My wife Toni and I are staying at Thatcham Hall, a luxury hotel in the heart of the English countryside. In spite of being in our late sixties, we are full of beans and enjoying life to the hilt. Our kids have gone off to university and we've just completed the purchase of the house we've wanted for years.
In the evening, before dinner, we go to the bar for an aperitif and the barman tells us about the 'pub quiz and dinner' that evening. Since we don't have anything else planned, we decide to go.
It's held in a large, Elizabethan hall with about 15 large tables for the contestants.
Irritatingly, we are split up onto different tables and I'm stuck with a boring couple, a single gay man and some old dears. Just my luck!
Toni, on the other hand, has a quite raucous and funny couple of twins either side of her who are very flirtatious and getting very generous with the Sauvignon Blanc, which they share liberally. I can see that she is having a great laugh with them and it's clear that they are enchanted by her. She is a naturally, beautiful woman
The event lasts a couple of hours, the dinner is superb and Toni seems on top form from across the room. What I don't realise is that the twins, who are very handsome, are being quite suggestive to her and she doesn't seem to mind, indeed she reciprocates by flirting outrageously with them. This is totally out of character. Have they slipped something in her drink? However, my motto is, if she's happy, so am I!
As we file out of the room, she coquettishly introduces me to her new pals Jake and Jonathan.
