Rachel's Slow Seduction
This is a fictional story but there are elements of reality within it. Every LW story probably has some facet of the author within it unless it is set in a galaxy far, far away. I hope you enjoy the read. I'm leaving comments available but I'm not interested in nasty, go to FETTISH if you want to be nasty.

Rachel had been working for the company for about 16 months when a new district manager was brought in to oversee her store and 17 others in the area. Ben was a bit older than the previous district manager (D.M.) by about 20 years. Trevor had been 34 with a Business Admin degree (Bachelor's degree) where Ben had gone from a sales associate to assistant manager to store manager to D.M. over the last 25 years. He had also gotten a Bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix to augment his work experience.
According to Rachel, Ben was 56, tall at 6"1 and slender at about 185 pounds. He had a really nice smile and a pleasant baritone speaking voice. Rachel told me that Juliet, the regional manager (R.M.), had brought him around to each store to introduce him to the various managers and any assistants that were present at the time. Rachel said he had a good hand shake, not too strong and not at all weak.
Ben had made 2 visits to the store within 3 weeks and then started coming by slightly more frequently, every week or occasionally twice within a week. He also texted the group with notices and questions to be covered on his next visit. Later I learned that by the time 4 weeks had gone by 3 managers had been terminated for not following Ben's 'suggestions' or not following through quickly enough.
The last week of August Rachel came home and she hadn't eaten any of her 'lunch' and I mentioned it. She had a funny look and said, "Ben came by and after walking the store he said 'Rachel you're doing a good job but I've noticed the alarm gets turned off at 4:30 or 5 every morning. I want to talk to you but not here. Let me buy you lunch at Subway' and we went to Subway and Ben bought lunch and we talked."
"You talked about the store?"
"Yes, he told me he knew that no one wanted to manage my store, that every previous manager had requested a transfer to a different store. He knew it was partly the staffing and partly the customers. Then after some discussion he asked about my family: you and the kids and grandkids. He was quite charming and after a bit I felt like I was talking to a close acquaintance or friend and not my district manager. I mentioned that you were upset that I spent so much time at the store."
"And what did Ben say to that?"
"He said he could understand that after looking at my schedule and he realized I was doing between 60 and 70 hours a week. He said if I were his partner he'd be upset about that as well."
"What did you say?"
"I told him it was worse than that since you couldn't drive and you spent most of your time at home alone with no friends in the area. I told him you were sometimes rather 'testy and resentful' when I did get home and that upset me, and sometimes we wouldn't talk for a couple days, but there was little I could do about it."
"Well Rach I've been trying to be more understanding and less moody."
"I know that and for the most part you've been better but now I'm tired."
"Fine, get changed and go to sleep honey."
Our routine progressed and a couple days later a card arrived addressed to Rachel with no return address. When Rachel came home she opened it to find an invitation to a Mary Kay open house at one of her dance friends for the weekend of Labor Day. She said she might stop for an hour on the Sunday; she wasn't sure how the schedule would work out. The following day another card to Rachel without a return address showed up and when Rachel got home she opened it to find a 'Happy Labor Day' card from Ben with a note saying, 'try to slow down just a bit, I won't get on your case if you slow down a little' and Rachel smiled and said, "Isn't that sweet of him to send this to me?"
"Yeah, I guess so." I wasn't sure why he'd sent her a card to the house. Labor Day came and I decided to go into town on Tuesday since the weather was absolutely perfect. I walked to the bus stop and caught the bus and jumped off at the corner across the street from another store within the chain. No one knew who I was, I had only met one assistant way back in March and no one at this store knew me.
I wasn't sure how I was going to find out if all the managers got a Labor Day card or just Rachel. I went into the store and I was wandering the aisles and I heard someone wish a happy birthday to Kevin who was working at the end of the aisle I happened to be walking. Kevin is the manager; Rachel had mentioned his name in passing a few times.
I walked up and wished him a happy birthday and said, "When I worked for Rite-Aid my D.M. mailed birthday cards to all the managers." Kevin looked at me and said, "Our D.M. is a hard-nose who wouldn't mail a card to anyone even if it was to fire them, not the nicest of people but you didn't hear it from me."
"Oh a tough person to work for, man or woman?"
"A guy, he canned 3 managers in a six weeks because they didn't do what he wanted quickly enough to suit him. It's been better since he made an example of those 3, we all jump now."
"Nobody complained up the chain?"
"Yeah, one woman did and she was told that if she wanted her unemployment to just let it go."
"Huh, well good luck..."
"Thanks, I'm looking around for another job but you didn't hear that from me either."
So with that news I had a good idea what Ben wanted but I wasn't sure how to warn Rachel without letting her know I was suspicious. Things were rolling along as usual and the last week of September Rachel came home all smiles, "Guess what?"
"I don't know, you bought a lottery ticket and we won 5 million?"
