So, how did I become known as the baby maker, you ask?
Well, I can honestly say it started out quiet innocently, when my friends Nathan and Jemma, who had been trying to start a family for a while, asked me for help.
Like all young couples who wanted to become parents, they first did everything you normally do, they tried procreation nonstop, at all times of the day and night, and even sometimes, wherever they could.
However, that didn't seem to work, so they turned to the books and online sites for advice, but after trying a few suggestions they still had no luck, so, eventually they went to their doctor for help, and after the usual tests, they unfortunately discovered, Nathan was shooting blanks.
Obviously they were both completely shattered by this news, their dreams of having a family were in ruins, and there was nothing they could do about it.
However, they weren't ready to give up just like that, and after a while, started to look into the other options.
Now, over the next few months, they looked into the different ways to get a baby, but, most of the other ways relied on money or luck, and unfortunately for them, they didn't seem to have a lot of either at that moment.
So anyway, on a normal Sunday afternoon a few weeks later, they invited me over for lunch, and when I arrived, Nathan, who was a tall cheerful guy, with an average build and fair hair, and Jemma, who was an average height young woman, with straight black hair down to her shoulders, and had a pretty pale face and slim body, met me at the door.
They eagerly welcomed me inside as they had often done, when I came over for a meal, and soon we were sat at their dining table, eating a delicious roast that Jemma had made.
However, as we eat, I got a sense they wanted to ask me something, because oddly they began asking me some unusual questions.
"So, how are you Steve? Feeling fit? Healthy? Got any illness or heredity diseases, you'd like to tell us about?" Nathan asked curiously.
"What?!" I asked back, looking confused.
"Don't worry about it Steve, you look well enough to me." Jemma then said cheerily, before then asking "So, you were pretty athletic at school as I remember, don't you have some other talents too?"
I stared back at her in confusion too, because this was not the usual casual chit chat and laughter I was use to with them, before I replied "Well. I was pretty good at wood work and drawing, I supposed."
"Great! Great!" exclaimed Nathan happily, before he then asked "So, do you have any wild mood swings, or sudden outbursts of anger? What is your usual mood like?"
I stared back at him in disbelief again, not sure if I should answer that or not, before Jemma then asked "Didn't you play an instrument at school? Do you still play it now?"
Then Nathan asked again "How long have most of your relations live too?"
"Okay!" I then exclaimed loudly, stopping them asking me anymore questions, before I then asked back "What's going on here? Why are you both asking me lots of questions about my life?"
Nathan and Jemma then sat in an awkward silence for a moment, before they gave each other looks, until finally Nathan looked back at me and replied "Okay. Well, we've kind of got a big favour ask you, but, we wanted to try and make sure you were a suitable person, first!"
"Suitable person for what?" I asked back.
"Well, you know we haven't had much luck, trying to start a family?" Nathan then asked.
"Uh huh. I was aware of it." I replied politely back.
"Yes. Well, after looking into all our options, we've kind of realised, the only way for us to get a baby is..." Nathan then said, before Jemma added "Is to use a sperm donor."
They then stared right at me with small eager smiles, and after a moment, it dawned on me, what they were actually trying to ask me.
"Oh! You mean... you want me to..." I replied a little shocked, before both Nathan and Jemma nodded keenly.
"Yes! We've looked into it, and we could go to a fertility clinic and get some random guys DNA, but, we would never know what we were really getting, and it does cost a lot!" Nathan then said unhappily.
"Quite a lot!" added Jemma.
"So, we thought about it, and then realised, who would make an ideal sperm donor for us, well, our good friend Steve!" Nathan then said eagerly, with a big smile.
I continued to stare back at them, just stunned they were asking me this, before Jemma then said "I know this is a lot to ask, but, we both have known you for years, and, you're a real nice guy, so, would you consider doing it?"
I sat in silence for a moment thinking it over, but as I stared back at their eager hopeful faces, I could think of only one thing to say to my closest friends "Okay."
"Okay?!" asked Jemma eagerly.
"Okay!" I replied casually again.
They both then cried out excitedly and gave each other big hugs, before Nathan then looked at me and said "Thank you dude! Thank you! You don't know how much this will mean to us!"
"Oh yeah, this is just a really amazing thing you're going to do here!" added Jemma eagerly.
"It's no problem. I'm happy to help!" I replied happily back.
"There's just one thing." Nathan then said, before he glanced at his pretty little wife.
"Yeah. We can't... afford the fertility treatment." Jemma then said awkwardly.
"Oh, okay. How much is it?" I asked, realising I might have to help with that too.
"Thousands!" replied Nathan back.
"Thousands?" I asked back in amazements.
"Thousands!" replied Nathan again.
"Oh." I then muttered a little concerned, because that was a lot of money, and I really didn't have much in my savings.
Then Jemma said "Yeah, we don't exactly have the money for it either, so, we were hoping, if you're okay with it, that maybe... we could do it, the old fashion way?"
I stared back at her in confusion for a moment, not entirely sure what she meant by the old fashion way, before she said nervously "You know, you and I, and... no condom."
I instantly looked at her in amazement, because I couldn't believe what my friend was proposing right in front of her husband, but, as I glanced over at him, he just stared eagerly back at me, waiting for my answer.
I then sat there in stunned silence again, not entirely sure what to say, before Nathan then asked "Well. Would you?"
As they both stared at me, keenly waiting for me to say something, I knew I didn't want to let them down, because I had kind of already agreed to help them, so, finally I replied "Okay. If you really want me to!"
