Cheerleader Lindsay seduces rival players
Lindsay rushed from the observatory at Baylor Tech to her next class. She was glad the back of the tiered lecture hall was sparsely occupied. Lindsay was taking a statistics course. The professor was discussing probability in the context of dependent and independent events.
"Now let's take a look at our school's football team as an example," Professor Koller declared. "Can someone tell us the team's record before this weekend?"
"They lost," a student near the front blurted.
"That is not what I asked," Professor Koller said sternly as she attempted to get her class to focus. "This is a gateway upper division course, let's focus." She paused for a moment to scan the room for a member of Baylor Tech's football team. "Those of you who have friends on the team, make it clear to them that a loss is no excuse to miss class."
Professor Koller's warning for the absent players brought a smile to Lindsay's face. Her grin even caught Professor Koller's eye. "Fortunately, I see we have a member of the cheerleading squad near the back of the class."
Lindsay cleared her throat as she watched half the class of a hundred students turn to look at her. "The team was undefeated, 6-0, before this weekend."
"How would you characterize the probability of them winning the game last week?" Professor Koller asked.
"Well, each game is an independent event in theory but there are factors that affect the expected outcome," Lindsay proclaimed. "A good record raises expectations, making a loss surprising and disappointing."
"Much like having a good student sitting in the back of the class," Professor Koller stated sharply. She was pleased with Lindsay's answer but wanted to make sure the class, as a whole, knew she didn't miss a detail. She knew who was attending and where they usually sat. "I am certainly not one to place bets, but you'll notice the reading for this week is about the misperception of momentum in sports."
While the class was awed by the timing of Professor Koller's predetermined reading list, Lindsay wanted to burst out laughing. If only her professor knew Lindsay had bet her ass on the game. She wondered how that analysis would go.
The next two weeks were fairly uneventful. After getting into a fight with Jake, Lindsay didn't stick around when cheerleading practice finished on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cheerleaders stopped going through their routines while the football players kept going through their drills.
"Hey, Lindsay," Stephanie called out. "Sorry, things didn't work out with Jake, but that doesn't mean you can't hang out with us. You're not leaving already, are you?"
"Thanks, Steph," Lindsay answered. She looked at the short, spunky blonde who was dating the quarterback, Brad. Lindsay smiled. Stephanie was sitting on a bench outside the locker room, watching the guys practice. Lindsay missed sitting on the bench, gossiping with Steph. She thought about sticking around for a bit, but then she saw the cowboy hat approaching from across the field. "I'd stay, but I don't really want to deal with Ms. You-know-who."
"Oh, Fiona," Stephanie uttered as she watched Lindsay point towards the sauntering cowboy hat. "Awkward."
"Yes," Lindsay sighed. "Call me and we'll hang out."
"Okay," Stephanie replied. She grinned, happy Lindsay was open to the idea of spending time together outside of practice.
Lindsay made her way to her Dodge Challenger in the parking lot. As she reached for her keys, she heard footsteps behind her.
"Lindsay, the cheerleader?" questioned a deep male voice.
Lindsay turned to see two neatly dressed men in their early thirties. "Yes, that's me," she answered while adjusting her Baylor Tech cheerleading top.
"Campus security. You'll need to come with us," one of the men declared.
"I've got a lot to do. What is all this about?" Lindsay asked, a sense of alarm rising in her voice.
"It shouldn't take long," one of the men offered. "The dean needs to speak with you."
"You guys don't look like security," Lindsay observed as she eyed the gentlemen.
One of the men flashed an official university ID. Lindsay shrugged her shoulders. The men agreed to let her put her bag in the trunk of her Dodge Challenger before escorting her to the Dean's office.
"Here's Lindsay," the campus security officer announced as he opened the Dean's office door.
Lindsay walked in and sat down in an open chair. The dean greeted her and pointed out two other men in the room. "This is Police Chief Conrad and you know Coach Aberdeen," Dean of Students Mr. Phillips began his introductions.
"Yes, I know Coach Aberdeen," Lindsay answered. She was worried and nervous. She wondered 'What the hell is going on? Why is the Police Chief here?' Lindsay squirmed in her seat. There was a long pause as the three men quietly took in the sight of the slightly flustered charismatic cheerleader.
"What's going on?" Lindsay asked, breaking the silent stares.
"Patience," Mr. Phillips uttered. "You'll find out soon."
Coach Aberdeen slid an empty chair from the side of the room so that it was next to Lindsay. "We are waiting for ..."
"Jake's here," the two campus security officers announced as they opened the office door. Jake walked in and sat down next to Lindsay.
Mr. Phillips waited for the two officers to leave before clearing his throat. "All right, you two. We have a situation on our hands."
Mr. Phillips went on to detail that he had learned about the wager Jake and Lindsay had arranged with the football players from Virginia University two weeks earlier. Police Chief Conrad outlined possible charges involved. Coach Aberdeen explained how their plan not only put the team at risk but it backfired, costing them the game.
Dean Phillips pointed out that doing what was best for Baylor Tech was of utmost importance. Jake was a valuable member of the team and Lindsay was a bright spot on the cheerleading squad. They were both being placed on a secret probation. Any further screwups would expel them from Baylor Tech.
Police Chief Conrad then directed Jake to go with the two campus security officers waiting outside the office. Conrad told Jake to return as soon as possible with the money from the wager.
"We admire your dedication to the team, don't we, gentlemen?" Coach Aberdeen announced once Jake had left the room. The Police Chief and Dean of Students both nodded.
"I was hoping to throw them off their game," Lindsay offered.
"Well, you put them on their game," Coach Aberdeen countered, his voice becoming agitated. "You gave them an incentive, not a distraction."
"And Jake being involved was a serious liability," Dean Phillips continued. "Player involvement in interference with another team could lead to a ban."
"The last thing I need right now is to have my star running back banned," Coach Aberdeen shouted.
"Let's not forget the legal consequences," Police Chief Conrad added.
"I guess we didn't realize all of that," Lindsay uttered, wiggling in her chair as she observed the intensity of their stares.
There was a knock at the door. The Police Chief stepped outside for a moment and returned, placing an envelope on the desk in front of Lindsay.
"The envelope is for you," Conrad declared. "It's the money your jerk of a boyfriend kept from you."
Lindsay picked up the envelope. "Oh, we broke up," Lindsay stated. "Jake's been seeing another girl."
"He wasn't jealous you met up with the players from Virginia University?" Dean Phillips asked as he moved his chair closer.
"Jealous?" Lindsay laughed. "Did you forget him telling you it was his idea in the first place?"
