CHAPTER FOUR
BRING OUT THE BONES
After we all sat back down at the game table, I looked at my watch. To my surprise it was almost 4:00 AM. The sun would be coming up soon, and I had a date to play golf. I met Mike a couple of weeks earlier during my lunch break. We hit it off pretty good. He was a member of the Twisted Pine Golf & Country Club.
The club was located about two miles from our house on the top and side of Twisted Pine Mountain. The course was supposed to be an excellent condition and a real challenge. It was a mountain style course with a couple of lakes, creeks, and lots of sand traps.
I had mentioned to Mike that Sally and I were looking for a club to join. Somewhere she and the kids could spend their summer days. Mike told me Sally could ride along during the round and while we were there, we could have lunch. That way Sally could see what the club was all about.
When we were all settled at the game table again, I said it was late and we would only have time for one or two more games before calling it a night. Everyone agreed. I think we all wanted to be done by 6:00 AM.
"We only have two more game papers in the jar," Sally said. "I'll pick one now, and the one that's left will be the last game. Does that sound alright to everyone?"
We were all in agreement, so Sally reached in and drew out the second to last paper.
"The name of the game is bones," Sally exclaimed. "I'll go upstairs and get the good dominos. Jim and I recently bought a really good set of double nines."
While Sally was gone I fixed a pot of coffee, and Kevin filled his two pipes. Dave, with Harold's help, cleaned up all the mess we had made earlier in the night.
"Sally seems to be taking a long time coming back," Dave said. "I'll run up and see what the hold up is."
Before Dave could get up from his chair, Sally opened the game room door and walked in. When I saw Sally I knew why she had taken so long to get the dominos. Sally also changed outfits and freshened up. She looked great.
