Chapter 3
The Long Road Home
As the plane started its descent Claudia could feel the knot in her stomach start to tighten. The guilt from her actions had now fully caught up to her, and she wanted to cry right then and there. But she held it in so as to not make a scene in the airplane. When she finally landed, Claudia decided to wait in her seat for as long as possible before leaving. She dreaded finally facing the consequences of her actions.
She was lost in thought the whole time. 'Is Stephan going to be here when I land. How can I even bring myself to look him in the face if he is? After all I did, do I even deserve to?'
Grabbing her carry-on she finally decided to leave her seat as the last few passengers were leaving. She slowly walked along the long hallways of the airport as she made her way to passport control, baggage claim and customs. As she stood there waiting for her bags to come out, she was thinking about the possibility of her being pregnant with David's offspring.
'I can't believe I let David cum inside me, hell I even begged for it the last time. What if he got me pregnant? Stephan has been asking me to start a family with him for so long and now... I let a total stranger breed me. Why? Why did I do that? And worst of all, why does it make me feel so hot just thinking about it? I need to stop at a pharmacy, I really need a morning after pill.' Her thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of her luggage.
After grabbing her bags she made her way through customs and toward the exit. The closer she got to the exit, the more nervous she got. 'What if Stephan is not there?' was all she could think about.
As Claudia made her way out of the airport, and to the pick-up area, she frantically started to look around for her husband. She felt another panic attack starting to creep in when she didn't see their car anywhere. She almost fell to her knees and started to cry, when she heard a car horn. She turned around and behind a white airport van she saw a familiar car. It was Stephan - he did come to pick her up after all! Claudia felt as if the weight of the world was taken off her shoulders. She felt an unimaginable sense of joy engulf her completely.
As he drove closer to her, Stephan felt a strange mix of emotions. He was without a doubt very angry at his unfaithful wife, but still excited to see her after her trip. He was also nervous and very jealous about what had happened, and what more might have happened between her and David. And perhaps other men - had she even told him half of what she had done? As he parked the car at the arrival door, he saw her walking towards him, looking as beautiful as ever.
Claudia felt a rush of relief as she saw her husband in the driver's seat, waiting for her. She could not wait to see him, she truly did miss him very much. But she felt guilty and anxious, not knowing what to say to him. Stephan stepped out of the car, opened the trunk and started walking towards Claudia to pick up her bags. As he approached her, she gave him a tight hug. Stephan quickly broke away in an awkward fashion, as he grabbed the luggage and placed it in the trunk. They both stood there in complete silence for a moment until he signaled her to get in the car.
As they got in Claudia turned to her husband. "I'm so sorry Baby. I made a huge mistake. I shouldn't..." was all she could say before Stephan cut her off.
"How was your flight?" Stephan asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
"It...It was good," Claudia replied, avoiding eye contact.
"Did you have your fill of fun on the trip?" Stephan asked in an ironic tone, unable to hide his anger.
Claudia took a deep breath and looked up at Stephan. "Stephan, I'm so sorry. I truly am. I have no idea what got into me."
"David! That's what got into you!" Stephan angrily interrupted.
Claudia started to cry as she finally fully realized the damage she had caused in their relationship. "There's something I need to tell you," she said hesitantly.
Stephan's heart raced as he sensed that something was wrong. "What is it?" he asked, trying to remain calm.
"I slept with David again after we last spoke," Claudia blurted out, tears welling up in her eyes.
Stephan's heart sank as he heard those words. He could not believe what he'd just heard, but he tried to remain composed. "I see," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I'm sorry," Claudia said, sobbing. "I never meant for it to happen. It just did. I felt like I had this pressure growing inside me for all these years, and it all just finally exploded in one big eruption. I couldn't control nor stop myself... I love you so much."
Stephan looked her in the eyes. "I love you too," he said. "But right now I feel like I'm looking at a total stranger. My loving wife is nowhere to be found. And I'm not sure if I'll ever be available to forgive this person sitting next to me."
As they drove off the car was as silent as a graveyard. Not a word was spoken, and the only sound that cut through the deafening silence was Claudia's sobs as she quietly cried in her seat.
Her mind was racing throughout the drive. She knew she had to take care of the situation looming over her, with the possible pregnancy. So as they got closer to the city she asked Stephan to stop at a pharmacy on the way home. Stephan nodded and pulled into a nearby one.
Claudia quickly made her way to the pharmacist's counter, feeling nervous and anxious. She asked the pharmacist for a box of Plan B, and headed to the cashier to pay. As she waited in line, her mind was troubled with thoughts of what the result of this trip might be. She was both excited and terrified at the prospect of being pregnant with David's child.
When it was her turn, she paid, and walked out of the pharmacy, feeling like all eyes were on her. Stephan was waiting for her in the car and she climbed in, clutching the bag tightly.
"Everything okay?" Stephan asked, noticing the worried expression on her face.
Claudia took a deep breath and looked at him. "Yes, everything is fine. I just wasn't feeling well, and needed something for my stomach," she said, unable to tell her husband the real reason.
Claudia felt guilty but was unable to stop herself from lying. Stephan took a moment before placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It's okay, and... Claudia, we'll figure this whole thing out in time. Whatever happens, I'll be here for you," he said, clearly saddened by the current situation.
Claudia nodded, feeling grateful for her husband's support. As they drove home, she could not help but wonder what the future held for her and the possible new life growing inside of her.
Stephan carried Claudia's luggage into the house as Claudia followed behind him. She felt a cacophony of emotions, from excitement to guilt for what had happened in Cabo.
