Matchmakers
Luke and Grace conspire to find matches for Jane and his father.
The three lovers had all slept together in Jane's bed. In the morning Jane made them breakfast and they sat at the kitchen table and ate.
Jane saw Luke looking at her and asked "What is it, Luke?"
"I feel like I should explain yesterday." Luke was still trying to figure out how.
"Are you two casual acquaintances?" Jane asked.
Grace and Luke looked at each other. It was Luke who spoke.
"I hope not."
Grace spoke for the first time. "Me either. I've never had this experience before but I feel like we have this connection."
"I saw it in your eyes. The first time our eyes met, right there at the library." Luke told her.
"So, you just met yesterday?" Jane had not been sure about that. It relieved her to know that Luke had not been lying to her.
"I don't know why I decided to come here. Desperation, I guess. But, somehow, after our last talk, I knew you would understand. I can hardly believe everything that's happened in the last few months. Thank you."
"You are very welcome, Luke. So, Grace, how do you feel this morning?"
"I feel like a new person. I mean, the sex was amazing, but it's deeper than just a sex fling. I feel connected to you in a deeper way." she said to Luke.
Luke addressed Jane again. "It's not September yet. But, remember when you said I would find someone? I just knew when I looked in Grace's eyes. Somehow, I just knew we had this bond. I hope you're not angry with me."
"I have no reason to be angry with you, Luke. I think it's sweet that you're concerned about me but remember what we talked about. I am happy for you. And for Grace. My advice to you is to take it slow. Don't rely on what you feel right now. You obviously are very compatible sexually, but if the connection is deeper than that you have to let it grow. Work at it together. Discover each other together. I hope we can all be very good friends."
Luke got up and went over to where Jane was sitting and bent over her from behind. He simply hugged her.
"I couldn't begin to imagine a better friend." Luke said. Grace saw the tears he tried to hide.
"You two really are close, aren't you?" she asked.
"We have shared something quite extraordinary, Grace. And I will always be a friend to you both. Now, you two get out of here. I have things to do."
The three said their goodbyes and Luke and Grace headed down the block to his house. The two walked hand in hand and talked about what Jane had said. They discovered that they only lived a few blocks apart. He asked if she was okay with meeting his father and she said "Sure."
Luke's father was in the living room reading the paper when they walked into the house through the front door. Matt looked up from his paper and greeted them.
"Hi, Luke." He waited for an introduction.
"Hi dad. This is Grace. Grace Livingston. Grace, this is my father." Luke impressed his father.
"Hello, Grace. It's nice to meet you."
"Hi, Mr. Brown. It's nice to meet you too." Grace said with that compelling smile.
"Please, call me Matt. So, is this ..."Matt started to ask Luke but thought better of it.
"Uh, no. It's complicated, dad. Let's just say that Grace and I hope to be together for a long time." Luke explained.
"Well, in that case maybe you should just call me Dad." Matt said with a laugh.
Grace smiled and said "Okay, Dad."
Matt liked her smile.
Luke and Grace spent most of the day at the house with Matt. They talked and got better acquainted with each other, shared lunch and did some chores. At 4 Grace said she really needed to go back to her apartment to feed her cat. Luke walked her there hand in hand like two lovers who had been together for years. It had been 28 hours.
Grace's apartment was small, typical of student apartments. She kept it neat, even her bedroom was neat. Luke thought about another round of sex but Grace said she had to study.
"Last night was incredible and I know I would enjoy it but tonight I need to study. Do you have classes tomorrow?"
"One. At ten."
"I don't. I'll be here waiting for you."
