Stacy Madden was excited for her upcoming company training. She'd only been an employee at the company for a few months and was already selected for the two-week seminar. She had worked hard since being hired and tried to distinguish herself once the training discussion began. So, she had no concerns that she was selected based on merit.
But she also knew that Darrell almost certainly played a role also.
Darrell was a classmate of hers in college and she felt he had the hots for her. In the classes they shared, she always felt he was checking her out and, quite honestly, it made her feel good. However, she was happily married for six months to Tim, her college sweetheart, and had no reason to do anything but appreciate Darrell's routine looks. Plus, Darrell was Black. Stacy never really considered being with a Black man.
Darrell was a nephew of one of the higher-ups in the company and would also be attending the training with Stacy. Once he found out she would be joining him, Darrell was obviously excited, but it didn't come across in any time of sexual manner, primarily because Darrell kept talking about being able to see his uncle and how he wanted to introduce them. Darrell's uncle, Draymond, or Uncle Dray ran operations at the training location.
Tim knew Darrell from seeing him around campus when he was with Stacy, and he always felt a little uncomfortable since he saw the looks. So, he wasn't quite as excited that Darrell would be with her over the course of the training. Along with that, he knew Stacy had an outgoing personality and liked to have fun, and all that combined to make him a little queasy about her trip. But he couldn't deny it was a great opportunity for her and he had to let it go.
So, on Sunday, March 1
st
, 2020, Stacy was boarding a plane with Darrell and headed to the company training. She and Darrell were not seated near one another and didn't see each other until they landed. They met up at the baggage carousel.
As Stacy was approaching, she saw Darrell waiting for his bags while engaged with a friendly conversation with another young Black man. Both sets of eyes turned to watch as she walked up. She felt the flush of redness at their looks but smiled and greeted them both. Darrell introduced her to James who was also attending the training. James and Darrell clearly knew each other but he worked at a different location, so she had never met him.
All three of them were staying at the same hotel and each had a separate rental car which were soon following one another to the building. As they were checking in, both Darrell and James suggested going to get some food after they dropped off their bags and Stacy reluctantly agreed. She was hungry but felt a little awkward going out with the two men just because she wasn't sure how it would sit with Tim.
Both Darrell and James seemed to sense her reluctance and Darrell said, "Come on, Stacy. It's just some dinner. No harm in that between co-workers. Plus, you got to get to know my boy here.", giving James a subtle jab to the ribs.
Stacy smiled and knew she was being silly. They agreed to meet downstairs in about an hour to head out for food.
In her room, she called Tim to let him know she arrived safely and then they just made small talk before she hung up and then got herself cleaned up. On the elevator ride downstairs, she couldn't help but feel a bit of excitement at going out to dinner with two other men. She couldn't recall a time she was out with a man other that Tim since they had started dating, other than maybe her father.
Both Darrell and James were waiting on her and again she felt their eyes as she stepped off the elevator. Regardless of today's politically correct culture, it felt good to see the looks they gave her.
Darrell drove and picked Plaza Azteca since they knew there should be plenty of TVs on the wall to watch sports. Once inside, Stacy excused herself to go to the bathroom and came back to find that they had ordered a margarita for her and beers for themselves. The drinks arrived a moment after she sat down.
Stacy was a bit concerned as margaritas were a weakness of hers. Still, not wanting to be awkward, she accepted the kind gesture and the three of them had dinner.
It really was an insignificant event, but she did feel rather scandalous sitting there with two men other than her husband. Actually, a bit more than that as these were Black men. It seemed they were actually drawing a bit of attention, though that was probably all in her mind.
As dinner went by, Stacy was feeling good and enjoying the banter between Darrell and James, and also the break from the routine with Tim. The familiarity the two men shared served to quickly break the ice between everyone at the table and Stacy had a brief recollection of being back in college and just having fun.
