I was tired of the big city, I was tired of the little boys who called themselves men. I decided it was time for a change so I packed my car and headed south to country living.
I had always lived in the city and it was frustrating and stressful. I wanted nothing more than to just breath, relax and be myself. So I kept driving until the big city lights were far behind me.
After several hours of driving the interstate, I decided to exit and take the country roads. I needed to be away from the stresses of the traffic.
It was getting late and I was exhausted. I pulled into a little parking lot to a motel. I went in and paid for a room. I unlocked the door and walked over as I fell onto the bed. I let out a sigh of relief.
I woke the next morning and realized I had passed out from being so tired. I quickly jumped in the shower then dressed and threw my hair up.
I checked out of the room and went back to driving. I enjoyed the sights as much as I could. It was a relief to see nothing but green fields and animals. I could feel the stress lifting from me.
After driving for a few more hours I stopped at this little country store for something to drink. There was an elderly man behind the counter. He was so friendly. I asked him if he knew of any place available to rent in the area.
He smiled a sweet smile and said there was a room for rent at a farmhouse a few miles down the road. I thanked him and headed back out.
I drove for a few miles and saw the sign at the end of a driveway. I went down the drive and parked. Just as I was getting out of my car a woman came out of the front door and greeted me.
I walked up to the porch and told her I was interested in the room for rent. We sat on the porch and talked for quite awhile. I told her my story and how much I needed a change.
She took me into the house and showed me around. It was simple but beautiful. She took me to the spare room and asked if I would like to rent it. I politely told her yes.
We walked back out to my car and retrieved my bags, she helped me carry them to my new room. She told me to unpack and relax for a bit then she would show me around the rest of the property.
As she walked out I couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was. She was a bit younger than me. She had been the only person I had seen since I had arrived. I wondered to myself who else resided here on the property.
I continued to unpack and settle in. There was a bathroom right off my room, on the other side it was connected to another bedroom. I was curious as to who slept just on the other side.
After about an hour she came back into my room and asked if I would like to see the rest. I smiled and shook my head yes. We walked through the rest of the house. As we exited through the kitchen door to the yard there was a big red barn.
It was almost as big as the house. The doors to the barn were closed so I couldn't see inside of it. We walked around the outside of it, as we rounded the corner I saw the horses. They were beautiful standing there. I was startled when I heard a loud noise coming from the barn. The woman, Lexi is her name, giggled a little.
She walked to the small door and knocked, she didn't enter. After a few minutes, three fairly large men walked out of the door. She introduced them to me. These are my brothers, Dean, John and Brian. They all smiled and greeted me.
I couldn't help but look all three of them over. They were very handsome and you could tell they worked hard on the farm. We talked for a few more minutes and they excused themselves as they walked back through the door into the barn.
Lexi and I went back to the house, we sat on the porch swing talked and laughed. It seemed as though we got along as if we had known one another for years.
She stated that she had to go inside and start dinner. I walked in with her and helped her prepare it. After we were finished she walked to the porch and rang the triangular bell. I continued to set the dining table.
Within a couple minutes, her brothers had come in and washed up. As we started to sit another larger man walked through the door. Lexi jumped up and gave him a huge hug as she wrapped her arms around him.
She introduced him as her father, this is Robert. I smiled and shook his hand. He washed up and sat down with us. As we sat and ate, we talked. He was curious to know all about me. I told him my story and he seemed intrigued that a girl from the big city wanted to be out here in the middle of nowhere.
We finished eating and the men headed back to the barn. Lexi and I stayed and cleaned up. It was nice to have someone around to talk to. It was very quiet and relaxing.
She poured some coffee and we went to sit on the porch swing. We talked about her life on the farm. She asked questions about city life and why I wanted to escape.
It was getting dark out so I excused myself. I just wanted a hot shower and to relax in bed. I gathered my robe and towel and turned the water on. As I stepped into the shower the hot water felt so comforting as it cascaded down my body.
It had felt like I was in there for hours. I stepped out of the shower and went to grab the towel. I was startled to see Brian, the youngest of the three standing at his doorway with the towel. I walked over to him and snatched the towel wrapping it around me.
