to the zero degree Kelvin. I could imagine them walking when they were alive; I could see the dead bodies lying on the tables; however, there was a particular gap between that imagination and that reality, which my brain refused to fill. In other words, despite knowing every detail of the killings, I still cannot picture
how
they dead.
But that was not yet the most thrilling part. My expertise was consulted due to an inexplicable phenomenon: the entire cerebellum was missing of victim one was missing. The same could not be determined for victim two as the bullet practically shredded every tissue in his skull.
Why? How? The cerebellum is absolute essential in regulating senses and movements. How can a person behave so normally that none of his colleague suspected an illness while missing the entire motor cortex? I don't understand.
There was no scar tissue anywhere to be found; the removal of the organ left no visible mark on the rest of the brain. It cannot be removed after his death; as a newly executed brain operation would surely leave some mark on the skull, the brain, and the skins. There seemed to be no explanation.
I'm going to sleep now. I hope they catch the bastard who did this, and I hope that I can be of use. But right now, I am so fully exhausted - both my body and my mind.

Dear Miss. Fuller,
I heard today's tragic of the two police officers, and I hope you are all well. Especially at times like now, we need to remain strong and calm. I wish you the best luck of catching the killer.
I also heard rumors that part of the brain - an essential part - was missing from the victim's skull. From my shallow understanding of the human anatomy, that would be devastating for a human being in every aspect. Was there truly no one noticing him behave strangely? Complaints of headache, dizziness? I would like you to keep me closely in the loop when the technicians figure this out.
Putting aside the tragedies, I'd like to confess that I had a fantastic time last night. You are the most intelligent and attractive woman that this world has ever seen. I desperately hope that our date on next Saturday will not be affected by your busy life right now.
Yours,
Lovingly,
Mayor Leonardo Johnson

Dear Leonardo,
I hope that I could write you good news. I cannot. The police department is in deep chaos, and to be honest so is my mind. We consulted a renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Monroe, and even she could not offer even a conjecture on what had happened.
I like you, too Leonardo. But I really don't think it's good time for dates before the mystery is solved. I have a real bad feeling about this one.
Yours sincerely,
Mindy Fuller
Chief of Police Department

My Dear Diary,
I don't know where to start. Now that I'm sitting here writing, I feel so silly. I just had sex with the Leonardo in the back of his car.
I tried to refuse him, but he insisted, and I went on the date anyway. He's so polite yet when I talk to him face to face, I simply could not refuse him. Oh god, what a terrible time for an affair.
I literally felt that I wasn't in control of myself. It was like when a kid is asked to do something by an imposing adult, scary yet convincing at the same time... I'm never like this. I have always believed in my self-control and self-esteem since high school.
He's getting out of the shower, now. Goodnight my diary.

A rainy day. God, I hate the weather.
Today is the second time that I join the consultant team. There were a few new faces in the room. Unfortunately, no one could offer any explanations.
Chief Fuller informed us that more cases with brains missing cerebellum had surfaced. The victim appeared to be randomly selected, therefore likely by convenience of time and effort. The profiler could not yet give a clear profile of the killers, but he was convinced that they were a group of at least three participants.
I don't really care about the psychology to be honest. It was too fuzzy to be a scientific deduction. However, I have no advancement in my field on this case. We have coined a few far-fetched theories:
1). A disease causes the cerebellum to shrink and eventually disappear. The shrinkage occurred so slowly, that the brain learned to perform the same tasks. When the cerebellum was fully consumed, the patient would appear to be behaving normally as the rest of the brain had finished re-learning the task.
2). The patient had genetic conditions that had prevented the cerebellum to grow in the first place. Similarly, other parts of the brain took the responsibilities.
However, there are two obvious problems with both theories: the frequency of this disease cannot be so high, or we would have known about it already. Second, how exactly did the killers target those patients if the latter behaved like a normal person?
On a more cheering note, I found that the number of female neurosurgeon and researchers exceeded my expectation. I'm so glad that girls are less barred from the scientific field. There are a good number of female officers, too.
It's a terrible time to gossip, but I do notice that Chief Fuller seems to be involved with the Mayor. I'd never thought of her as the "affair type". She seemed quite uptight. Well, I guess you don't really know people from the first impression.

Chapter 2: Rainy Days
[Phone Call: Mayor Leonardo Johnson with Chief Fuller]
June 20, Night
Leonardo
: Chief Fuller, I hope that you are still up.
Fuller
: I-I am. What's up? It's almost midnight. You have something urgent?
Leonardo
: Everything is urgent my dear. Have you already gone to bed?
Fuller
: Yes. I-
