Thank you for the support and encouragement to keep going. I would like to thank J.Storm for all the hard work that they put into my continued creation. They have put a lot of work in their free time to make my story something more. Any mistakes or errors that may still be in here are entirely mine.
All Characters in this story are 18+ years old. This is going to continue to be a slow burn story with the intent of doing multiple chapters, having the main characters go through many steps heading to forever, maybe.
This is the third Chapter and feedback is most welcome. So please let me know what you think, I read all the comments and any PM's so feel free. One final note, voting does helps.
===============================
Edward drove down the road for a few minutes to the only other driveway on this side of the lake, the Carter's, friends of the family for many years. He pulled up to their winterized cottage. It was much like his, but a little more rustic looking. He got out and knocked on the door, an older man came up to the door, opening it.
"Ed! What are you doing here?" the man asked, surprised.
"Hi Bill. I thought I would come over to check on you two and make sure you're still doing OK out here by yourselves," Edward said, shaking the man's hand, as Bill invited him inside.
"Betty and I are doing fine, not much has changed in four weeks since you were last here checking on us." Bill said, then yelled out "Betty, Edward is here for a visit."
"Ed, what are you doing here, it's your vacation, and you never leave the cottage," said a short, gray haired lady coming around the corner of their living room.
"Hi Betty, how are you doing?" Edward asked, as she gave him a big hug.
"We are fine, as always, not much changes out here, which you know is the way we like it." She paused looking at him "but I don't think that you're doing OK."
"Betty, you seen him for five seconds, how do you know something is wrong?" Bill asked his wife.
Laughing, she patted him on the cheek, "Anyone with a brain can see that he's hurting! Edward, come on in and sit down and we can talk about it. Bill, this man needs a drink," Betty said, heading back to the living room with Edward in tow. They sat as Bill came in a few minutes later with three scotches, and took his regular old, beat up seat.
"OK, Ed did you want to do some small talk or get to the reason you have interrupted your vacation to visit us?" Betty asked in the way that only she could.
"Alright, you know me too well and for too long, I guess we can get to it." Edward chuckled, shaking his head.
"What are you two talking about?" Bill asked, looking back and forth between the other two.
"It's OK dear, try and keep up while Ed and I figure out what's wrong." Betty patted his leg, "OK Ed, get to it"
"Well, I met someone, well I guess that I kinda rescued her." Edward started. He went through how they met, where she was now, some of the background info that he knew. He told her about the swings in her reactions, the connection he was feeling with her, and even some of the fun time they had, but none of the details. He continued to tell them about the hot tub this morning, and her reaction to the events, but again left out some of the blow by blow details.
"Oh my, Ed," Betty said, her cheeks flushing a bit. Bill was just sitting there with a grin on his face. He was a good man, but a little show on the uptake.
"Well Ed, this thinking that you forced her into doing something she didn't want is bullshit," Betty said, surprising Edward with the swearing. This being only the second time he heard her swear, the first being when he told them about Jennifer.
"She clearly is going through some stuff, not saying that you're not. However, I would say she doesn't know exactly what she wants, but she definitely wanted what she took from you this morning," she said with a grin
"Well Betty, she definitely got something, and I didn't, ha ha." Edward shook his head.
"Ed, I think you need to talk to her, and tell her a few things, talking never hurts." Betty turned and said, "Bill, get us another scotch" looking at him expectantly. He stood and went to do as she asked.
"Betty, only if it were that easy, she flies off the handle with almost everything I say, always taking it the wrong way." Edwards sighed. "Then she seems to warm up to me, and we have a connection, then she pulls away when I think we are getting somewhere." Edward paused, taking the second drink from Bill.
"It's simple, son," Bill said, sitting down. "She has feelings for you, the hots for you, and is scared to act on either of them not to mention they scare the hell out of her. Nichole is worried that she is going to get hurt or hurt you. But I am telling you she wants to join you in bed." Bill finished his speech and took a drink, both Edward and Betty looking at him surprised.
"You sometimes surprise me love, but you have got it right. I was hoping that Ed would get there on his own though, '' she said with a smile.
"OK, OK, let me get this right. Betty, you want me to talk to her, and Bill you want me to bed her?" Edward laughed hard, and they both joined in.
"That's not quite how I think we would have put it, but ya, that sums it up," Betty said, still laughing and Bill nodded. Edward stayed for a bit longer, going over generally how things have been for the last few weeks since he visited last. He also filled in a few more details on Nichole, when they asked, just the basic catching up stuff.
"Well it's getting late, as much as I would like another scotch, but I should head home, to find out what's waiting for me there." Edward said, looking at his watch as he got up.
"Well Edward, off you go. Go get your filly that wants you as much as you want her." Betty smiled, and got up to give him a hug. After the hug, Edward headed to the door, determined to head home, but at the same time worried about what might be waiting for him. He thanked the Carter's, wished them well, and told them that he and maybe Nichole would be back over for a visit before he headed back to the vineyard.
As Edward pulled out of their driveway Betty turned to her husband. "Boy he's got it bad, I hope this one is better than Jennifer ended up being."
"Got what?" Bill looked at his wife like he had no idea what was going on, but she knew better.
In just a few minutes, Edward was sitting in his truck, just looking at his back door and not wanting to go inside, putting it off for a few more moments. He dreaded what could go wrong, and the whole thing reminded him of the time that he got a text message of 'We need to talk' from Jennifer.
