Road Trip to Heaven
I was asked to provide a quote for some work in Ann Arbor, Michigan recently which required an overnight stay along the way since my studio is in Tennessee. Even though it meant a break in a very busy schedule I jumped at the chance because I like the solitude of driving alone for a day or so and then a nice hotel room stay. What the hell, the client was paying for it so that was even better. Besides, maybe I'd make a friend in the process.
I rented a car, also paid by the client, packed a couple of things, told my employees what to work on in my absence and set off first thing in the morning. It seemed to be about a nine hour drive, a long day of driving. But the weather was nice, it was springtime, so what the hell.
Once I got to Ann Arbor I began to look for a decent hotel to stay in, preferably something close to food. I found a Holiday Inn Express after a short drive up and down a main drag. And right next door was a Chinese restaurant. I checked in, took my bag and a big bottle of wine I'd brought with me up to my room. I dropped the stuff off and headed back down the elevator and out the door towards the restaurant.
I was seated in no time at a table toward the back. The fact that I was alone didn't seem to be a problem. As a matter of fact, there was a woman sitting by herself a few tables away from me. I checked out the menu and quickly decided and the waiter was back with some water. I order a simple chicken fried rice with a couple of eggrolls. A few tables away from me the solo woman was also just ordering her dinner.
I checked my phone to see if there were any calls or emails I had missed and there weren't so that was good. I guess the girls at the studio had no problems today. Dinner came in short order and I dug into the tasty dishes. I noticed the woman at the table by herself had gotten up to hit the rest room while she waited for her meal. She passed by my table as she went and flashed me a pleasant smile on her way by. She was middle aged, like me, I'd guess around forty-three or so. She was probably 5 foot 5 and slightly curvy in jeans and a loose-fitting top. Brown hair down to just below her shoulders and slightly wavy.
Her dinner came while she was just on her way back to her table and I couldn't help but notice her very shapely ass. I guess I notice these things because I look for them. She was wearing ankle booties with low heels that just pushed her ass in the right direction. She got back to her table and began her dinner.
She sat at an angle to my table so I could see her in profile but she couldn't notice that I was checking her out. She had a lovely neck which I could see when she brushed her hair back occasionally. Her lips were shaped in a pleasant half smile and she had a very cute upturned nose. Her cheekbones were quite pronounced and I decided for myself that this woman was extremely attractive and confident in her own skin. Her top, although loose did nothing to hide the fact that her breasts were about 34B or so. Even though she wasn't trying she was getting to me.
Even from where I sat, I could see a ring on her left hand and I mused slightly about why she was alone. All kinds of explanations for that I suppose. A day of shopping, a quick dinner and then back to work, husband out of town. Who knows?
Anyway, we both finished about the same time and asked for the check and after fishing in my wallet for a cash tip I got up and headed for the cash register. She was doing the same thing and actually reached the register just before I did. She turned to look at me and smiled that pleasant smile again and I smiled back and said, "Pretty good food here."
She said, "It was, and good prices too."
She was heading for the door as I was finishing up paying and also headed for the door. She headed out across the parking lot which was adjacent to the parking lot for the Holiday Inn. I was only about ten feet behind her when I stumbled on a stone and she turned and saw me. I said, "Don't worry, I'm not following you. I'm headed for the hotel there," and I pointed.
She smiled and said, "Oh, so am I. I guess we're neighbors for the evening, right?"
I said, "Well, it seems like a friendly neighborhood so far," and I smiled at her. I had caught up to her by now and we were pretty much side by side by the time we got to the door of the hotel. I pulled the door open for her and she nodded as she entered.
We both headed to the elevator and as we got in I asked her, "What floor?"
She said, "Three, thank you."
I laughed, "Oh, me too." And we both smiled.
I held the elevator door for her and we both headed in the same direction down the hall. She stopped at Room 346 which was right next to mine at 348. I said, "Well. Geez, we really are neighbors this evening. I feel like I should invite you in. I have some wine if you would care to join me. I assure you I'm not the axe murdering type."
She laughed a bit and seemed to mull that over for 2 seconds and then said, "Very kind of you. I think I would like that. I don't have an early day tomorrow so why not, right?"
"Indeed," I replied. And I fished for my key card. I let us in, turned on the lights and turned and said, "Where are my manners? My name is David," and I held out my hand.
She smiled, took my hand and said, "Mine is Donna, pleased to meet you David."
As is the case with many of these hotels, there were two chairs, one upholstered and one desk chair. I motioned to the upholstered chair and said with a laugh, "Have a seat right here Donna and I will fetch the fine crystal." I stepped over to the sideboard and unwrapped a couple of plastic cups and unscrewed the fine vintage dry red wine and poured us each a generous glass. We toasted to "The Neighborhood".
She said, "So what is the nature of your visit to Ann Arbor." I explained that I was here to look at some work and briefly explained my line of work and told her where I was from.
And I asked her what brought her here. And she got a dreamy look about her face and said, "A bit of an emotional walkabout, I guess you could say. I'm at the point of life where I think many people begin to reassess priorities and paths forward. So, I'm taking my time and taking it all in stride. That's why I'm sitting here right now in a hotel room with a very pleasant man that I hardly know at all."
I said, "I see your ring. Can I assume you're married?"
She nodded, a more serious look on her face. She looked at me and said, "I'm not the object of his affections these days. I have no kids so I thought I'd explore a bit you know?
I looked at her, she had such lovely brown eyes, and said, "Well, I've never been married but I'm pretty sure it's not a good idea to leave a beautiful, sexy woman like you dissatisfied."
She smiled, laugh lines and all, and said, "Thank you David, that's very flattering, but I guess I don't feel that sexy because of that. But maybe you could help give me more confidence."
I got up to retrieve the bottle from the sideboard to pour us some more wine. She got up also and brought her glass over for a refill. She brought her hand to the small of my back as I poured and she looked up at me as I put the bottle back down. I looked down at her and put my glass down and reached my hand around the back of her head and leaned in for a kiss on the lips. Her lips met mine and she moaned softly as I caressed the back of her neck. We kissed for a long minute and her lips parted and my tongue sought hers and found the tip and flicked it back and forth.
She put her glass on the sideboard and put her arms around my neck as she pulled my body to hers. I could feel her breasts against my chest as I wrapped my arms around her and caressed her back up to her neck and then down to her waist and I massaged her at her beltline and slipped my hand under her loose fitting top and she broke our kiss and looked at me and whispered, "Will you fuck me David? It's been a while and I've finally found a person I want to make love to me. I think I'm looking at a man who knows how to make love to a woman."
