When Jeremy Lucien, formerly of Petit Goave, Haiti, embraced Islam while studying at the University of Minnesota, he experienced a brand new world. Jeremy's good friend Abdullah Ali was present when the young Haitian man converted, and afterwards, they went to celebrate. That's how Jeremy met Adara Ali, Abdullah's mother. The tall, curvaceous Somali Muslim matriarch prepared a feast worthy of a king for her son Abdullah and his good friend Jeremy. Yup, Jeremy now loves being a Muslim and goes to the Masjid every Friday.
The celebration was short-lived, for Abdullah would soon leave town. Jeremy felt saddened by his good friend's departure. Abdullah was one of the first people Jeremy met when he arrived in Minnesota, USA, from the Republic of Haiti. In spite of their cultural differences, the young Haitian man and the young Somali man became best friends. It was Abdullah who taught Jeremy about Islam, and changed his world. Jeremy would miss Abdullah dearly, but traveling is part of life for black immigrants living in North America...
"Jeremy, my brother, I'm going to spend a semester at the University of Istanbul in Turkey, check up on my Hooyo ( mother ) every now and then, please," Abdullah asked, and Jeremy nodded firmly. The two young black men hugged in the airport terminal, and then parted ways. Jeremy headed to the plane, which would leave Minnesota for Europe, and then finally reach the City of Istanbul, Capital of Turkey. Jeremy would miss his good buddy Abdullah sorely. The two young black men were quite close. There's a special bond of brotherhood between Haitian men and Somali men, let no one tell you otherwise...
