The Village IX
Retirement Community
After our shower, we got dressed and went to the kitchen. I am not much of a coffee drinker but I kept coffee around for moments like this. I offered to make a pot of coffee for her. We sat at the breakfast counter and talked for a few hours before realizing the time. Helen drank a few cups of coffee while we talked.
Once we noticed the time, Helen thought she should get back to her house. She wanted to do a few things around the house and relax the remaining of the day. I had a few chores to do also.
I grabbed her bag and walked her to her car. We kissed and cuddled before she got in the driver's seat. We promised each other that we would get together soon. I watched as she drove off and then went inside.
Once inside, I went to my bed room and looked at the bed. It was a mess. The sheets were all out of place and pillows were on the floor. I knew I had to take the sheets off to put a new set of linens on the bed. I have several sets of linens so that was no problem. I really did not have anything planned for the day, so I was able to take my time and clean the house.
Not long after I had put new linens on the bed, my phone rang. I immediately thought it was Helen letting me know she had made it home safely. Instead, I was taken by surprise when I saw it was Millie calling me. We got into a lengthy discussion about current events and the weather. During the conversation, I got a text from Helen telling me she made it home safely and thanking me for the wonderful time.
Millie was hinting that she wanted to see me again. At least that is how I was taking it. When I asked if she wanted to come over, she quickly accepted and just told me to tell her when. Before we could decide on a day, she proceeded to tell me that the ladies were talking about me. They are all aware of me seeing each of them. None of them had a problem with it. They all had an agreement that they would not talk about any details of each of their visits. They only had one suggestion and that was that I do not see any two in the same day.
I told Mille that I was planning on going to the hospital Monday after work. I would like for the ladies to come listen to me then. I then asked Millie if she wanted to spend the night Friday with me. I told her that I was planning on going to a nearby town on Saturday morning for a town festival. I asked if she wanted to join me. There would be crafts, food, music and such. We both thought it would be nice to spend the day together without worrying if someone would see us and start gossip.
Monday, I went to work and did all I had to by 4:00pm. I rushed home and freshened up and went to the hospital to play a couple hours. I checked in with Mrs. Pollock and got my tip jar. As I went sit at the piano, Helen was leaving the gift shop. I will admit, she looked very nice. She seemed to have a new happy personality. She came over and gave me a kiss and a hug. She told me she would love to stay but she had to go to her daughters house. I told her we would get together soon.
I watched as she walked away. She had a new bounce in her step that showed how her confidence had built up. She looked to have a new purpose. I hoped that was because I was involved in her life now.
Just as I was starting my first song, I saw The Village Ladies walking in. Millie approached first and put a twenty-dollar bill in my jar. The ladies sat on a nearby bench and tapped their feet to the music and at times even clapped with the beat. I was surprised when Maude even stood up and danced a little to a song that was special to her.
Watching Maude dance around was really stimulating to me. She had a little jiggle to her steps that made it difficult to concentrate on my music. It was nice to see the ladies laughing and enjoying themselves. I couldn't help but think how fortunate I was to have all these grannies getting along so well. I would have never in my wildest dreams thought I would be sleeping with a group of friends who did not mind sharing me.
I entertained for two hours. I played an assortment of music from the 60's to modern. I know the ladies like remembering the old ones from the 60's too. They also enjoyed the Big Band sounds. It did not take long to catch on what any particular audience liked. In the Mood by Glen Miller from 1938 was one of the ladies favorites.
I announced that I would play two more songs and asked if anyone had a request, like I did each time I performed there. No one made a request, so I continued with the list I had prepared earlier. I usually have a small list of songs that I want to play, usually because of special occasions and such. It was to make sure that I included those songs in my set. It was never a full list because I as I said before, I play according to the crowd.
As I started the last song, Millie got up and went to the bathroom across the way. By the time I finished the song, she had reappeared. She walked back to the rest of the ladies and waited for me to finish.
After I played my last song, as I was picking up my things, the ladies came gather around me. They each shared the highlights of my performance. They each hugged and kissed me as they walked off. As Millie hugged me, she put something in my pocket. Each one of them was content and started walking to the entrance. However, Maude purposely waited for the last one. She told me that she had a doctor's appointment the next day in the town that I worked. She asked if I knew a place we could have lunch. She quickly added, her treat to the question. I told her to call me once she was finished at the doctor and I would tell her where to meet me.
She caught up with The Village Ladies and left the hospital. I watched the ladies they walked to the entrance of the hospital. There was little height difference in the 5 ladies and their figures were all of the typical matured plump granny. It was a sight to relish for sure. I wanted to engrave that in my mind so I could savor it later. Three of the ladies were wearing capri pants and the others were in a summer casual dress. Beautiful!
