Chapter 11: The Gang's All Here
Alexis and Ty agreed to go on a double date with Chris and I. I was to meet them at Rendezvous
,
the bar next to From Famine to Feast, after I got off work. Alexis had told Ty about our workout at the gym and our other workout
after
the gym. He was a little jealous and felt somewhat left out, but he generally accepted what had happened. Part of what helped him deal with his feelings was seeing me be so excited about having a new crush. He was genuinely happy for me because aside from my adventures of the past few weeks, I hadn't been with anyone for the entire time we had known each other. Plus, my recent liaisons were more about fun and adventure than romance and love. I told them that I had quickly developed a bit of an infatuation with Chris, but I admitted that I didn't really know much about him other than how hot he was, so I was looking forward to our double date.
By the time I got to the bar, the three of them were already sitting at a booth with drinks. "I see you've already been introduced," I said as I slid in next to Chris. Greeting him was a little awkward because even though we had already had sex, we weren't really dating yet, so I didn't know if I should hug and kiss him, or fist bump him and call him 'bro.' I could tell that he was in a similar state of confusion about propriety as his hands moved around but ultimately settled in his lap without having touched me at all. I wound up lightly patting his shoulder and then put my hands in my own lap. We were both a lot shyer than we had been the last time we had seen each other. "So, what are you guys talking about?"
Ty answered, "Um, you, actually. Chris was just asking questions to get to know you better."
Alexis added, "It looked like he got to know her pretty well the other day!"
"Alexis! Stop it! Besides, you're one to talk," I reprimanded her as everyone laughed. "So, I guess their answers about me didn't scare you away yet?"
"Not at all. They said only good things about you. And I'm glad that I got a chance to meet your friends and get to know them a little too."
Just then, Desiré, the waitress, appeared with a Kahlúa and Crème and placed it in front of me. Nonchalantly, she said, "There you are, Layla," and walked off.
I was embarrassed. I didn't know what to say and the three of them just stared at me. Chris was the first one to speak. "Well, I've just learned something else about you. You must be a regular patron at this bar. Are you a heavy drinker?"
"No! And no! I'm not a regular, and I'm not much of a drinker."
"Then how did the waitress know not only your name, but also what drink you wanted before you even ordered it?"
"Good question," said Alexis laconically. I looked at her with a bit of panic in my eyes.
"Oh shit," I exclaimed. Ty, Alexis, and I all turned our heads at the same time and searched the room for Lance and Yasmín.
Chris looked around too. "What are you looking for?"
"Um," I stalled as I thought about how to explain myself. "Well, I have come here a few times recently—but only three, I swear—because it is near where I work. It's convenient. And it's a cool place too."
"The waitress knows you by sight and learned your drink after you've only been here three times?"
"Well, they were kind of memorable occasions, I guess." I looked down, feeling mortified.
"Why? What did you do? Dance on the tables?"
"No." I was starting to feel like I owed him an explanation.
"Oh, I think I know. Was it like when you were at the coffee shop?"
"No, well, yes, kind of. It was like that but different..." I trailed off, not sure of what to say. I looked at Alexis and Ty for help.
Alexis spoke up. "Things kind of got a little wild last time, but it wasn't really
that
bad."
Ty chimed in. "To be fair, it wasn't just Layla. We were in on it too." Chris looked at them, confused, and then looked at me, wondering what had happened.
"Okay, Chris, I'll tell you. I hope it doesn't frighten you away, but I'm going to be honest. Here's what happened. You may not believe it based on what you've seen of me so far, but prior to a few weeks ago, I was a pretty conservative person. I wasn't a prude; I'd been on a few dates before, but I really wasn't very experienced and had never done anything even remotely wild and crazy. They can back me up on this."
Chris looked at Alexis and Ty. They nodded their heads. "It's true," Alexis validated. "She wore granny panties and had never even held hands with a boy." She cracked a weak smile. Chris chuckled and returned his gaze to me.
I took a deep breath. "Then, a few weeks ago, a couple came into the restaurant for dinner, and... and well, they were really, I don't know, they were really flirtatious. I mean, they were beyond coquettish; they were powerfully erotic. Almost hypnotic. He made me want to do things that I wouldn't normally do. When I got off work, I ran into them outside and they invited me to join them in this bar. We had a few drinks." I pointed at my glass. "I wound up going home with them and spending the night. It was fun. It was really fun, actually, but it was more than that. It was revelatory. I know that sounds dramatic, but it was. It changed me. They know."
"It changed us too," chimed Alexis. "She came back to our room and told us about it. It turned us on and gave us ideas. And, well, one thing led to another, and we kind of got together." Alexis and Ty grinned shyly. "I mean, we're not like a committed throuple or anything like that. We're just friends."
"With benefits!" added Ty. We giggled. I was starting to feel a little lighter as my confession was lessening the burden of harboring such a big secret. I sipped my drink.
I continued. "So, by chance, the three of us ran into that same couple here at this bar again and we, uh, we did stuff here."
"All of you together? Here? In public?"
"Yes, but it was pretty discreet. I don't think anyone noticed. Well, except for the waitress. And maybe a few customers. But just a few!"
"I see. So, you have done stuff here a few times and caught the attention of the waitress and that's how she knows what you drink?"
"Exactly." We all took a drink, and then I continued. "Chris, I know you don't know me very well, and I would understand if you thought I was just a sleazy hoe and you didn't want anything to do with me..." Emotion welled up in my chest. Alexis reached across the table and held my hand. I took a deep breath. "But the truth is that if I hadn't met that couple, and experienced that profound transformation, I never would have done the things that led us to meet. I wasn't like that before, and without them, I never would have flashed you in the coffeeshop or hit on you in the gym. I'm glad I met them, and I'm glad that they affected me, because they led me to you." I paused and looked down. "Look Chris, I like you, and I hope you stay. But if you are freaked out and want to leave and never talk to me again, I'll understand." Tears welled up in my eyes.
There was an uncomfortable silence that seemed to last forever. I was on the verge of crying and my breathing was getting ragged. Finally, he spoke. "It's okay, Layla. I like you too." He put his arm around my shoulder. I buried my face in his shoulder and started weeping. Alexis pushed Ty out of the way, and scooted in next to me to give me a big hug.
When I recovered, I sat up straight. Alexis dabbed my face with a cocktail napkin. "Shush, babe. You're going to ruin your makeup if you keep crying." Satisfied that I was okay, she sat next to Ty again. He put his arm around her shoulders and she leaned into him.
"So, you're not going to run away from me because you think I'm a crazy slut?" I still needed to hear more reassurance.
"No," he said clearly. "I don't think that girls who experiment with sex are sluts. Or, if they are, I don't think that sluts are bad. In fact, I think just the opposite. I think it's good that young women—and men too, for that matter"—he glanced at Ty—"have as many adventures as they want—especially while they are young. People are sexual beings and we shouldn't judge each other for acting naturally and seeking fun."
"Cheers to that!" said Ty. We all clinked our glasses and swallowed a gulp of our drinks.
"Phew," I breathed. "I'm glad all that awkwardness is out of the way."
"Um, Layla," began Alexis cryptically, "the awkwardness isn't out of the way just yet..." She nodded her head toward the bar. Our eyes followed. There, sitting on stools facing us, were Lance and Yazmín, smiling broadly. Lance whispered something into Yazmín's ear. In response, she slowly separated her knees, causing her skirt to ride up her thighs, revealing her bright red panties to us.
