"Hello! How's your lovely bottom after that bump the other day?"
Carys cringed with embarrassment... "Of all the things I could have said! Oh, good grief...what an utter idiot!"
Alice spun round so fast that her big hat flew over the railings onto the sand, and her hair tangled and draped over her face for a moment. Her eyes flew wide in shock as she gasped: "You...it's you...it's really you!" For a moment, Carys thought that she had made the biggest mistake of her life, and visions of arrest and assault charges danced in front of her eyes. She had half extended her hand when she had spoken, and now started to drop her hand and step back when the tiny girl gasped: "No...no...don't go...please...
please!
" and grabbed at her outstretched hand.
The same electrifying jolt seemed to run up both their arms, and Alice squeaked and held on for dear life as Carys grunted: "Ooo...oof!" She detachedly noticed that the little redhead had stripes of green sunblock down her nose and across her cheekbones...at least someone had told her how best to combat the merciless summer sun. Her heart was hammering in her chest, and again, just like before, she was having difficulty breathing in anything more than gasps.
Alice was panting, her face was bright pink, and she shivered as she took Carys' free hand. "Ohgodohgodohgod! It
is
you...it's you...oh god...oh thank God!" Staring into Carys' bright blue eyes, which were shiny with tears, her lip trembled, and a tiny tear escaped from the corner and trickled down her cheek. "Oh...I thought...I would...never see you...again!"
She took a huge shuddering breath and controlled her breathing long enough to blurt out, "Hello! My...bottom's fine...thank you! My name is...Alice!"
"Hello...Alice. My...name's...Carys," the tall brunette panted, almost crushing Alice's hands in her own.
The two girls stood for an age, just gazing at each other, holding hands, drinking in every detail about the other. Silly Santa hat, long, beautiful, strokable red hair, blue, blue eyes, tiny red bikini, pretty black lacy long-sleeved shirt, sparkling sea-green eyes...
They must have stood there for nearly ten minutes, all the sounds of the busy beach blanked out as they concentrated greedily on each other. Neither said a word until Alice broke the silence, tremulously saying, "I think this is the bit in the movie where you kiss me..."
Carys' eyes flew wide in surprise. "Do you want me to?" she asked, her voice trembling. "If you don't," Alice gasped, "I'm going to have to climb up and kiss
you
, and I think that might take longer!"
Carys was shaking like a leaf as she bent forward and carefully kissed the little redhead full on the lips. Alice's arms snaked around her, and she was astonished at the strength the tiny girl put into the almost desperate hug as she enthusiastically returned the kiss. "Wow...again the electric shock treatment," thought Carys as their lips crushed together. She could feel her own desire rising, an almost desperate need to pick the tiny girl up and spirit her away somewhere, anywhere they could be alone.
"Whoo-hoo," Carys groaned, breaking away, "You are going to have to put me down, Alice. Any more, and I won't be held responsible for my actions...actions, I might say, which would probably get us both arrested!"
The redhead solemnly came down off her tiptoes and then giggled...Carys' heart did a double somersault... "Is there anything we can do that won't get us arrested?"
Carys' bright blue eyes sparkled with excitement as she grabbed Alice's hand again, the soft skin sending a tingle through her own body. "You look like you could use some Australian hospitality! Come on, we've got a barbecue and loads of beer! Some of my best friends are here, and there are big umbrellas to keep the sun off you!" She smiled at Alice, her full, glossy lips curving upwards.
As Alice allowed the tall brunette to lead her away, she suddenly realised her hat was on the beach just below the walkway. "Oh, wait, Carys!" the Scottish brogue that made her pronunciation of Carys' name into a low purr sent shivers up and down the tall girl's spine, "I need my hat or I'll get horrendous sunburn!" Refusing to let go of Carys' hand, Alice tried to reach under the railings to get hold of it, but it was well out of reach. Leaning further, still desperately clutching onto Carys' hand, she grabbed again and slipped. With a wail, she let go and plopped onto the sand a metre or so below. Now that the hat was within reach, she grabbed it and rammed it onto her head, glaring in mock rage at Carys, whose shoulders were shaking with laughter.
"Shutupshutup, you big Amazon, and help me back up! Ewww! I've got sand in my hair now!"
Still laughing, Carys vaulted athletically over the railings to drop down beside the still-seated redhead, whose eyes widened momentarily: "Carys, you need to be careful, you nearly fell out of that little scrap you call a bikini top!" and she continued in a much quieter voice, "and I really wouldn't have minded that!" and promptly blushed scarlet all the way to the roots of her hair. Carys gaped at her and slowly began to turn pink herself as she said, very softly, "I'm sure we can arrange that...if you'd like?"
Their eyes locked again, each of them recognising the desperate, aching need in the other. Carys gently touched Alice on the arm, and both girls jumped again as the electricity sparked. "Alice, let's just sit here for a moment and cool down. We can't go across there like this!"
"No," gasped Alice, breathing heavily, "you're right..." She shivered and put her small hand over Carys' big one. "Just talk about anything, anything at all, to send my mind down a different track!"
