Thank you to Pixiehoff for proofreading and fixing my story.
It was a blizzard, Emma was driving and was lost. She must have misread a sign or taken a wrong turn. Lots of the signs were covered by the blowing snow so it was hard to read what some of them were saying. She was on her way to a college friend Josephine's birthday party. When she was invited she thought it would be close not a four hour drive. The roads were awfully quiet, almost deserted. At times she figured she was the only one stupid enough to be on the road now with the conditions. If Emma knew her home was as far away as it was before she would have appreciated the invitation but decline to show up because of the distance. Four hours in ideal conditions is a long time and even worse during a blizzard. Emma saw a glitter in the distance and as she drew closer she saw it was a diner called Bruno's Diner and a small motel next to it called Pinewood Motel.
Emma decided to pull into the diner, maybe get a coffee and a bite to eat, even ask directions if anyone knew. She hurried out of her car and into diner and dusted the snow off her. She looked and saw the diner was about half full. Some people were eating bowls of hot soup which Emma thought would be perfect on a cold night like tonight, others seemed to be enjoying hot chocolates, teas or coffees while talking to each other. She noticed a girl sitting on a stool at the counter. She was short, about five foot three, dark brown hair just below her shoulders, dark brown eyes, very slim, and a small breast size which looked like a small A or AA cup. She was wearing a black sweater, a red faux leather skirt that went down to her mid thighs and black pantyhose, and blue beret and matching blue overcoat hung over the stool to her left, and green snow boots on her small feet. She looked deeply entranced in the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen that she was reading. Emma walked up and sat on an empty stool beside her. Emma was even shorter at five foot one with shoulder length bright blonde hair, with blue/green eyes that shone in the right light and a 30A breast size.
"What can I get you?" The server asked.
"Just a large double double to go please. And do you know where," she began pulling the piece of paper with Josephine's address on it it of her pocket "Willowcreek Drive is?"
Before the waiter could answer, the girl next to her spoke up. "About another hour North up the highway," she said pointing "take the 318 North exit turn right on Finch Avenue it will be the third street on the left."
"Oh," Emma responded, a little shocked. "Thank you."
She didn't respond and just kept reading.
The server handed Emma her cup and turned up the volume on the television. The anchor began to speak. "All roadways and highways are now closed. People are asked to stay in place and do not venture out on the roadways. This closure will remain in effect till at least 7am tomorrow morning."
A lot of groans came from the patrons at the diner and a few scrambled out to leave and hopefully get home. Emma pulled out her cell phone to call Josephine and say she won't be able to make it.
"What?" She said shocked. "No bars?"
The server spoke again. "Alright due to the weather we are closing early everybody finish up and safe travels home. Pinewood Motel next door if you can't get home."
Emma knew that is where she was staying tonight whether she liked it or not. She hoped it would at least be clean. She bundled up, took her coffee and hurried out in the blizzard getting in her car and drove next door and parked in the motel parking lot. She hurried into the lobby where she recognized a few other patrons from the diner also getting rooms. After the other patrons left to go to their room she approached the front desk.
"I'd like a room please."
"You got a major credit card?" The manager asked her.
"Yes," Emma said and handed him her VISA card.
He swiped her card and Emma signed the card and he reached back handed her a key.
"Room 20 right at the end you girls enjoy yourselves. If you need anything, call, don't go out in this weather."
"Girls?" Emma asked, noticing she was alone. She then looked behind her and saw the short girl from the diner standing behind her. Her dark hair was covered with snow. "Oh no, we are not together, it is just me."
Emma was about to leave the lobby when she heard the manager speak.
