I belong to a social group that occasionally has a big get-together. This was one of those times. Our group would head to a local state park that had a lake. Normally these parties are low key and everyone seems to have a good time. I had just broken up with a woman I had been seeing for over a year. I was a bit down and out but I figured getting together with my friends might cheer me up.
Problems started right from the beginning. One of the older couples, Joy and Ben, were squabbling with each other. That always put a damper on the party. I decided to take a walk on one of the trails to clear my head. I followed this path that led down to the water. There were rocks and boulders close to the water that you could sit on. I sat down on a medium sized rock and listened as the waves slapped against the shore.
I must have been lost in my thoughts. I heard the crackling of twigs or branches. I turned around to see Joy walking towards me. Joy had to have been in her mid-fifties, almost thirty years older than myself. She was a petite blond who was still quite attractive. She walked over to where I was setting.
"Do you mind if I join you?" She asked.
I pointed to the rock I was on and she sat down.
"I guess you heard our little argument?" She said to me.
I just nodded to Joy.
"Sorry about that, I hate to fight in front of other people," she told me.
Joy was sitting close to me on this rock. Our shoulders were touching. I wondered what was up with her. We hadn't been particularly close when our group of people got together. She asked me if I was attached to anyone. I told Joy that I had just broken up with a long time girlfriend. That seemed to bring a smile to Joy's face. The next part I wasn't counting on.
