The sound of my cell pinging startled me. I have been knee deep in proposals and quotes this whole week I had barely had a chance to look up from my laptop and I could feel my neck muscles screaming at me by this point.
I turned my cell over to discover another text from Adam. It had been two weeks since our rendezvous but deep down I just didn't think it could work. I mean, the man is so far out of my league. How am I supposed to keep up with his good looks and perfect life. And that's not even to mention my baggage.
I mean, He would surely run for the hills if he were to find out I have a teenage son. Just like they all do.
Just the thought of having that conversation gave me anxiety. One of the main reasons I avoided dating in the first place. I just hadn't found anyone even worth that conversation to be honest.
I opened the text.
"Why are you ignoring me Michelle? YOU BETTER ANSWER ME OR THERE WILL BE CONEQUENSES!"
Fuck, those words alone sent shivers down my spine in anticipation.
Why can't I just have a fuck buddy, I mean, what's the harm right? NO! I am too old for that. Way past all the drama and emotions that come with it.
I had hoped by now he had gotten the message. Clearly not. And truly I hate playing games, so let me man up and just tell him straight.
"Hi Adam,. Listen, thank you so much for the wonderful time we had shared. But I really just don't see this going anywhere. Truly, it's for the best. Michelle."
There, that should do it.
It took me 5 minutes to press send. A deep pit fell in my stomach. My whole body was screaming at me not too. But I had my fun and its time to get back to my real life. No ways I could live in this fantasy world. I was way too boring and busy to be fair.
An hour had passed and still no reply. I checked my cell one last time just to be sure.
I pouted. "Mission succeeded." I muttered to myself.
I made my way to the office kitchen to make a cup of tea to clear my head and have a break before my last meeting for the day. Stopping by my assistant Becky's desk.
"Becks, gonna make some tea, would you like a cup?"
Becky's face fell. "No, thank you. I cant seem to find the file on the Mac Miller place. The meeting is in an hour miss Vale and I'm tearing my hair out here." Her eyes were pleading with me.
I couldn't help but chuckle. "Don't stress Becks, there is copy in archives, isle two, I think."
I noticed quickly that the poor girl was overwhelmed.
"Tell you what. I'll go grab it on my way to the kitchen. You finish up that last draft I sent you and bring it right over." I smiled to her.
Relief flooded her face. "Thank you so much. I'm so sorry, I feel so out of place today."
"don't worry about it Becks." I winked at her and made my way down the corridor into the archives room.
There you are. I came down from my tippy toes after grabbing the file.
The door snapping closed behind me made me jump.
I turned and immediately my heart stopped.
