A Tale of Two Birthdays
My wife, Kate, and I (Mike) really enjoy fucking. Like, a lot. And while sex with each other makes up the vast majority of our fucking, we also do enjoy playing with others -- always together.
My hope is that if you're reading this, you've read my story
Happy Anniversary
-- it will kind of give you the background you need to understand the way our sex life is structured, including the kind of debauchery that we really do get up to during playtime. This particular story is something I briefly referenced in that story -- the tale of my birthday last year, and hers the year before.
Now, the thing you need to understand is that our birthdays are only about a month and a half apart -- hers in April, mine in May. Much like our anniversary, it's always up to each of us to plan the entertainment for the other's birthday. I will say, we've never had quite as crazy a time on either of our birthdays as we did on our seventh anniversary, but the birthdays you'll see here certainly came close.
To give you the outlay for her birthday two years ago, you first need to understand that we have a "hall pass" system where we each get one free pass with somebody outside of the context of a mutually involved encounter. The year in question was the only year so far in our marriage where we both used our hall passes (hers that year was because she somehow managed to find herself alone in a hotel room with Michael B. Jordan, and I mean... I get it; I might've considered it too, and I'm about as straight as they come) -- there have been three years where it was just me using the hall pass, two where it was just her, and this last year leading up to our seventh anniversary, neither of us used our hall pass.
My use of my hall pass that year had been something I ordinarily stay away from -- one night with a co-worker. LT Merrill Pippen, Medical Service Corps, United States Navy, is a physician's assistant, and was, at the time, the chief medical officer for my squadron (context: I'm a Major in the US Marine Corps, and the operations officer for the squadron; at the time, I was a Captain, serving as the logistics officer). She was getting ready to PCS, heading to USS
Ronald Reagan
, homeported at Yokosuka, Japan, and a few nights before her final day at the squadron, a group of the officers, including the old chaplain, the H&S commander, a few of the pilots, and the squadron surgeon, decided to take her out to the bar.
Now, I want to point out, it wasn't a bunch of dudes taking her out -- two of the pilots were women. Add to that the fact that LT Pippen was married, and I don't think anybody was concerned for her wellbeing or virtue.
I only had a couple of drinks throughout the night -- as the oldest of the bunch, I was getting to the point in my life where drinking like I used to in college just left me miserable, to say nothing of the fact that I had driven. LT Pippen, being almost as old as me, was in the same boat, although she had planned a little better and taken an Uber. The young 24, 25 year old lieutenants, on the other hand, were thoroughly enjoying themselves, and around 11:00, everybody called an Uber to head back to the squadron, except for the surgeon -- who had already left -- and Doc Pippen and myself.
"I miss being that young," I sighed after the pilots had left. "I miss being able to pound a six pack and not worry about what my hangover was going to be like the next day, or if it was going to contribute to me somehow ending up on BCP."
LT Pippen laughed. "Come on, Mike, a six pack of beer wouldn't put you anywhere near in danger of being on BCP. You have like no discernible body fat."
I raised an eyebrow. "Been checking me out, have you, Merrill?"
"Or, you know, conducting your annual periodic health assessment," she shot back with a grin. "Although, maybe."
I grinned. "Really."
Merrill rolled her eyes. "Oh, please. I caught you staring at my ass when I came in in my whites the other day. You were not subtle."
"It's a great ass," I said with a shrug. "As a good churchgoing man, I feel it is my obligation to appreciate the beauty of all that God has made."
"Oh, my ass was sculpted by God, then?" she asked with a grin.
I thought for a moment. "Your ass was sculpted by God as though He were Patrick Swayze in
Ghost
, guiding Demi Moore's hands to create a work of beautiful art."
She paused for a moment. "Okay, you are fucking incorrigible, but that's a pretty good line."
I took a mock bow. "Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week."
Merrill took a beat, as if considering what to do next, and then signaled our server for another drink. A moment later, a gin and tonic appeared at our table. "And you, sir?" the server asked.
"Just a Diet Coke. Probably time for me to cut off," I told him.
He disappeared, and Merrill took a sizable sip of her gin and tonic before speaking. "So. I know you and I have had what I think is safe to call a harmless flirtation for the year we've been at the squadron together," she said. "I think that had we both been drunk enough at the same time during deployment, it might've gone further than that, but it didn't."
She looked up, and stared me directly in the eyes. "But tonight, I feel like this is going somewhere." She stopped, touching the wedding band on her left hand. "I want you to know that if it does, my husband will be okay with it. We've never had a closed relationship. With both of us being in the military, we have an understanding that sometimes we're going to have needs that it's impossible for the other to provide, whether because one of us is on deployment, or we're not co-located, or whatever the case."
Then she looked down at my left hand. "I just want to make sure I'm not leading you to be unfaithful to Kate."
I shook my head. "No worries there," I told her. "Kate and I have invited, well, a few hundred different people into our bedroom at this point. And I will say that normally, we don't do anything without the other involved, but we do allocate each other one hall pass per year. If something were to happen between us tonight, I would call that my hall pass for this year."
"Alright," Merrill said with a nod. "If you're sure."
I grinned. "Yeah, I'd like to see where this goes. Let me just do one thing."
Pulling out my phone, I quickly typed a text to Kate: "Hall Pass."
