Chapter 14: Study Break
That evening, Alexis, Ty, Chris, and I were doing homework together in the dorm lounge, along with two other girls (Tanya and Kelly) and a guy (Ali) who lived in our hall. The three of them were in a class with Ty and all of them were working on a group project together. They labored busily on one side of the room, while the rest of us studied quietly on the other side. We had been diligently studious for over an hour straight when I felt my phone buzz. I almost ignored it because I was so engrossed in my book, but temptation got the better of me and I looked at the screen. It was a text from YasmÃn.
"We're outside your dorm. Come down." I put a bookmark in my book and closed it. When I looked up, Alexis's eyes were peering at me over her book. Her eyebrows were arched questioningly.
"Be right back," I whispered. Her head tilted to the side, silently asking the follow-up question. "YasmÃn." I answered. She lowered her book and made an 'O' shape with her mouth. Then she smiled, winked at me, and went back to reading.
I quickly trotted down the stairs and opened the door. Yasmin was standing there wearing high heels and a long coat, which was odd because it was a relatively warm evening.
"Layla! So nice to see you!" She grinned widely and opened her arms to hug me. As I stepped forward to hug her back, her coat opened and she wrapped it around me. As we hugged, I felt bare skin around her waist. We snuggled tightly for a moment, then, we pulled our heads back a little to face each other, still embracing. She puckered her lips and kissed me. "Lance is over there by the trees, waiting for us on the lawn. He sent me to retrieve you."
"Right now?"
"Yes. He said that he had a game for us to play."
"A game? Um, okay, I guess."
"What's the matter? You don't want to play with us?" She made an exaggerated pouty face. She looked irresistibly adorable. I gave her a quick kiss on the cheek to reassure her.
"No, it's not that. It's just that it's a school night and I'm studying upstairs with Alexis, Ty, and Chris, plus three other friends who you haven't met."
"I see," she said as she pondered the situation. "Lance told me to get you, and you know I can't say 'no' to him. I don't think you want to disappoint him either, right?" She looked at me.
"No, you're right, I don't."
"So, you'll come?" Her phone buzzed. She let go of me and stepped back. As she did so, before her coat swung closed, I saw that she was wearing only lacy lingerie and thigh-high stockings, but nothing else. I gasped and covered my mouth. "It's Lance. He wants to know why we are keeping him waiting."
"Ask him what I should say to the others."
She typed on her phone and waited for a response. Her phone buzzed and she grinned widely. She pulled me in for another hug, and whispered in my ear, "He says, 'if they're willing to play his game, the more the merrier.'" My heart started beating faster as I registered the meaning. I felt YasmÃn's hands slide down my back. She squeezed my ass with both hands and sang, "Hurry back!" Then she released me and walked through the dark courtyard toward the trees.
When I returned to the lounge, Alexis looked up. "Well?"
"She wants us to come downstairs."
"She does?"
I nodded.
"Now?"
I nodded again.
Chris overheard and looked up. "Who is she?"
"Well,
he
wants us to, actually."
"Huh? He or she?" asked Chris, puzzled. "Is someone confused about their preferred pronouns?"
"He told her, and she told me, that they both want us to come. So to speak." I smiled to myself at the double entendre.
"Who is us?" asked Alexis.
"Who's on first?" chimed in Ty.
"You know. Our
special
friends insist that we come downstairs immediately to play a game with them in the courtyard."
"I'm in!" Alexis clapped her book shut and jumped up. "Come on, babe," she said to Ty. "I don't know what game it is, but I'm sure you'll like it!" She did a little shimmy to entice her boyfriend.
"I don't know what's going on, but I can't say no to you when you put it like that." Ty stood up.
"Come on, Chris," I coaxed him by holding out my hand and batting my eyes at him. He sighed, took my hand, and stood up.
"I could use a study break too," said Ali. He stood up. Tanya and Kelly shrugged their shoulders and joined him. "What game are we playing?"
There was an awkward silence. Everyone looked at me. I turned to Ali, Tanya, and Kelly. "Um, I actually don't know what the game is, but knowing my friends, I suspect it might be something a little wild."
"Oooh. Sounds interesting. Are you going to do a reprisal of that performance you put on in your room the other week?" asked Ali.
"You saw that?" asked Alexis.
"Unfortunately, no. I wish I did. I sure heard about it though. Stupid me was at the library that night. I missed out that time, but if you're going to do it again, I'm not going to miss it this time! Why do you think I've been hanging around here so much lately?" He laughed.
"I saw it!" exclaimed Tanya. "That was quite a steamy show y'all put on!"
"I saw it too," said Kelly quietly.
"Wait," said Ty. "You said 'special friends'. What special friends?"
I hesitated. "Lance and YasmÃn," I finally answered. There was another awkward silence as those who knew them wondered about those who didn't. "Listen," I turned to the three people who didn't know them. "In all honesty, this game—whatever it is—might turn out to be a little bit more than risqué. He told us
all
to come play, but I don't think he knows about you three. You don't have to come if you don't want to. If you're at all uncomfortable with things potentially getting a little out of hand, you can just stay here."
"Are all of you going?" asked Kelly timidly. The four of us nodded. She looked at Tanya and Ali. "What about you? Are you guys going or staying?"
"I want to see!" enthused Ali.
"Part one was hot. I can't wait to watch the sequel," agreed Tanya.
"Okay, If you're all going then I'll come too," said Kelly shyly.
--..—
We found Lance and YasmÃn sitting on the grass behind some trees in the spacious quad, surrounded by dorms. "I see you brought some friends," Lance said, smiling as we approached. I made introductions and we joined them on the grass, sitting in a little circle. "I'm delighted that you will be joining us." Then he turned to look at me. "Layla, do your friends know what kinds of games I like to play?"
"I tried to warn them, but I think I may have been a little too vague."
"Well then, let me be clear." His voice lowered and he turned toward them. "I make the rules of the game, and I expect everyone to obey the rules." Kelly gulped at his serious tone. Ali shifted uncomfortably. "Tonight, we are playing poker." He pulled a deck of cards out of his pocket. "Strip poker. I'm the dealer. Everyone who loses a hand loses an article of clothing. Pairs of clothing, such as socks or shoes count as one article. Belts count as pants. Jewelry, hair ties, and the like don't count at all. There are four jokers in this deck. Jokers are wild. Very wild. Anyone who gets a joker not only wins the hand, they also get to tell one of the losers what to do. The losers must do it. I determine how many rounds we play. Once I deal you in, you must play until I decide that the game is over. You may not start and then decide to leave mid-way through the game. Now is your last chance to opt out. Who's in?"
"I am, sir," answered YasmÃn, followed by me, Alexis, Ty, and Chris. Then there was a pause.
"Can I just watch?" asked Ali.
"No. If you stay, you must play."
"You can watch me as you play," said YasmÃn coquettishly. "And I'll be watching you as I play."
