I caught her eyes at a newly opened club I had gone to with my then boyfriend and two of his friends to celebrate my 19th birthday. Taking advantage of the fact that my boyfriend was stuck in a long queue for the restroom, she approached me with a confident and assertive demeanour that commanded attention.
"Hi, what's your name baby?" she said.
I was a bit bemused by this approach and it took me a while to realise she was a woman. She was about as tall as me, with deep brown eyes and short brown hair which she kept in a brushed up undercut style, giving her an androgynous look. Her ears were pierced and displayed a pair of hoop earrings each. She was wearing a dark green T-shirt and camouflage cargo pants, coupled with a pair of brown Doc Martens boots. I guessed her age to be in her mid to late 30s.
"Umm, Vanessa, but people call me Nessa."
"Nessa, got a nice ring to it. My name's Sam. So how do you like the new bar?"
"Oh, it seems quite nice! I like the fact they have a dancing space as well. And the music would be really great to dance to!"
"Would? Not been on the dance floor yet then?"
"Nah. My boyfriend does not like dancing. But when I come here with more friends next time I sure will!"
"Why not now? I will dance with you...come on!" she then grabbed both my hands and led me to the dance floor. The club was playing some current chart hits, such as Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift, which I liked dancing to. Soon I was dancing with Sam and having a good time. My boyfriend meanwhile was back and chatting away with his two friends, probably about football or some other boring topic he used to get passionate about.
Meanwhile, Sam was dancing closer to me. She then spun me around and put her hands around my hips. I could feel the hardened nipples of her small breasts rubbing against my back as we danced. I never had a woman dancing with me like that, but she did so confidently and I was happy to let her lead.
After a while she whispered in my ears that it was getting hot and she suggested we go outside for some fresh air, which I agreed to.
Outside, she led me to a more secluded corner and we sat down on a low wall and started chatting. Suddenly she clasped both my hands in hers and said, "You know Nessa, I really like you..."
"Well, thanks, it's nice of you to say-"
"No, you don't understand. I find you really attractive. I would really like to make you my girlfriend..."
The reality of the situation finally dawned on me.
"Oh, I'm sorry there is a misunderstanding. You see, I have a boyfriend and-"
"I know. But I think he does not deserve you. In fact, I think you are wasted on any man..."
"Well, thanks, but I like boys and I am not really into women."
"That's just because you've never been with one. But I know I can change that," she then looked me straight into the eyes, unwavering and full of confidence.
"Come back to my place now and let me show you a world you never imagined existed!"
"I...I think I should go back inside now," but I could not as she was holding me in place by my hands.
"Nessa, I saw how your boyfriend ignored you at the bar. You deserve better. You need passion. I can give you that. And if you don't like it, you can always go back to him."
I thought for a few moments. I was not really into women, but there was something strong, confident and determined about her that confused me and intrigued me.
