Wednesday
We both woke up early the next morning. The feelings of anxiousness, anticipation, hope, worry, excitement, nervousness returned from a few days ago. However, this time there was an entirely new and different cause for our emotions. It was as if we were back in our dating phase of life. Like we had just met someone new, talked, and exchanged numbers. We thought we had hit it off, and hoped they felt the same way. Nervous to call them or see if they called us. Anxious to see if they felt the same way about us as we did them or if they would just want to put us in the friend zone. Excited to see if they wanted to go out on a date. So many feelings and thoughts running through us that neither one of us mentioned doing something in bed before starting our day.
We got up, showered, and got dressed for the day. I did notice we both were a bit more meticulous in our morning routine and picking out our clothes. I attributed it to the 'dating phase' nerves we were feeling. It was like we were trying to impress the new persons we had just met.
As we walked by the laundry room, I went in and unlocked and opened our door that joined the two units, but their door was still closed as I expected. While the coffee was brewing, we got everything ready that we could and then waited for them to come over before starting to make the omelets.
We had missed the sunrise but decided to take our coffees out on the deck and sit and enjoy the morning sea air and view. We quietly opened the sliding door and left it ajar so we could hear them whenever they arrived. Sitting down, we only whispered to each other so as not to disturb them. They were still going at it when we fell asleep last night, so we had no idea when they finished their playtime and closed their eyes for the night.
It didn't take long, maybe about half an hour or a little more before we heard their side of the adjoining doorway unlock and open up. We turned around to see them come out of the laundry room. They both looked great -- happy, excited, anxious, but maybe a bit nervous too. They were carrying a pitcher of orange juice.
We instantly got up and went to great them. A round of good mornings and smiles were exchanged, but we restrained from kisses and hugs as we let things play out. No one wanted to assume anything.
"Thanks for bringing orange juice. We made some coffee if you would like some too," Sara offered as she took the pitcher and set it down on the kitchen counter before grabbing the pot of coffee.
Jaime informing her, "Oh, this is not orange juice. This is a pitcher of mimosas."
"Oh, a breakfast champagne drink of sorts, are we celebrating something?"
"We sure hope so. Do we have something you want to celebrate?"
Sara leapt in Jaime's arms and proclaimed, "You're in! We are all in too!"
RJ and I went in for bro hugs, then Jaime came to me, and Sara went to RJ for kisses and hugs.
We returned to our spouses, and I put my arm around Sara's waist, "We are so excited. We want to find a way to make this work. Sit down on the stools by the kitchen counter and let's talk while Sara and I cook up some omelets."
"Can we help?" Jaime offered.
Sara grabbed some flutes and replied, "No, just pour the mimosas and relax, we did most of the prep last night."
RJ began filling the glasses, while Sara got out the bagels and fruit bowl and I set out the ingredients that we had chopped, some different types shredded cheeses, and the meat that we cooked last night along with some bowls for each person, "Here, just decide what you want in your omelet and put it in your bowl and Sara and I will get them made."
We were glad we had done the prep work last night as it made for a smooth efficient operation. Basically, all we had to do was crack the eggs and start cooking. We turned on the stove and Sara and I each had a pan that we melted some butter in as Jaime and RJ filled their bowls with their choices of things like sausage, bacon, ham, green and red peppers, onions, spinach, etc. and of course cheese.
"Wow you guys went all out! So much to choose from and all prepared and ready to go," RJ commented as he tried to decide on what he wanted in his omelet. He eventually decided on some of everything, I think.
"We got things ready last night after our dinner. We thought it would be easier than rushing to get things ready this morning," Sara replied.
"Well, it all looks great. You trying to impress and woo us?" Jaime smirked.
"Absolutely," Sara responded. "Is it working?"
"It is, but if you keep treating us to such good meals, we might start expecting this all the time," RJ answered.
"So, there will be more times for us to all be together for meals... and other things?"
