THE STORY SO FAR
My wife Helen had a month long affair with Dr Paul Rodgers. She confessed to me. I had forgiven her.
I had compiled a list of the questions and actions that I wanted to be cleared up. It read
"How big is the doctor's cock, when flaccid and when fully erect?
Had my wife given Doctor Rodgers any blowjobs?
Had they had anal sex?
Did they have sex in my house? and if so was in it our bed?
Who else knows about their affair?
I had crossed out "Ideas for revenge" and replaced it "How to achieve justice".
Had either given the other rim jobs?
What was my wife's motivation? Was it forbidden fruit, his authority his youth
Did my wife think of herself as a slut?
If it happens again then I will divorce you.
Did she send nude pictures of herself to her bull?
Had Dr Rodgers sent nude pictures of himself?
I had briefly considered blackmailing Dr Rodgers. But I am no criminal and 2 wrongs don't make a right. This wasn't on my list.
THE STORY CONTINUES
When my wife returned from her work I was going to ask those difficult questions. But Helen got in the first blow..
She pleaded "Please keep my affair as our little secret."
I wasn't entirely happy that it was a "little secret". It was a massive, life changing, treacherous series of infidelities.
I was taken by surprise. I wasn't going to promise to keep her affair.
I said "What if Dr Rodgers is a sexual version of Dr Shipman?"
EDITORIAL NOTE
The previously "well respected" Dr Shipman was a British doctor and serial killer. He murdered about 250 of his patients, according to an official inquiry into his crimes.
In part he was able to do this because only one doctor was able to sign a death certificate. As a result now 2 doctors need to sign a death certificate.
OUR AGREEMENT
Helen said "I don't think he is. I think that I am Paul's one-off. He was mine. Paul and I had a good time but now I'm back being fully with you."
I said "I am glad of that. But if it happens again then I will divorce you."
Helen said "I promise that I will be faithful."
I asked Helen "Did Dr Rodgers discuss any other patients with you?"
Helen replied "No. We discussed our sexual past and our preferences. He asked about your sexual performance and preferences."
Had Dr Rodgers divulged medical information he would deserve to be struck off. But fortunately for him he hadn't.
I said "But we have to be aware that you might not be his only patient that he has sex with. If you find out that Dr Rodgers has had another affair with a patient, would you report him to the General Medical Council and have him struck off?"
Helen said "Reluctantly. But I would."
I pressed further "Would you report him if he is seen in public with a woman who is his patient?"
Helen was wary, but said "It might just be innocent."
I replied "I have had read all the relevant GMC Guidance. In which case Dr Rodgers should have logged all contacts with her.
If he hasn't then he is either a reckless fool or a serial seducer. Either way his colleagues should decide how to get him to follow their professional standards."
Helen said "If you insisted I would report our affair and my worries about his out-of-work behaviour."
I said "I would insist. The woman might be vulnerable and be led by Dr Rodgers. Our doctor might even commit a criminal offence if he had sex with a feeble minded woman. I read the full details about a doctor who was jailed for having sex with a vulnerable patient."
Helen said "You don't need to labour the point. I already told you that I would report Paul."
I wasn't happy that my wife kept calling Dr Rodgers by his forename. But I kept quiet about this irksome habit.
THE QUESTIONS
I said "Lets take a break. I have a lot of questions and I don't want to make it seem like a Spanish Inquisition."
Helen said "No one expects a Spanish Inquisition."
Helen's Monty Python reference helped to lighten the mood. We had spaghetti Bolognese and wine for our meal.
We got down from the table and sat on our comfortable chairs.
