When she arrived at the office building, she wasn't quite sure where she was supposed to go so she stood there for a few minutes, nervous and confused. She then noticed a tall man coming her way. Ashlynn quickly looked him over. He was tall, about 6'7", thin and lanky. Dark buzzed hair and bluish gray eyes. He saw Ashlynn and came over to her.
"You look lost. Are you looking for someone?" he asked her, smiling at her.
She looked up at the man. "Actually I am. I'm new and starting here today. So I need to get to HR to sign and fill out paperwork."
"I can take you there. Follow me. I'm Oliver by the way. You can call me Ollie or Oliver, I don't mind." He introduced himself.
"I'm Ashlynn. Nice to meet you, Ollie."
"So, are you from around here?" he asked her.
"No. I'm from Redmire, about 4 hours away. I've only been here for two weeks."
"I'll show you around here and get you all set up with HR."
Ollie showed her around the building. "We're a full service PR firm. Event planning is just one of the many things we do here. And here's Ian. He's our HR manager so he has all the paperwork and forms for you to fill out and when you're done, I'll show you around."
After signing all her paperwork, Ollie took her on a tour of the building. As he showed her around, she noticed everyone looking at her, making her blush. The room was divided into spacious cubicles. Some girls were standing around talking but stopped and looked worriedly at Ollie. Ollie paid no attention to them. He introduced her to a few people. When she asked him about the other girls, he responded, "Nobody important."
As they got off the elevator on the third floor, Ollie continued to show her around. "I work up here on this floor. So if you ever need help, you will know where my desk is." Ollie informed her, showing her his cubicle.
"And this here is Simon's office. He's the manager up here."
At the mention of Simon's name, she looked up and felt herself blush as he appeared in front of her. "Simon." There he was again, Simon. And right in front of her AND in the same building.
"Ashlynn. Good to see you again. Are you getting settled in?" Before Ashlynn could respond, Simon looked up to see someone come up behind her. Sorry I have to run, I have a meeting to attend to. Let's talk later, OK?" Simon said, before he walked away with another colleague.
Ashlynn watched him walk away in complete disbelief. She couldn't believe that she was working in the same workplace that Simon was at. "Zoe's going to love this." she thought to herself.
"So, how do you know Simon?" Ollie asked her curiously.
"Oh, we met at a convention."
"Since you're not from around here, maybe sometime I can show you around, point out all the cool places." Ollie grinned at her.
"That would be great!"
Ashlynn's first work week went by in a whirl. She was sad that she barely saw Simon. She would see him occasionally but everytime she looked at him, he would quickly turn away. Confused and hurt, she decided to say yes to Ollie when he asked her out.
Ollie took her out to a popular Mexican restaurant for dinner. Ashlynn took a mental note that he held the door open for her.
"So what's Redmire like? As big as Clearwood?" Ollie asked her.
Ashlynn laughed. "No. About half the population here. It's a quiet town but there are a fair amount of things to do. My best friend still lives there but I'm hoping she'll move here once her lease is up. What about you?"
"I live just a few minutes away from here. But I know my way around Clearwood like the back of my hand." he laughed. "You've got the best guide showing you around the city." he told her, smiling.
"That's good to know!" she smiled at him, enjoying his company.
After dinner, Ollie showed her around the city, pointing out restaurants, bars and shops that he thought she might like before taking her back to her apartment.
"Thank you for dinner and for showing me around. That was fun!"
"I'm glad you had a good time. On Fridays, a bunch of us go to a bar after work. We drink, dance, and play pool. If you want to come along, you're more than welcome to." Ollie offered.
"I would love to, thank you!"
"I'll text you tomorrow, ok?"
"That would be great!" Unsure what to do next, she leaned over and gave him a hug and a quick kiss on the cheek and then got out of the car.
That night she laid in bed and thought of Simon. She imagined it was Simon she was kissing and not Ollie. She thought Ollie was really attractive but she pined for Simon and wondered what his problem was.
Ashlynn was awakened the next day by Zoe calling her.
"Honey! How was your first week?" Zoe inquired excitedly.
"Uh, it went by really fast. Get this-Simon works there as well. On a different floor."
"What?! Simon? Mysterious Englishman Simon? OMG Ash, that is like fate!" Zoe yelled excitedly.
Ashlynn sighed. "I barely saw him at all this past week and when I would try to catch his eye, he turned away from me. I told him which apartment I was in and so far he hasn't come up to visit."
"Honey, he will. It's only the first week. Maybe he's actually been busy. Maybe he didn't want you to bug you too much on your first week." Zoe suggested, hearing how sad Ashlynn was. "Don't give up just yet."
"I haven't. I actually went on a date. Well, kind of a date. We went out for dinner and he showed me around the city."
"Look at you! Is this someone from your work?" Zoe asked eagerly.
"Yes. He's quite hot. Really tall, dark buzzed hair, goatee, bluish grey eyes. He seems really nice."
"So no fucking as of right now?"
"Zoe! No, of course not!" Ashlynn sputtered embarrassed.
"I'm just kidding you. So do you have another date set up yet?"
"No not as of today. And I'm fine with that. I don't really want to be in a relationship unless it's with ......" her voice trailed off.
"Honey, I know And I do hope things will work out."