RJ looked to Jaime and grabbed her hand, then they both turned back to look at us and Jaime spoke up, "We really would like that. We want to enter into a serious relationship together with you two and see where this goes. We talked a lot yesterday, and I mean a LOT, and we both want this. You are so special, and we all get along so well. We have been so happy this week and on top of all of that RJ and I feel so close to each other. We want that to continue and grow and we want to be with you guys."
"We know it won't be easy," RJ interjected. "We also realize that this is unconventional to put it mildly and not socially acceptable but, given Jaime and I's interracial relationship, we have been through some of those issues already. What we eventually figured out was that what really matters is us. If this is what we want, then let's go for it. We don't have to publicize it, but we don't have to be ashamed either. We answer to each other not to them."
As we continued cooking, Sara chimed in, "We really want to go for this with you guys. You are special to us too. And we talked about what others might think, but we also realized that with us being in separate cities it might make it easier to not face public scrutiny for now or maybe ever. But if we do somewhere down the road, then so be it. We will have each other and that is what matters. If others can't or don't want to understand, then so be it. Our family is pretty open-minded, but we may find out just how open-minded they are if they ever find out."
We all nodded tentatively, as we knew it wasn't going to be as easy as that, but the way we felt for each other made it worth the risk. There was not another word said as we pondered this. Maybe we hadn't thought as much about what others might think, especially our families, but the more I thought about it, the more I for one was undeterred.
As we finished up the last omelets, we moved everything to the dining table and were just about to sit down in silence. But I had enough of the quiet and gloom, "You all are worth the risk to me," I declared firmly.
I thought the girls might cry upon hearing that and RJ nodded firmly, "I agree wholeheartedly!" and that pushed them both over the edge. Sara threw her arms around me as Jaime did with RJ and they both said that they agreed too. Then we switched up and Jaime came to me as Sara went to RJ.
Jaime kissed me and then whispered as she hugged me, "You are worth it to me."
Then Jaime broke away and hugged Sara, which led to another bro hug between RJ and myself before we all sat down to eat.
Sara had gathered herself and spoke up, "So what did you guys decide about the three priorities and the app and everything?"
RJ replied as we were dishing up, "We liked everything you came up with yesterday, except there is one part we absolutely can NOT agree to." Sara and I grabbed each other's hand and looked at each other. I could see the color and joy drain from her face and I could feel mine do the same. RJ paused as we looked back to him hoping this wasn't a relationship killer. He was silent for a while before finally continuing, "We can't agree to only seeing you for one week of vacation and a few long weekends a year. It has to be more often. We don't want to be away from you that long. We can't do it and that is firm, we have to get together at least once a month or more often."
Sara punched RJ's arm and it was not just a playful hit, but she really hit him hard, "Don't you ever do something like that again. That was not teasing, that was just plain mean. We thought you were going to demand something that would break us up."
"Sorry," RJ replied meekly as he rubbed his arm.
Jaime glared at RJ, "I hope that leaves a bad bruise! You deserved that and more. It WAS mean to leave them hanging like that. You could see in their faces right away how worried they were."
The girls were both glaring at RJ. He looked like he wanted to crawl into a hole. I was a little mad at him to, but I knew he was just trying to tease a little but it didn't play out very well, so I decided to try and save him by quickly moving on, "We talked a long time about getting together more often but didn't know how to make that work. I guess we have to settle for quick weekends between the other times and just get used to traveling. Or did you guys come up with some other ideas because we sure couldn't."
Jaime finally looked away from RJ, "Actually we did come up with an idea, but RJ may not be included anymore, and it would just be the three of us." She smiled at that and so did Sara as she turned to look at Jaime.
"I said I was sorry. Now who is teasing?... You are teasing right?"
Jaime ignored him, "Here is the deal, we both have to travel but it is more manageable."
"What? Meet somewhere in the middle? I guess that could work. Not real exciting to spend a weekend each month in a hotel room somewhere, but if we spend it together it will be worth it," I said.
"No, it is much better than that. My brother-in-law inherited some land and a cabin several years ago. He and my sister let us use it whenever we want. It is a little over three hours from where we live. But it is in your direction. We looked it up and it is a little over five hours from your city."
