When Chad picked her up the next morning, Paige slid over the middle console and planted a well-above-average morning kiss on his lips, "That was a 'thank you' for last night!"
"Loved it," he winked, "maybe we can do a follow-up this weekend?"
"Oh? Think you can keep up with me?" she teased.
"A little competition, huh? That might be fun!"
Upon waking thirty minutes before, Paige had been debating whether or not to bring up the conversation they had to have. She decided against it for the simple reason that it seemed like bad timing so early in the morning. They almost certainly would speak again that night, and she would definitely bring it up then. On top of that, Marie was convinced that Jason and Sara would be suggesting something beyond the closing on their new house, and it might be wise to first hear what they had to say. "Oh my God," she thought, "Marie was right, more complications!"
When she returned home, Paige helped her mother feed the little ones. While at the table, Jimmy felt the need to sing his ABC's while eating...the whole time! After the fifth chorus of "Tell me what you think of me?" Paige needed to distract him so she started tickling his armpits, "THIS is what I think of you!" That seemed to do the trick! Then of course, Jamie chimed in, "Tickle me, Tickle ME TOO!" The day was off to a funky start!
There were no appointments on the schedule, but she decided to go into the office and work for a couple hours before the lunch date. Tapping off a quick text to Marie, "What are you wearing today?" she stood in her closet for a good five minutes looking at her wardrobe and waiting for an answer. "Let's see, not TOO sexy but attractive." Finally Marie responded, "I brought a change of clothes to work, nice jeans and a polo." Paige picked out some form-fitting jeans, a sleeveless blouse, and some strappy sandals, good enough!
Arriving at the office Jimmy said, "Casual Friday, that's cool! You have anything on your to-do list today?"
"Yep, I have that lunch with the McCullers; we're going over some details before the closing."
"Like what?"
Paige blushed, she couldn't help it! "I don't know, they wanted to celebrate the deal we got them and ask a few questions."
Jimmy shrugged, "Okay, keep it all positive; this is our first house in that River Oaks neighborhood, right?"
Paige was about to say, "What could go wrong?" when a sinking thought occurred to her. What if Sara's "designs" were too-too designing, then what? She pushed that idea away and said to Jimmy, "You don't have a thing to worry about; you'll see!" He was going to answer when his phone rang, so he gave her a thumbs-up and picked up the call.
For the next hour Paige researched all the homes in the River Oaks subdivision that were for sale on the off-chance that Sara or Jason might ask. "Marie said they had a lot of connections," she told herself, "No such thing as 'too prepared!'"
It was 11:55 when she pulled into Mannino's parking lot and stepped out of her car. Deja vu! There was Marie right in front of her...like the same day they met, "Hey you! Isn't this great? Free lunch and the rest of the day off to get the weekend started!"
"Oh? You're taking the rest of the day off?"
"He told me I could; perhaps they don't want to confine this to a time-frame."
They walked in and found out Jason and Sara weren't there yet, so the hostess showed them to a booth in a corner. When they were seated, Paige questioned her, "You still think they have an ulterior motive, huh?"
"Of course! Why else would a swinging couple want to celebrate a 'closing?' Have you ever had a celebration for an announced closing before?"
"Uh, no...can't say I have."
"Exactly! My guess is they'll be discreet; they are exploring the possibilities. I'm actually looking forward to hearing what they have to say!"
"That's because you love thinking outside the sexual box!" Paige smirked.
Marie giggled, "I know! This is fun, don't you think?"
Paige smiled, but she studied her friend's face, "Yeah, I'm really curious in a good way, but promise me something?"
"Sure, I promise I won't commit to anything that comes up in this conversation!"
"How did you know I was going to say that?"
"Sweetie, I pushed too hard last Sunday, I won't do that again!"
Just as Paige was about to reply, the hostess walked up with the McCullers. "Hello, ladies! Sorry we're late, I couldn't get rid of a last second phone call," said Jason.
Paige put her hand on Marie's thigh, "Think nothing of it; this is such a treat! Marie was just telling me that you gave her the afternoon off!"
"With pay!" he replied, and they all laughed!
Marie looked at Sara, "Is he always doing thoughtful things like that for you too?"
"He can be pretty romantic when he wants to be," Sara said with a glancing smile at her husband, "and generous too!" which made them all laugh again!
Just then the server walked up and introduced herself, "Hi, I'm Allie, can I get you something to drink?"
Jason looked at them, "It isn't really a celebration without some alcohol, margaritas perhaps?"
"That sounds great!" said Marie; she looked at Allie, "Make mine frozen lime with salt." She looked back at Paige who nodded, "Make that two!"
" Perfect, make that four!" Jason echoed. When the young lady left he continued, "Let's check out the menu for when she comes back. Feel free, girls; I really am feeling 'generous' today!"
By the time Allie came back, they had picked out what they wanted, and Sara said, "So where will the closing be, Paige?"
"At the Hannigan office, we have a conference room; is 10:00 am okay?"
"It's on a Monday, Jason already decided to take that whole week off and get us moved in."
"Yes," he added, "we're guessing it'll take maybe four to six months to set things up the way we would like, but it's going to be a fun process, right dear?"
"Oh my goodness, yes!" she replied. "This has been in the planning stages for almost two years; now the fun really starts!"
Paige was looking right at Sara; there wasn't just a 'fun' look on her face, her eyes were shining with excitement. "Where are you two living now, Sara?"
"In a condo just north of Sangamon County Park; it's very nice, beautiful actually! We bought it seven years ago when we moved here, but a few years after that we felt it just wasn't meeting our needs anymore."
It was like Marie was reading her mind. Before Paige could think to ask, Marie piped up, "Oh yes, I was looking for a condo myself, but this person here talked me into a house down the block from her. But say, I have a ton of thoughts regarding your 'needs,' but before I ask some of them, let's get all of your questions about the closing out of the way first."
"Good idea," said Jason, "let's clear all that up before the food gets here."
