When Tim and Joanne started dating in high school, they should have known their relationship was unique. Cheating was the primary reason most of their friends relationship crumbled. Neither Tim nor Joanne shared the taboo view of having fun with others. By the time they graduated, each had fooled around with other people and shared all the details with each other; in fact, the sharing of the details got both of their juices flowing.
Tim didn't go to college but was fortunate enough to land a great paying job in the auto sector. While he worked, Joanne attended a school out of town working on a degree in English. When Joanne came home for holidays, the majority of the visit was spent in bed either making love or prodding one another for all the glorious details.
The year Joanne graduated she was 23 years old; to celebrate her accomplishment, Tim rented a trailer a few hours north of the city for a long weekend. Against all odds, they loved each other more than anyone could have ever imagined. While out in a canoe on the lake, Tim stopped paddling.
Joanne turned around to see why she was doing all the work, "Am I the only one paddling now?"
"One second!" Tim was turned around digging in his pack while Joanne watched curiously. When he finally turned around he had a strange look on his face.
"Are you okay?" Joanne noted a slight nervousness.
"Joanne..." Tim's voice cracked, "I want to be your wife."
Joanne laughed, "What?"
"Shit." Tim shook his head trying to fix his garbled words, "I want you to be my wife."
"Is this real?" Joanne looked on in disbelief.
Tim smiled awkwardly, "Will you marry me Joanne?"
"Yes!" Joanne stood, the canoe tilted and she fell into the lake with a scream.
Joanne was thankful of the close proximity to shore and stood waist deep with a stupid grin on her face, "Still want to marry this?" She pointed at herself.
Tim stared at her like she was a goddess, "It will take a lot more than seaweed in your hair to scare me away!"
They both laughed and headed to shore. Once the canoe was secure, Tim turned to Joanne and grabbed her left hand; as he stared into her eyes he slipped a solitaire diamond ring on her delicate finger. "I'm glad I was holding on to this tightly when you decided you needed a swim!"
Tim felt his clothes begin to dampen as he held Joanne close and kissed her. The following fall they were married before God, their family and friends; it was a simple yet elegant ceremony. Thanks to the generosity of Tim's parents, a limo whisked them away from their reception to begin their honeymoon journey.
