Holly's mind wandered as the lights dimmed and the silly, old timey "Let's all go to the lobby" song played on the movie screen. Her mind had been wandering more than usual lately. Her sexual frustrations were just adding to the dumpster fire.
For the past half year or so, Holly had been actively seeking a female friend with benefits...or a girlfriend...or something in between, whatever that would be called if there were a name for it. She wasn't really sure. It seemed she changed her mind every other day. Regardless, Holly had known she was bisexual for over half of her life. After a misunderstanding with one of her friends, she decided to finally take the plunge. Her kids were older, life was more manageable, and her newfound confidence from getting in shape didn't hurt either. She was ready to finally explore that side of herself and Holly's husband was more than open to the idea as well. It had always been an option. Trouble was, Holly was so picky about who she kept company with, she'd never come across the right woman to experiment with. She'd falsely thought that person was going to be her friend. But that was a whole other story. It was time to move on and be proactive.
Dating had never really been part of Holly's life, even when she was younger. There was no lead up. She just became someone's girlfriend because she was always friends with them first. She already knew them. There was no need for the awkward phase of dating. That said, she was quickly discovering the world of dating apps was wild...And sometimes disheartening. Luck finally found her, though, and she had been talking to several women more seriously over the past month or so. Still, things were wishy-washy. Women were like that. Sometimes she wouldn't hear from one for a week or more. One would message her a bunch one day, then she wouldn't hear from her for days either. They all supposedly wanted to meet, but that hadn't happened yet either. And Holly was growing increasingly frustrated about it. She hated to admit it, but sometimes when she was horny, it wasn't for her husband. She wanted,
needed
, to get "lady laid" before she exploded from sexual tension.
Holly's kids were already engrossed in the movie. She wasn't surprised her brain was running wild already. She'd seen Shrek 2 a thousand times. Of course, running into her daughter's troop leader didn't help either.
Adena was the newest object of Holly's desires. She was a little embarrassed about it. It was totally unexpected. She'd known her for nearly a year, and not even that well, and had never thought about her that way until recently. At the end of year bash for the troop, Holly caught herself stealing glances at Adena's chest. She'd secretly gotten a rush from Adena not only seeing her in her swimsuit when they ran into each other at the indoor pool one day, but when she had come out of the shower in just a towel too, walking within feet of her. Seeing her unexpectedly working behind the snack counter just now added fuel to the daydream fire that was already burning like an inferno with various people lately.
Adena's slight smile upon seeing them flashed in her mind. She wasn't overtly pretty, but there was something about her. Her sparkling blue eyes were captivating. Holly loved her hair too, so different from her own long, straight hair. She wondered what it would be like to run her fingers through her thick tangle of dark curls...Her phone buzzing in her purse snapped her away from her reverie. Holly looked at the time on the front screen before she swiped it open.
Jesus, how has it been 20 minutes already?
A text notification showed at the top. She pulled it down to see who it was from, slightly agitated. It seemed people only messaged her when she was actually doing something. It wasn't as if her life was super busy either.
Holly's breath caught in her throat when she saw who the message was from. And, she was pretty sure she stopped breathing altogether when she read the rest of it.
Adena: Meet me upstairs in the balcony. Please.
What in the actual fuck?
The absurd notion that Holly had willed this to happen on accident by her thoughts briefly crossed her mind. She had anxiety and overthought things a lot, so the ridiculous idea was nothing out of the ordinary. She read the words of the text over and over, beginning to panic. Holly knew she needed to answer, but wasn't sure what to do or say, she was thrown so off guard.
Holly: Which one?
Even she couldn't believe the words she was sending back. What did Adena want? Why meet upstairs? Why not out in the lobby if she needed to ask her something? Or just text it to her, for that matter. The whole thing was weird.
Adena: The one to the left if you're looking at the screen.
She couldn't help it. Holly glanced up and back toward the balcony in question, and could just make out Adena's face with the light from the screen, waving down at her.
How did she know where we were sitting? How long has she been watching me?
That thought was a little creepy. Still, although every nerve in her body was at nervous attention, her curiosity got the better of her. Holly didn't bother texting her back. After all, she could see her get up and exit towards the back. She was thankful her parents were there to keep an eye on the kids.
She felt like she was up to no good as she reached the stairway, which was blocked by a length of chain. Holly looked behind her to see if anyone else in the lobby was paying her any attention. They weren't. Quickly, she swung her leg over and tried desperately not to trip and fall as she swung the other over and scurried up the stairs.
"Why are you out of breath?" a slightly amused, melodic voice asked from the darkness when she reached the top.
"I feel like a criminal or something," Holly whispered, laughing at herself.
"Don't you ever do anything you know you shouldn't?"
She could barely make out Adena's face in the dark. It was more of what little light there was reflecting off of her glasses as she turned her head.
"'Rules are meant to be broken' is one of my favorite mottos," Holly retorted.
