Today was the day that I was going to marry Sandra. I was standing in front of a mirror in our apartment in my black and white suit. I made some final adjustments to my appearance and now I was ready to get going to the church.
Sandra had already been at the church for about an hour, she was getting dressed at there. As everyone knows it's custom for the groom not to see his bride until the wedding.
As I was driving over to the church I was beginning to get a bit nervous. I didn't have a best man, so Sandra had told me that she had arranged for someone to be my best man at the wedding.
But she hadn't told me who it was going to be.
As I approached the church I thought that, for someone that knew that their wife-to-be was going to sleep around with other men, black men, that they wouldn't marry that woman. But not me, I was really in love with Sandra and her in me, even though she had her needs.
I drove up to the church and got out of my car and walked inside. As I was walking up to the altar I looked around and nodded to all the people who were there for our wedding.
At the left front row sat Sandra's parents and their family. And at the right front row sat my sister and some of our relatives. My parents had past away ten years ago so they weren't there for obvious reasons.
The priest was standing at the altar, and I went up and stood on the right side in front of him.
I turned around again and smiled and nodded to Sandra's parents and to my sister.
As I stood there I was wondering about where my unknown best man was. Because he was rather crucial, due to the fact that Sandra had given our rings to whom ever she had picked to be my best man.
"Hello John." I then heard from behind me.
I turned around, and there stood one of my bosses from the company that I work for, along with another guy.
"Hello sir." I said.
My boss Darryl was this, 34 years old, 6 foot 4 tall dark black man. And I might as well tell you that I didn't really like Darryl very much. He had often made me work late at the office, but with no over time pay increase.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"Well Sandra asked if I could be your best man, and after some, uhm... persuasion from her side I said yes." My boss told me grinning at me.
"I see." I said knowing what kind of persuasion he meant.
"And I also brought a colleague from work. This is Sean." Darryl introduced Sean.
"Hi John, so you're the whipped one that Darryl has told me about." Sean said with a grin on his face.
"You don't mind having two best men, do you John?" Darryl asked me.
"I guess not." I answered as I looked down at the floor.
"So when is that delicious bride of yours that I've heard so much about coming out." Sean asked me.
Just as I was beginning to feel a bit humiliated by their talk, the music in the church changed and Sandra appeared at the back of the church.
Everyone turned around and watched Sandra as she walked up to the altar.
"Wow." I thought to myself as I looked at her.
Sandra looked absolutely gorgeous in her white wedding gown. Even though I had been together with Sandra for a few years now, seeing her like that made my heart begin to beat faster and faster.
I felt like the luckiest man alive, that beautiful woman was actually going to marry me.
"You look beautiful." I then told Sandra as she came up to me.
She gave me a big smile back.
Then we turned and faced the priest. He then started the ceremony.
Ten minutes later.
"Your rings." Said the priest.
I turned to Darryl and he handed me our rings.
We had written our own small vows.
"This ring represents my love and devotion to you." I said as I placed the ring on Sandra's finger.
"This ring represents my love for you." Sandra said as she placed the ring on my finger.
"Do you John take Sandra to be your wife?" The priest asked me.
"I do." I told him as I looked at Sandra.
"Do you Sandra take John to be your husband?" He then asked Sandra.
"I do." Sandra said.
"By that I pronounce you husband and wife."
We then reached over and kissed each other. Sandra gave me a long passionate kiss. It felt great, it had been a long time since Sandra gave me a kiss like that.
After that we rushed out and got into a limo that we drove around in for about a half an hour.
We had rented a restaurant at a large hotel to have our after ceremony gathering.
When Sandra and I got there, all of our family, relatives and friends were already there waiting for us.
Sandra's parents came up to us.
"That was a beautiful ceremony." Her mother said.
"We thought so." Sandra and I said.
Then my sister came over to us.
"Congratulations." She said.
"Thanks." We said.
Sandra's parents, my sister and we talked for a few minutes.
"We better go and cut the cake now." Sandra then said.
Sandra and I then walked over to the cake and we both held the knife as we cut the cake.
Everyone applauded.
Later when we had eaten and talked with more people, the band started playing music.
"Should we." I asked Sandra.
Sandra then took my hand and we got up on the floor and started slow dancing. Everyone watched us for the first dance, then other people got up and started dancing as well.
A few minutes later I felt a pat on my back.
