PART II
Mandy stirred first, and her movements awoke Brooke. She turned and looked at the clock.
"Oh my gosh, Brooke, honey, wake up. It's almost 3 a.m.!"
Groggily, Brooke yawned and opened one eye.
"What?"
"Look at the time; it's almost 3 a.m."
"Omigosh, we better get going. I can't believe we slept so long."
"I can't believe we fucked so long."
The girls roused themselves, dressed, and set the room straight. They tossed their towels, wreaking with the scent of sex, into the bin.
In the parking lot, they stood near Mandy's car, holding hands and kissing one another again and again.
Mandy began nibbling on Brooke's ear.
"Gosh, Mandy, I'm getting horny again. If we keep-"
"Ohh, please."
"That's it for tonight. You were the best I ever had, but I have to be at work in a few hours. So I'm sorry, love, but good night."
"How are you going to work on so few hours' sleep?"
"I'll manage. I learned how to go with little sleep in college."
"Wow, you learn so many important things in school."
"Yeah, and I'll teach you some more. Say, do you want to go out Saturday night?"
"Sure, what do you want to do?"
"I'll think of something. Maybe go to the lake. There's a beautiful boardwalk and a lesbian bar there, where old dyke couples dance while ancient male alcoholics vie to buy them drinks."
"Wow, sounds like a five-star joint to me. Okay, count me in."
On Saturday night, the girls rolled to Windsor Lake. Mandy drove her Mini Coupe with the windows open and the stereo blasting Courtney Barnett. She wore denim cutoffs and a sleeveless tee-shirt with a pink heart emblazoned on the front. Brooke was dressed in a hot red mini skirt and white tank top tee. Brooke enjoyed looking at Mandy. The willowy brunette had captured Brooke's heart, and she couldn't take her eyes off of her.
They parked the car in a garage and took the elevator to the bottom floor. On the way to the boardwalk, they passed the handball court where athletic-looking guys whistled at the girls and tried to talk.
"We have dates waiting for us," they answered.
"Lucky guys."
"No, lucky girls," they answered with a giggle and left the guys gaping.
They tried to hold hands on the boardwalk but got too many looks from the Saturday night crowd.
"Do you want to check out that Lesbo bar?" asked Mandy.
"I guess so; we don't have much choice."
It looked different outside from what Brooke remembered. They walked in holding hands. A guy on stage was doing karaoke, and there were mixed couples scattered at the tables. Every head in the place turned to look at them. They realized it was no longer a lesbian joint and immediately let go of each other's hands and blushed.
"Oh well," shouted Brooke over the din.
"We're here. It doesn't look so bad. We just have to keep our hands off each other. Let's sit down and have a drink."
The guy on stage was singing "Summer of '69" to his date. Mandy ordered a Long Island Ice Tea, and Brooke had her usual vodka and cranberry juice.
The two sat side by side in their booth, and Mandy took advantage of the table to slide her hand up Brooke's leg and under Brooke's skirt, skating her way to the edge of her skinny thong.
"Stop it. I can't stand it."
"That's the idea."
"Why don't you go up and sing something? You're the musician here."
Mandy removed her hand and thought about it for a second.
"Okay," and she got up and walked to the stage, taking her place on the stool. She whispered something to the deejay.
He nodded, hitting a couple of buttons and a slow strumming guitar came over the speakers.
Well, I've listened to the words you lovers speak, the sound of the lover's song, and I've dreamed all the dreams that the wayward girl dreams, in a thousand places gone...All I ever wanted was to wander and be wooed like a Woman of the Phoenix.
Brooke stopped sipping her drink and couldn't take her eyes off of Mandy. She had to bite her lip to stop herself from tearing up. Brooke, who had wondered what she would do this summer, was falling head over heels for Mandy.
After the performance, Mandy returned to their table amidst scattered applause.
"So tell me, who is this Woman of the Phoenix?"
Mandy smiled and kissed Brooke on the cheek, "I'll give you one guess, lover."
The two girls looked at one another, and by silent consent, they paid for their drinks and rushed out the door. Then, holding hands, they ran to Mandy's fire red Coupe. Inside, they kissed and groped one another, desperate for release.
"Oh, I love those lips, Mandy."
"I love squeezing your tits, babe."
"Umm."
"Ahh, my sweetness."
Mandy struggled to get her hand beneath Brooke's short skirt and into her panties. Brooke thrust her hips forward for better contact, but the car was too small. Finally, in desperation, she tried humping Mandy's hand. Unbeknownst to either of them, Mandy's car was conspicuously bouncing up and down in the parking lot.
"Hey, what's going on in there?" They heard a couple of male voices standing not far from the car. Then, someone banged on the side of the vehicle.
The girls froze. Mandy quickly removed her hand between Brooke's thighs, and the two girls looked anxiously out the window. Standing several feet away, they recognized two guys from the bar.
"Holy shit, it's those two chicks we saw inside. Get a hotel, you two."
