...
"Roger's late," said Mike. "He's never late."
"He's usually the first to arrive with a twelve pack," George replied.
"But never a good choice of beer," said Tom.
They were getting the room ready for their monthly poker game. This time it was at Mike's house, in his furnished basement. They waited for their friend, Roger, for as long as they could. They texted and called him several times, but didn't get a word. They even texted his wife, Maya, who replied that she hadn't heard from him in hours.
They decided to just start the game without Roger; if he came in later, he would just have to wait until the next hand to join them. George was dealing out the cards when Roger finally showed up; they all greeted him, but he said nothing to anybody. He was looking very angry, and the group looked at him with great concern.
"Something wrong, Roger?" Tom asked.
"Why don't you tell me what's wrong, Tom?" Roger asked aggressively.
All three men at the poker table looked at each other, wondering what was going on.
"Roger, you seem very upset right now," said Mike. "Why don't you sit down, have a beer, and tell us what's going on?"
"What's going on is I've been hearing things about our good friend, Tom, over here," said Roger. "Things about him and my wife!"
Tom stood up from the poker table, getting himself ready for what might happen. He had never seen Roger so mad as this. But whenever he did see a man behaving this way, it usually meant trouble was going to follow.
"Listen, Roger, I don't know what you heard--"
"I've heard plenty, Tom!" Roger yelled at him.
The other two guys stood up from the table and got in between Roger and Tom. They didn't want to fight Roger, but they felt they may have to subdue him if things got out of hand.
"Did you guys know about this too?" Roger asked. "Did you guys know the truth about him and my wife, and never told me."
"We may have heard things too," said Mike.
"But we can settle this calmly," said George.
"Tell me the truth, Tom!" Roger yelled at him. "Did you fuck my wife?"
"Come on, man. Don't do this," Tom pleaded.
"Answer the question! Have you ever fucked my wife?!"
"I knew this was going to come out eventually," said Tom before taking a deep breath. "I'm sorry, Roger, but I have never fucked your wife."
"YOU FUCKING LIAR!!"
"No, Roger, it's true," Tom continued. "We never did anything together, not so much as a handjob. In fact, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but I don't think she has ever fucked around with anybody else besides you."
Roger lunged at him, but George and Mike held him back.
"You need to calm down, Roger," said Mike.
"Seriously, man. I can understand why you're mad, but you need to stop this now," said George.
Roger stopped struggling with his friends and took a few steps back.
"He just insulted my wife by saying she doesn't fuck around with other people," said Roger. "She's a good woman, that can't be true."
"It is true, Roger. It's true because..." George trailed off for a moment, getting himself ready to make his revelation. "I also never fucked your wife."
"You're married, George. Of course, you wouldn't fuck Maya," said Roger.
"No, Roger, I mean from back when I was single. I never fucked her back then, either."
"What?" said Roger, looking very surprised.
Mike chimed in. "And while we're making confessions. I know of at least three other guys she claimed to have had sex with but never have."
Roger fell silent and sat down. He had never felt so terrible in his life.
"How can she do this to me?" Roger asked.
"I'm sorry, man. But it's about time you knew the truth," said Tom. "You have a faithful wife."
LATER THAT NIGHT
Maya was getting her popcorn ready for her night alone watching Netflix. Like many women these days, she enjoys watching true crime shows and was looking forward to watching the Dahmer mini-series on Netflix. Roger doesn't like watching those shows, so she only watches them when he's not around. He doesn't mind since he's not interested in them anyway, much like how Maya doesn't watch any sports with him. They both enjoy Marvel movies and TV shows, so they always make sure to watch those together.
She was about to start the first episode when Roger suddenly came in through the front door. He slammed the door behind him and marched right into the living room, where she was sitting.
"What's wrong, honey?" Maya asked.
"Tell me, sweetie," he called her that with a sarcastic tone. "Where were you three nights ago?"
"You know where I was, I told you. I was getting my pussy pounded by Tom."
"I suppose you're going to say he was a great fuck, right?" Roger asked.
"One of the best I ever had. In fact, I refused to leave until I got a second round with him."
"You lying, bitch!" Roger yelled at her. "Tom confessed everything to me; you too never fooled around together."
"Well, he's lying. I don't know why he would say such a thing. I probably fucked him more than any of the other guys I fool around with."
