Then someone they were talking to turned to face me, it was Ana, no wonder they weren't looking at anyone else, I wondered if she was checking up on me, something that gave me mixed feelings and made part of me feel rebellious. She didn't come close, so I couldn't be sure, she was certainly getting very friendly with the couple. After a while I turned to my friends and told them I was going to circulate, they didn't seem totally happy but I persisted and headed off in a roundabout route to visit Ana and the couple. As I greeted Ana she gave me such a welcoming and knowing smile that it was like old days, the couple didn't really stand a chance, we shared the look that said let's get them naked and smiled.
Of course that's not what happened, Ruth came in to tell us that Jane and Bree where in the ladies final and David was in the mixed semi's with Jo. The couple needed to stay where they were so we invited them to our celebration; a good reason to exchange information. "We might even be at the pool after the Volleyball," I mentioned as a throwaway, getting a raised eyebrow from Ana, but I had already decided to take her with me if I want to go.
Our teams were doing very well and both finished up winners so of course there had to be a celebration. Ana and I didn't have long to go to the pool but something in me wanted to keep things boiling with the men and the couple if they were there, Ana didn't look so happy that we were leaving our group. When we arrived there were about 8 men in the pool playing water polo very competitively with a few women in a group chatting more than watching. So the men didn't notice us at first and Ana became fidgety, she didn't want to let our own people down. After a few minutes though, the men that I chatted to before, including the two, Carl and Nat, who walked me back, became aware of us sitting close to the edge and called a break. They came over to speak to us and we noticed the wives paying attention. "Are you coming in?" Carl asked, giving me a complete once over. "Not now, we have a celebration going at our place, our teams both won the volley ball." The men looked impressed and I could see they were wondering why we were there, my sensible side was wondering that too. I decided to take my sensible viewpoint and said, "I told you I'd come but as things have changed it's just a flying visit, maybe we'll run into you another time." Their eyes strayed to look at Ana, so I asked her if she wanted to be introduced, she was interested but I could see that her duty to our group came first, so she declined. I wondered why I wasn't thinking that way until I looked back at the men and for the first time realised that they were all naked at which my demon went hyper.
I whispered to Ana, "Have you seen under the water?" Then I saw the battle go on inside her and had to admit my respect for her, back in the day she would have jumped in, today she turned and walked away. I was torn, it was almost impossible for me to over-ride my demon but Ana looked back at me with a look approaching disgust and the shock pulled me around. "See you around guys," I said and followed Ana away. 'It is early days,' my demon declared.
I caught up with Ana and for a moment we walked in silence then she said, "I can't believe I'm the one being sensible." I didn't reply, 'the true me was feeling extremely guilty again! And I didn't need her to tell me what a shitbag I was being.'
The others were already into their second drink when we arrived and we headed for the bar. I knew I shouldn't be drinking and surprisingly the real me kicked in on that, one would be enough I thought and then I noticed our group were already on soft drinks. David would be proud of them all and I decided to follow their lead, as did Ana. David came in then and I saw him look at us, Ana nodded at him and he smiled at us. I went across to him and asked outright, "are you checking up on us?"
"Just trying to make sure I get told if you get into a dangerous situation, I really don't want you to lose that baby."
I noticed that he hadn't mentioned anything about fidelity and something told me the demon didn't give a shit about anything once a sexual tryst was possible. I found it hard to respond, I knew what he was doing was for the best but my pride hurt.
"So what has your clever mind been up to today my lovely, did you get laid by all the guys in the pool?"
I had to admit he surprised me by that assessment and his eyebrow was raised expectantly. "Do I have to tell you here, how about upstairs?"
"Do you think you can distract me so that you don't have to tell me?" if his eyebrow could go any higher it would have disappeared under his hair.
I gave him one of my cute innocent smiles but he wasn't having any of it. In fact he said. "Now I'm really worried."
"I'm worried too, I don't want everyone to know."
.
"OK how about we step out into the garden?"
I nodded and we headed out the door, "I see your walking better," he said from behind me. "I'll have to see about that," he added.
I just smiled to myself and added a little more sway to my hips.
We walked just a little before he said, "I don't think they will hear now."
So I shocked myself telling him everything although I have to admit he made it easy, he sighed a lot but that was it really and when I finished he just said. "Okay sounds like ones not enough anymore, but you be careful with our baby."
That surprised me and my demon. "I'm sorry, what did you say?"
"I asked you not to risk our baby."
"No before that."
"He thought for a moment "Ohh yes, it seems like me and lots of women are not enough for you anymore. What's your plan, I guess you are going to need me to know to torment me, so I might as well hear about it now"
I was unable to find the words to express what was going through my mind. I must have looked non-plussed because he asked, "Where you proposing to let all 8 men have you one after the other like you wanted to on the ship?" I was still speechless so he carried on turning the screw, "perhaps two at a time?"
"I believe they have a doctor on call from here, I'll arrange for you to have a check-up and I'll ask him about what you can and can't do while we are on holiday."
Now I was getting cross even though what he said was an obvious consideration, "How dare you?" I spat at him.
"I'm sorry, have I done something wrong?" He threw back at me.
We just stood there, me with hands on hips, him in his laid back couldn't care less pose.
Nothing passed between us, he just sighed again and turned and walked away.
Dinner came and went and I don't think anyone said more than two words to me, it just made me cross and my brain started to work out how I could get away. 'I'd told him the truth, what else did he want,' I thought.
"Did you see our semi-final game?" Bree asked, breaking the two word mode, and I knew she knew the answer already, so I gave her a knowing smile. It seemed my absence did more harm than any wicked plans I had, the sooner I was out of here the better.
After dinner I went across to the hotel reception to ask if they had any rooms, they did but then they asked how I proposed to pay. "On our account," I replied so she checked and we didn't have one. "Will credit card do?"
"Of course madam"
"I'll be back," I said and headed back to the Lodge. Everyone was gone when I arrived, so I began searching for my cards. Half an hour later I was still searching and sitting on the stairs in despair. I decided I might as well move my stuff out of the main bedroom and as I was doing so I heard someone come in, I turned to find it was Jo.
"David sent me to check that you are ok," she said.
I mumbled, "I'm ok"
"You don't look it" she said.
"Why has he sent you?" I spat out.
"I thought it was because he's your husband and he loves you," she said, then carried on. "We are watching the show, something about a ridiculous contest is on in a while. We saw you over there in reception and thought you were bound to have seen us."
I realised that I hadn't been paying attention.
"Please come," she asked, looking at me with those puppy dog eyes.
"One second," I said, determined to move my stuff first.
David made space for me when I arrived, bringing a chair from the back so that I could sit next to him. Then when we were sorted, he reached out and held my hand as we watched the show restart. "I hear you want to move out," he whispered into my ear. I was crying at this point and trying not to be heard. "I can't find any credit cards," I said, each word between sobs.
