The revised story:
1. Beverly:
The house Beverly lived in was a beautiful A four-thousand-square-foot tri-level colonial, with a mother-in-law apartment. She volunteered at the art co-op a few days a week, for a couple of hours, worked out two days a week, but only had a few friends. The couple had two children later in life who lived on their own close by. Beverly bemoaned her husband's lack of home life and attention to her.
She was alone most of the time with John's mom, because John spent most of his time climbing the corporate ladder. John was a lawyer in a large firm, although he was a good provider. He worked constantly to become a partner, and then managing partner, now he wants his name to be first on the wall of the law firm. He was an absent spouse another issue was: Bev had a love/hate relationship with her Husband's Mother.
While John worked toward his law degree after Bev graduated college with a business degree she was the breadwinner. So when received his law licence he didn't want Bev to work outside the home. On the other hand her mother-in-law thought she was lazy because she didn't have a job and confronted Bev many times about this. Bev was caught between a rock and a hard place.
2. The note and his approach:
Bev was on her way to meet her friend Shirley at the coffee shop. It was a weekly event, because she had a flexible schedule at the art co-op. They exchanged county and town news. Sometime they just laughed at situations that occurred since they last saw each other.
Beverly arrived at the coffee shop first and a server escorted her to a table. A man about Sixty years old was in a seat at another table and watched her. She noticed him a few times over the last few months in the coffee shop. Although he was handsome, she didn't like the way he looked at her. His dark eyes were focused on her every time she looked his way. Bev felt a chill and it looked like he could see right through her clothes. This disturbed her, so she changed her seat today just as Shirley arrived.
Shirley and Beverly spent about an hour at the diner to get up speed on all that transpired in town and joked around a bit. Shirley had to leave to go to the hairdressers. Bev stayed and asked for the check as it was her turn to pay.
The server said "The gentleman that was at the table in back of you paid for it. He left you this message.
Bev read the handwritten note with a phone number on a napkin the server gave her, it said. "My name is James Rolls I want to meet you. Please call me, leave your phone number with Mrs. Fox, she will take the message".
The note shocked Bev. She had no idea what to do. This never happened to her before. Bev wasn't going to call him. "He's kind of cute, but his dark eyes give me chills." she thought. Bev dismissed the note she received from the older gentleman.
The following week when Beverly went to the coffee shop and met with Shirley, she was surprised to see Mr. Rolls at a table near them.
He came over to Beverly before Shirley arrived and said. "You're going to meet me eventually, so why not stop fighting it, and meet me in the park across the street this afternoon."
This unnerved Bev and when Shirley arrived she could see Bev wasn't herself.
"What's the matter you're in outer space today". Shirley observed.
" I have a lot on my mind that's all." Bev replied, she didn't want to tell her friend about the odd meeting she just had.
After coffee Bev went home. It was a sunny, warm spring day. The flowers started to bloom.
3. The interrogation:
When Bev arrived home her mother-in-law interrogated her. "Where were you: when are you going to get a job, so my son won't have to work as hard to maintain your lifestyle."
This upset Bev, because her husband decided after the kids were on their own and Bev wanted to get a job. He said that it would be better if she stayed at home with his mom to attend to her needs and he would be the breadwinner.
"John doesn't want me to work so I can be here for you and to keep you company."
"Well, you're not doing a good job if that's the case."
Bev was pissed but didn't acknowledge her mother-in-laws comment.
4: Kids:
After they tried to get pregnant for many months, and when Bev went for her yearly exam, the Doctor performed tests on her. The tests came out good. It was found she was capable to conceive a child. Bev couldn't get her husband to be checked, he was too busy. When she brought up the subject of adoption he nixed it. This occurred many years ago, before his mother came to live with them. John's mother was very protective of him as she had him when she was eighteen and he was her only child.
Eighteen years ago Bev became a mother of twins boys through IVF. It was a fun time for her being a mother, but now the twins are in college Bev at forty-eight years old she explained to her husband she needed something to do. She wanted to go to work, her husband would have none of it. He wanted her to stay home to take care of his mother's needs.
John' mother came to live with them right after the children were born, this worked well. The house had a mother-in-law apartment and Bev wanted something to do. Win-win he thought.
It worked well while the children were young but now it's different.
It became apparent that Bev and her mother-in-law had an oil and water relationship always at odds when John wasn't home. This was one of those days. It was a nice day, so Bev decided to go to the park down the street and walk around to calm down.
5. Park Meeting:
Bev navigated the park walkways, until she found a vacant bench in a quiet part of the park. She brought a paperback book with her to read. This was something she did to relieve the stress she received from her Mother-in-law when she was nagged by her.
She saw James when she looked up from the book. He stood there with a look of admiration on his face.
"You look very beautiful sitting there". He said.
That excited Bev as she was almost forty-nine years old, a year younger than her husband, and her husband hasn't told her that in many years.
Bev said, "Thank you James, but how did you find me?"
James said "I'm very enchanted with you, I made it my mission to know you better and where you are."
"Would you want to sit on the bench with me and tell me your observations about me? I would also know something about you." Asked Bev with excitement.
"Yes," he said, "but you are to address me as Mr. Rolls or sir from now on. Is that understood?"
"Ok" said Bev turning away from him in embarrassment.
James sat down next to Bev. "I like the smell of your perfume." He put his arm around her. She felt secure. "You're not appreciated by your family I can surmise that from your posture."
It only took a half hour before they conversed like they were old friends. Before she knew it they kissed and James touched her like she longed to be touched by her husband. She felt like she was the most desirable woman in the world and didn't want the moment pass. Bev didn't care that someone she knew might see her with someone other than her husband at the park at that moment.
James arose and said. "I have to go." He gave Bev his number again and told her if she wanted to meet again to call.
Her head spun. She loved what he did to her but she felt guilty because she was a married woman.
6. The Conflict:
All night Bev went over what transpired that afternoon. "I'm a married woman, why did James affect me so!" She was very confused. 'James', Mr. Rolls as he wanted to be called, made her feel like she was still a sexy woman, but then he abruptly left. She was confused! She fell into a fitful sleep.
The next morning, after her husband John, left for work she called the number she was given. A woman answered saying "Hello this is Mrs. Fox. how may I help you?"
"I would like to speak with Mr. Rolls, my name is Beverly."
"Okay miss Beverly I will get Mr. Rolls for you."
It took James about five minutes to come to the phone. Bev told him. "I would like to meet you again."
James said, "Fine, I will meet you in the park again this afternoon. You will wear a short skirt, button front blouse, no panties, pantyhose, or bra."
"What," said Bev in shock, she figured that she heard him wrong?
"If you want me to meet with you those are my terms." Demanded James.
Bev thought about it for a long time. Her face turned red as she said, "Where are we going to meet?"
