This will be a slow burn, with details that some may find boring, on the other hand, if you like slow romantic stories, involving two or more women, you may want to read it through to its climax. [Pardon the pun]. This story contains elements of family life and warm and gentle people. It is a work of fiction, none of the characters or places are real.

Chapter 25 -- A Stroke, The Recovery, and an Engagement.
Michelle screamed. She ran to Kathy's side, knelt beside her, and rolled her over onto her lap, she felt for a pulse and found none, and she put her ear to her Mistress's nose and mouth, only because she had seen it done on TV not knowing what she was listening for. She continued screaming, calling for help.
No one came.
She knew time was of the essence.
Tears were cascading down her cheeks, her screaming was louder, and she began to shake her Mistress. She knew she had to act, but what to do?
"Don't die, don't die," Is all that she could say, over and over again. Her head was spinning, she began to talk out loud to herself, as if issuing instructions.
"The phone, ring Mia," Her eyes scanned the bedside tables, and she carefully laid her Mistress back down, and reached for the phone. She brought up Mia's number and pressed the call button. It seemed like forever before it was answered,
Mia was in a chirpy mood when she answered, knowing it was Kathleen's phone ringing her. "Hi, I thought you'd be down here to see how it was working?"
"Mia, help me, Kathy has collapsed, I can't wake her, I can't feel her, Battement de cœur -- Pouls, [heartbeat - pulse,] what do I do, help me,"
Mia took it all in, and at the same time as she was listening, she was waving to Emily. The seriousness on her face made Emily come running and stand next to her silently, waiting to be told what was happening.
"Stop panicking and listen to me," Then turning to Emily told her to get the car out, they were going to Kathy's.
"Michelle, stay calm, find the other phone, and dial triple zero, I will stay on this phone. We are on our way. Do you know CPR?" She asked her.
Michelle was listening, her own heart racing, she went running back to the kitchen then quickly picked up her phone she rushed back to Kathleen's side as she was dialing the 0-0-0 emergency number.
It was answered on the first ring.
"What's your emergency?" A woman's voice asked.
"My Mistress isn't breathing, she fell over," Michelle answered as she burst into tears again.
"What's your location?
Michelle gave her the address.
"I don't know CPR or anything," she blurted out.
"An emergency doctor will be there within 7 minutes. Can you feel a pulse?"
"No, NO, I tried I can't feel it,"
"Calm yourself, he is almost there, what's your name?"
"It's Michelle Dumuir, how do I find her pulse?"
"Michelle, take a deep breath and calm yourself. My name is Mary and I'm going to help you. The Resuscitation Doctor is not far away. Now listen carefully to me, are you listening?
"Yes, Yes, I'm listening,"
"Place your index finger next to your thumb and middle finger on the side of her neck. They should go in the groove under her jaw and next to the windpipe. Press firmly until you feel a pulse. Count the pulses for 30 seconds,"
"Yes, Yes, I can feel it, but it is so faint. I can hear a siren," Michelle was almost screaming.
"That's good, you can feel her pulse, Michelle,"
There was a noise of a car coming to a sudden, screaming stop and running feet up the verandah. A loud voice was at the front door.
"Hello, open the door, Michelle,"
Michelle jumped up and ran for the front door, once opened she just pointed to their bedroom. The Resuscitation Doctor sprang into action, as he pushed by her.
He was carrying two bags one marked Defibrillator in large letters the other just an ordinary-looking bag which he kept attached on his back.
"How long has she been like this?" He asked.
His hands now were on her chest, one top of the other pumping down in a steady motion.
"I don't know, not long," She replied in between sobbing.
"How long, think back, who did you ring first?" He asked, his eyes dark and tired looking.
Michelle then remembered Mia, she looked at her phone the call to Mia was still open and read 2 minutes and 37 seconds.
She told the doctor and added, "Maybe a couple of minutes more before I found her,"
"OK, Michelle, that's good," he told her, his face tried to smile but he was concentrating they all knew the longer the brain went without oxygen the more damage was done. He then spoke into the microphone attached to the collar of his shirt.
"Base, this is Alpha ten fourteen, we have a cardiac arrest, nil response, I am going to defib as soon as the crew get here, this goes to the top of the list,"
Michelle, put the phone to her ear and spoke, "Mia, where are you?"
Mia was still there listening to everything, "Michelle we are still fifteen minutes away, Terry and Cynthia are heading down too. What's going on down there, talk to us,"
As the girls were talking another paramedic team arrived with the ambulance.
They went in immediately to help the Resus Doctor.
