Holiday
Our 23rd wedding anniversary was coming up a week from now. We had been considering booking a last minute holiday. I came home from work and found an excited Linda. She told me she had booked a last minute four day trip to an all inclusive resort in Bulgaria.
Neither of us had ever been to Bulgaria before, so it seemed like a good choice. Also being all inclusive meant we could let loose and indulge ourselves.
The flight was late afternoon which meant we would not actually arrive at the resort until late in the evening, around 11pm. After the plane landed we boarded the transfer coach along with a mix of people, there were families, other couple, some younger some older. Along with a few groups of guys and girls.
Many of the other passengers departed at various different hotels along the way, ours was the last hotel along the route.
We exited the coach and queued up at reception to check-in. I chatted with an older couple in front while we waited. They already had a couple of drinks as the husband had headed straight to the bar as soon as he was off the coach. I decided to go and grab us both a drink while Linda checked us in.
I ordered a cocktail for us both and headed back to reception. Linda was chatting with a younger guy who was behind us in the queue. I didn't take much noticed at first, but as I approached, I heard Linda gasp and say "oh that's really bad, I'm so sorry. How could she do that to you?"
As I got to her and gave her drink, she said to me "thanks babe, this is Simon, we have just been chatting." I shook Simon's hand. He seemed like a decent guy. Medium height, dark hair, blue eyes and slim build. He had a nice friendly face and a nice smile. I asked him where he was from and he said the Medway area of Kent, but before I could get more into the conversation, it was our turn at reception to check-in.
Check in went smoothly and once completed, we grabbed our bags and said, "see you around." to the people we had met and headed to the room.
The room was lovely with a large bed, lovely bathroom and a large balcony with a partial sea view.
We threw our bags down and crashed on the bed with our cocktails. Linda said "you know that guy I introduced you to, Simon. You'll never guess what happened to him. He booked the holiday with his girlfriend, who he's been with for a couple of years. Then a week before they were due to fly out she told him she had met someone else!"
"Oh poor bloke," I said, "I'm surprised he decided to come on the holiday by himself."
She said "he said he had thought about cancelling, but would have lost all the money. And he didn't want to ask a mate as he didn't fancy a lads piss up either. So he decided to just go it alone and to use the time to think about things."
It was getting late now, so we decided to go to bed. I was hoping for a little fun, but I was asleep before she had finished in the bathroom.
Next day I was woken early about 7am, by Linda dressing in her running gear. "It's a lovey day she said and I couldn't sleep. Gonna go for a run along the board walk. You go back to sleep and we can go for breakfast when I get back."
It's sounded like a deal to me and after she left I tried to go back to sleep, but for some reason I couldn't drift off, so instead I surfed around some social media on my iPad. Around 8:30 I showered, I made a cup of tea and sat out on the balcony. I checked the Find My app on the phone and saw Linda was not far from returning along the beach board walk. As I watched I saw her come into view, but she was not alone. As she got closer I saw she was running alongside the guy from last night, Simon.
