Recap :
I Was Their Babysitter - pt. 12
As she sat in the car waiting to find her courage, MaeLyn Michaels gave herself a pep talk. "This is ridiculous. You're an independent woman, and you have every right to enter a store that sells sex stuff. Besides, no one around here knows you, not to mention on a random mid-weekday in July. No one would even notice you walking in. Just go! What's there to lose? You have plenty of money to pick up anything you see which might stimulate your sex life. And you deserve it, dammit! Get out there!" With a huff, MaeLyn sighed in defeat against her "better judgment."
"You're right," she resigned. "You're right! And I do deserve it!" With that last statement, she got out of the car and headed for the little shop.
"I.D. and a dollar," the man at the door requested. MaeLyn quickly pulled both out of her wallet and set them on the tray. "Come in," he invited her once he saw that both were legit.
"Hello," a blonde woman standing at the counter greeted her and waved her over. "Please forgive my doorman. He's all business, but he keeps things in order around here. My name is Agatha, but everyone just calls me Aggie. What brings you in today?"
As MaeLyn prepared to answer, she caught sight of another woman in the store. She was very lovely. A sudden fluttering within her belly suddenly awakened in a way MaeLyn hadn't felt in years. Huh...
"Oh, sorry," she quickly apologized when she found herself staring. "I'm MaeLyn. I, uh... I've decided to try some new things. I have never been in a shop like this. I was just curious. And I'd like to see what's out there to..."
"Stimulate your needs?" Aggie asked and smiled. "Don't we all?" she added and winked. "Well, I'm happy to answer any questions or show you around, but I understand if you just want to take a look yourself before you find yourself needing to ask anything. There's no time limit. Please walk around, familiarize yourself with what we have, and feel free to ask as you see fit. I'll be around."
"Thank you," MaeLyn offered and nodded as she turned to head for the closest aisle. The woman she'd noticed earlier had made her way closer, so when MaeLyn chose an aisle, she put on her bravest face and approached her. "Hi there. I'm MaeLyn. Nothing like meeting a beautiful woman in a store like this, right?"
Where had that come from?
"Just what crossed my mind as well," the woman answered. "Hi, I'm Shawna. Yes, this is a first for me. I heard Aggie tell you about this place. Never been here either?"
"No, but there's no time like the present to try new things, I suppose," MaeLyn suggested. "I was widowed ten years ago and have been putting off getting back out there. What about you?"
Well, divorced when my son was only three," Shawna admitted. "We had only married because we got pregnant, and soon, well, it turned out that I wasn't what he had in mind for his forever. He doesn't even see his kid. So, my son became my sole purpose in life. Now that he's 19, I've decided to do some things for me again."
"That's long time to wait," MaeLyn noted. "Say, would you like to go grab a coffee and come back a little later to check out the store?"
"I'd love that," Shawna admitted and reached out to take MaeLyn's hand. "That's really nice of you."
"Well, you seem like the type of person I'd like to get to know better," MaeLyn responded and pointed towards the door. To the doorman, she continued speaking. "We'd like to step out for a while. Mind if we get those IDs back? We're good for it." After looking over at Aggie for her approval, he nodded.
"We're open til 9PM," Aggie offered and winked at them.
"That will give us just enough time to scratch the surface, but we'll be back," MaeLyn assured her. "Thanks."
As they walked to the nearby coffee place, they continued sharing about themselves. Several times throughout their date, each would reach over and touch the hand of the other woman. Neither had felt things like those they were each feeling for one another in too long, and it was lovely to get to share in such a way.
"Um, may I be frank about something?" MaeLyn requested.
"Sure," Shawna responded as she slid her finger down MaeLyn's hand.
"I appreciate the mutual attraction here, but I'm a rather older woman than yourself," MaeLyn admitted. "I have grandchildren about the age of your son, in fact. My sexy bits aren't near as sexy these days. Shouldn't you be looking out for a woman of your own age, or perhaps younger?"
"If I simply wanted someone my own age, I could just grope myself," Shawna retorted. "And I do have access to someone, some
people
, actually, my own age. I'm pleased with them plenty. I didn't set out to meet someone today, but it appears that those little fluttering butterflies that people often call 'hormones' which live in my nether region sure seem to have taken a liking to you."
"You have that too, huh?" MaeLyn asked and set her hand right on top of Shawna's hand. "Because I haven't been with a woman in a long time, but I'm thinking it might be like riding a bike. And I'd sure like to see if that's true." MaeLyn covered her face with her other hand. "Is this crazy?" she whispered. "I only wanted to dip my toe in the waters of sexuality again. You're like the ocean I've only seen from afar other than playing in it once or twice when I was much younger. I can't describe it, but I feel like I'd like to set sail with you and never look back."
"It's certainly crazy, but gosh, MaeLyn, if there's a reason to be crazy, I'd say this was it," Shawna answered. "Wanna go check out that store with a new purpose, and then maybe we could head back to my place to see about using our new purchases?"
"I've wanted nothing more in too many years," MaeLyn sighed and stood up.
