Severe Clear is what a day like today was called.
Clear blue skies with a wisp of clouds.
Life is great for me right now. I have a job I love with a major airline, as an aircraft dispatcher. And I had four days off.
I was enjoying a morning walk, when I saw a large inter office envelope containing papers on the ground. Opening it, I saw memos and what appeared to be patient records. I saw a letter with the name of MAGGIE HAYS, RN on it.
The records were from University Hospital. That was across town.
Well I had a new purpose for the day.
I'm Max Carter, and what's known as a little person. That is I am three and a half feet tall and perfectly proportioned.
I am twenty one, but look twelve.
To make things worse, I can't grow a beard or moustache to save my life.
As for meeting women, let's just say, climbing Mount Everest would be easier. Because Mount Everest does not have an "Oh Your So Cute!" barrier. Just extreme height, cold and a death zone.
I was off on a mission to find MAGGIE HAYS, RN.
I had my Black baseball cap and trusty worn gray jacket. "What could go wrong?", I thought.
I got to the University Hospital via the subway.
At the reception desk, I got a visitor pass. I was directed to the fifth floor ICU.
I approached the nurses station and looked up and said I was looking for Maggie Hays.
All the nurse at the desk saw was the top of my black baseball cap.
I noticed her ID badge badge said JOYCE CARSON, RN.
I heard the soft voice from behind me, as I admired the wall paintings.
I turned to see a tall black woman with her hair pulled back in a ponytail. She had sparkling brown eyes, and a warm smile. She had an athletic build.
I handed her the envelope. Explained where I found them, and introduced myself, extending a hand.
Turns out that we're neighbors. We lived in the same apartment building.
I smile and tip my hat to Maggie and JOYCE CARSON, RN. who has been watching the exchange between Maggie and I.
Then she asks my age.
I tell her I'm Twenty one.
Maggie gives me a doubtful look with the tilt of her head.
