"Sales are falling." The director declared. It had been predicted for weeks. Everyone had noticed that it was quieter in the stores.
Alisha and Riley, the western and central sales managers, sat opposite each other at the large wooden table. They frowned as they looked up at the large projection against the end wall of a PowerPoint presentation. The big red line from an Excel sheet showed the downward trend of the year-on-year sales.
It was difficult for the two of them to look sad. They were trying their best to do. They couldn't openly jump for joy. They had spent last night in the same hotel room under the same bed sheet.
On purpose. They had actively been looking forward to it.
Riley had picked Alisha up from the airport. Then she drove to the hotel. The two of them couldn't undress quickly enough as they left the hotel elevator on the third floor. Their jeans were off as the door shut. Alisha's room on the second wouldn't be used. But she checked in anyway.
They had ordered room service for dinner and breakfast. Neither of them was in a hurry or wanted to get dressed again until they had to.
They left it until the very last kiss and minute.
There they were looking at each other trying to be sad, making noises suitable for the unfortunate situation.
Under the table Alisha was slowly rubbing her stocking covered leg along Riley's.
Moving lower and lower.
As were the forecasts. Matthew was using his laser pointer focusing on the future. The opposite direction they needed to go.
"We need to turn this ship around, energize the team." The director boomed. As Alisha's shoe clipped Riley's.
They shared a knowing grin, then instantly frowned. Trying to be serious. They returned their focus to the screen.
"I will be looking to my team for suggestions." He asked just as Riley, whilst nodding at her boss, skillfully knocked off Alisha's shoe.
The group all looked at each other and nodded in agreement and made appreciative noises. Riley slipped her foot out of her own shoe.
"We will also have to cut costs." The silence flowed across space. "Our shareholders will demand it."
Riley stared on, as she placed her big toe on Alisha's.
