"Good morning, Miss Chloe!"
"Hm?"
"Good morning, Miss Chloe!"
Chloe slowly opened her eyes; her bedroom was still shrouded in darkness, and she could sense her assistant, Zoe, moving around in the room.
"What time is it?" she asked, groggily.
"Two o'clock, Miss."
Chloe groaned. The pair of them had gone to bed very early in preparation for this pre-dawn start to their day, but Chloe's body was still resisting the need to get up at such a ridiculous hour. When Zoe turned on the light, Chloe was simultaneously impressed and annoyed to see Zoe was fully dressed and made-up for the day ahead.
"I'll get your breakfast ready, Miss, while you have a shower," Zoe beamed, "the car will be here in an hour."
Thirty minutes later, Chloe made an appearance in the kitchen, sitting at the breakfast table while Zoe poured her a double espresso and buttered some toast.
"You are way too chirpy for this time in the morning, Zoe," Chloe smiled.
"I'm just excited, Miss. Today you make your proper screen debut! In a Lioness Pictures film, no less!"
"I am well aware, Zoe, darling."
"Um... are you nervous, Miss?" This wasn't just a cameo role -- her mistress would be on screen for a significant amount of time. When Lioness pictures had filmed Dark Desires, Chloe had stepped in to cut actress Bethany Starr's hair on screen. The original plan for The Gift had been for Chloe to be visible on-screen while she transformed Lulu's hair, but the scene had been re-written by Elaine Danvers, the head of Lioness Pictures, to become the centre-piece of the film and make Chloe's role much more prominent.
Chloe shrugged. "I don't feel nervous. I'm as prepared as I can be, i think. But it will be a different situation when we're on set, of course."
Their car was on time -- a deluxe Lexus minivan with lush executive seating in the back. Normally Zoe acted as her mistress's chauffeur but for the duration of Chloe's scenes at least, she got to ride alongside her boss. As the minivan sped through the countryside, the pair reviewed Chloe's schedule for the coming week, then went over Chloe's lines in the script again.
"I love that moment, Miss, when Chloe and Florence are discussing Lulu, and Chloe asks if she's bedded her yet", said Zoe.
"You do? Why is that?"
Zoe nodded and said, "um... I think about how you might talk about me? Like... I heard Bethany comment on my being collared, the other evening... and it made me feel like I was your... like you owned me, Miss."
Chloe looked at her assistant for a long moment, before hooking her finger to the large ring at the front of her collar. She tugged on it, pulling Zoe closer to her, then leant in and kissed her, still holding her collar. Zoe whimpered and pursed her lips for Chloe's tongue to slowly slide into her mouth.
When she broke the kiss, Chloe asked, "How long until we get there?" to which Zoe smiled at her mistress and slid out of her seat, on to her knees...

When they arrived, Chloe went straight to hair and makeup while Zoe went to find the director. Jill Zegorian had caught Elaine's eye with a short film about a hairstylist who is stalked by a jilted lover. Elaine had produced her next short film, based on a script Elaine herself had written, and it had won awards at film festivals around the world. Now, Elaine was entrusting her with the studio's biggest production to date.
So far, Jill had managed to keep her nerves in check, partly thanks to Jude, the production manager, keeping the whole production running smoothly. However, when Zoe arrived by the bank of monitors and cameras where Jill was in conversation with Jude, she could sense a very tense atmosphere. Jill was in her regular black skinny jeans and stressed tee-shirt, her arms covered in tattoos, her dark wavy hair pulled back into a ponytail under her baseball cap.
"Good morning, Jill, Jude!" said Zoe, brightly. Her presence did seem to dissipate the tenseness a little.
"Is Chloe in makeup?" was the first thing Jill said.
"Yes, we arrived about 10 minutes ago".
"Is she going to need you much today, do you think?" asked Jude, who somehow managed to make jeans and tee-shirt (with the Lioness Pictures logo) look smart.
"Um, no, not until after filming her scenes today," said Zoe. She thought to herself, afterward, we're going to have to find a quiet office for about an hour...
"What's wrong?" Zoe asked.
"Jude's assistant has called in sick, and she needs someone to help out," sighed Jill.
"I don't want to have to pull one of the other interns in, it'll slow me down," frowned Jude.
"I'd love to help, Jude. Let me go and let Miss Chloe know, then I'll be straight with you."
"You're a star, Zoe, thank you!" said Jude, and Jill gave her a hug.
By the time Zoe found her, Chloe had been transformed into the 1923 French character who shared her name. She was in her costume of men's slacks and white dress shirt. Her makeup making her look like a femme fatale from a film noire.
Zoe explained the situation to her mistress, who answered in her now familiar Parisian, screen accent.
"Of course, dear, I am happy for you to step in and help Jude, but on two conditions," she said to Zoe's reflection.
"Yes, Miss Chloe?" asked Zoe.
"First, you are the best that you can be. You represent me, Zoe. Moi. So, you must be the best damned assistant that woman has ever had. You take care of anything that is asked of you, oui?"
"Absolutely, Miss Chloe", Zoe breathed, "and the second condition?"
