When my youngest son left for college, my husband moved into his crash pad in the city full time. It wasn't a surprise; he had been withdrawing for years. It still, however, stung. I went from a busy house wife with 2 sons and a husband to care for to being more or less a very young retired person.
For the first month or two I sulked. Since we didn't divorce there was no big announcement. In truth our friends didn't really know, or at least they didn't let on that they did.
I started going to the gym to pass the time. I had always worked out, but now at 43, I got serious about it. I hired a personal trainer and nutritionist; I made my husband pay for it. The gym became my sanctuary. A yoga class in the morning and a training session in the afternoon, my body started to change, my confidence started to come back, and I started to get a lot of looks from men again. I loved it!
I'm on the taller side, blonde hair, blue eyes. For my 40th I convinced my husband to get me a breast job and I may have gone too big with DD's but was worried that I needed them that big to match my expanding body. Now that my body was snapping back to its younger days, I worried they looked like a midlife crisis.
One day on the way to the gym, I received a text from Steve my trainer.
"I hope you don't mind but I double booked today. My friend Tiffany will be joining us"
I hated it already. For one, I had a massive crush on Steve and cherished our one on one time. Beyond that Tiffany was my husband's mistress's name. I considered throwing a fit. I considered canceling. If I had anything else to do, I would have. Unfortunately, at this point, the gym was my life.
I arrived at the gym (I always wore my work out gear there) and found Steve right away. He could probably see I was annoyed and apologized about double booking immediately. He then promised that Tiffany (that name just went right through me) was going to be fun and not a distraction. I found myself getting a little jealous. Steve was in his mid-twenties and gorgeous. Over six feet, muscular but not too much, Tattoos but not too much, with the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen. I had fantasized about him constantly over the past months. Something about how he said her name drove me nuts.
