I'm kind of obsessed with finding original ways the hubby discovers his wife cheating, but man it's hard. I'm not sure I did it with this one, but it's better than a strange car in the driveway.
I wrote this with the idea of possibly having multiple parts. If it's received well, I'll continue their story.
I Still Love You
"Honey, I think we should do some remodeling," George said to his wife.
They were eating dinner together for the first time in over a week. George is home by 5:30 every night, but his wife Pennie has several different reasons for not being home in the evening.
Their only child Zack is a junior at Illinois State University. Since Zack left for school she's been working longer shifts at work and started up with several clubs and even bingo nights.
"Remodeling?" She asked. "What are you thinking?
"We always talked about finishing the basement. I'd like to do that. I'd also like to replace the deck."
"What do you want to do with the deck?
"I'd like to make an outdoor kitchen and extend it out to the pool. That way we won't have to step down to the patio, only to have to step up to the pool deck. Maybe we could redo the kitchen too?"
"Okay. That sounds nice. Will it cost a lot?"
"I don't know. I can price it out. Maybe the same contractor can do it all and give us a deal."
"Okay, dear."
Three weeks later they signed the papers for a home equity loan. It ate up 30% of their remaining equity in their house. The contractor for the deck and outdoor kitchen agreed to finance their cost too and put a lien on their house as collateral. That left 10% in equity, or about 20k.
"Honey, the company that is doing the basement, has a great deal on windows and siding. I think we should take advantage of it. Ours are still from when they built the house 30 years ago "
"I like that idea. We should've done the windows years ago."
"There was always something more important, dear. Car payments, mortgage, tuition, college fund, you know what I mean? Now that Zack doesn't cost us as much, we've got more disposable income."
"That makes sense. Okay, let's do it."
A month later, the basement, windows, and siding were all done. The weather warmed up and the deck company was ready to start their job.
"George, the house looks great."
"Yeah, it sure does. It's almost ready for the next phase."
"Next phase? What do you mean?" She gave George an inquisitive look. George looked annoyed with the question.
"Well, Zack will be out of the house soon, raising him trough school was phase one."
"Oh, I get it. Empty nesting is phase two?"
"Something like that," he said without elaborating.
Some time later, when he suggested that they get new cars, she worried that he was in the middle of a mid-life crisis. He looked at several sports cars and ultimately settled on a big SUV for him and a luxury sedan for her. He used their savings to pay cash for his and leased hers in her name. If she would have realized that he paid cash for his, she would have stopped him.
She understood his explanation for leasing hers by telling her that it's always good to have some individual credit in your own name. Most of everything they had was joint debt.
One night George was working at his computer when Pennie walked into the office bedroom. "What are you working on, dear?"
"I'm just about finished with our taxes."
"Oh, okay. Are we getting a big refund?"
"No, we owe about $800."
"Oh, we usually get a refund. We take a vacation with that money. What happened?"
"You made more money last year. You made almost as much as I did and that put us up a couple of tax brackets."
"Oh?' Well, I guess that makes sense."
Since Zack left for college, she took all of the necessary courses to get her graduate degree and then get her Nurse Practitioner certification and license.
"We can still go on vacation though. All of your extra earnings have us in pretty good shape."
"Oh, good. I'll start looking at options."
"How about Hawaii?" He suggested.
Pennie's face lit up in a big smile and she said, "Now you're talking. I'll start looking right away."
"Great, honey."
George looked at his calendar and calculated the days he wanted to take off of work. George let Pennie know there was only a one-week window that he could take a vacation. It worked for Pennie so she booked it.
A week later they were eating dinner at an expensive steakhouse. They had been doing that every Saturday for several months. George was using the joint checking account's debit card to pay for the meal every time. George could've kept the cost down if he wanted to, but he loved a particular wine that they had there and it's almost $200 per bottle. Pennie didn't know that and never saw the check.
A month later, they were packing for their trip to Hawaii. Pennie was very excited and was hoping that they could reconnect on the trip. She had been unhappy with George's recent moodiness and even more unhappy because they hadn't made love in several months.
There had been a few times where she gave George a blowjob as foreplay hoping to make love with her husband, but George came in her mouth without warning. He would blame having too much wine or beer, or just that it felt too good and he couldn't hold back.
He's getting older and recharging for a second-round doesn't happen anymore for him. He'd even fallen asleep without returning the favor several times. She couldn't remember the last time George went down on her. He used to enjoy eating her to several orgasms.
George had initiated sex several times over the last few months, but it always seemed to be when she was on her period and she had to turn him down. She thought, "You'd think after being married for so long he would know when I'm on my period."
She packed some sexy lingerie and sexy bikinis hoping to light George's fire. "For the thousands of dollars the trip is costing us, it had better be worth it," she thought. She even told him to get a prescription for Viagra from his doctor, to ensure a great trip for her.
George was miffed when she told him to do that, she had not asked, it was an order. "Well, I'm sorry I don't have the recovery time of a 31-year-old."
"What an oddly specific age to throw out there," she thought.
On the morning of their trip, Pennie was using the bathroom and shouted "God damn it!"
