Solitary confinement lasted a month for Cami. She'd heard about it from other women prisoners, but she couldn't have imagined what it was like. While Cami was never the most talkative girl, she never realized how much she valued some companionship, some speaking. A little while in- she couldn't tell days and nights- she started talking to herself, sometimes singing, sometimes yelling, sometimes. She didn't know what she was saying half the time.
Of course, she thought about Sandy often. She never got to ask if she had been in solitary confinement previously. Was she doing well? What was she thinking? Was she thinking about her. Cami had nothing but time to think of her and her thoughts. Of course, Sandy was in her thoughts a lot when she played with herself. There wasn't much else to do...
One day, the door opened slowly, just a little bit. She couldn't see anyone.
"You are free to return to your cell." a voice said.
So she did. Finally, she saw other people. Cami was put back on a work schedule, but never with Sandy. She couldn't find her lover at all. This should have led to a lovely reunion, but the days went on and there was no sign of her.
One day, she ran across one of the female guards, Officer Jordan.
"Could I please ask about someone?" Cami said.
"You're Cami, aren't you? You probably want to know about Sandy then."
"Um, yes..."
"Oh, I know all about you two." Officer Jordan went on. Cami stayed silent, so she went on. "She wasn't alone in solitary confinement. I was with her a lot, perhaps for an hour, sometimes more. I'm sure you can guess what we were doing. You did all those things with her. An abuse of my position perhaps, but I don't really think anybody cares. Except perhaps, you."
